Cassandra Parran Briscoe, age 78, of St. Leonard, MD, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Sandra was born March 22, 1937 in Prince Frederick, MD to Benjamin and Cassandra Shannon Parran. She and her younger brother, Benjamin “Buddy” Parran, Jr., grew up on The Cage, a large tobacco and cattle farm in St. Leonard, MD. Sandra attended Calvert County Public Schools through tenth grade. She graduated from Stuart Hall School in Staunton, VA and attended Goucher College in Baltimore, MD. Sandra married James Thompson Briscoe on September 18, 1958 in Baltimore, MD. They treasured their 51 years of marriage together on his family farm, Stonesby, in St. Leonard, MD. When her husband injured his back and was unable to drive the tractor for extended periods of time, Sandra, a young mother at the time, assisted with the tilling of the land. Although she was used to farm life, that spring marked the beginning of her love of farming and working the land herself. A devoted mother and gifted homemaker, Sandra’s artistic and creative flair was evident in every aspect of her life. She was a beautiful seamstress, sewing everything from draperies to evening gowns.
