Melvin Joseph Kersey, Jr., 71 of LaPlata, MD passed away on August 21, 2015 at Mandrin Inpatient Care Center in Harwood, MD. Melvin was born in LaPlata, MD to the late Melvin Joseph Kersey, Sr. and the late Mary Rachel Kersey. Melvin is survived by his brother, Randy Kersey; daughter, Tara Rickett; and grandchildren, Cody Corbin, Ashley Rickett and Eric Foote. Melvin was in the U.S. Army from 1965-1969. He was employed as a Boiler Room Supervisor at the Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head, MD, where he retired. Melvin was also a member of the American Legion Post 82. Melvin enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the Washington Redskins. Family will receive friends at Sacred Heart Church, 201 St. Mary’s Ave., LaPlata, MD on Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 9:00 AM until time of Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM. Private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122.
