W. Tom “Smoker” Smith, 83 of North Beach, MD died on January 5, 2015 in LaPlata, MD. He was born on September 4, 1931 in Campobello, SC to the late Milton and Florine Smith. He is also predeceased by his wife Gladys, brothers Guynell, Elbert and Harold. Smoker was a professional race car driver, promotor, bridge builder, and Estate Jewelry wholesaler with his wife Gladys “Just for the time of it”. He was an avid Redskins fan and is in the N.H.R.A. Hall of fame. He is survived by his children Michael Thomas Smith, Marian Janet Denton, James Robert Smith, Timothy William Smith, and Harold Guynell Smith. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday January 10, 2015 at the St. Paul’s Moravian Church, 8505 Heathermore Blvd., Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 from 11 AM until service time at 12 Noon. Interment will be held January 24, 2015 at 1 PM with his wife Gladys at Huntersville Baptist Church, 119 Old Statesville Rd., Huntersville, NC. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Huntersville Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association in honor of William T. and Gladys Smith.
