Sumie Metcalf, 81 of Lexington Park, MD died on November 1, 2015 at Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD surrounded by her loving family. Sumie was born August 15, 1934, in Japan. She was a dedicated wife of a career Marine and loving mother. She celebrated over 48 wonderful years of marriage with John Lewis Metcalf until his death in 2008. They travelled the world during his military career and in retirement they purchased a Recreational Vehicle to travel the country. She was an excellent cook and loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Sumie is survived by her children, Martin Lee Metcalf of Woodstock, VA and John Scott Metcalf (Tiffany) of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Samuel “Sam” Metcalf, Dominic “Nico” Metcalf, Zachary Metcalf; Kyle Metcalf, and Bailey Metcalf; sister, Shizue Yamane of Japan; and brother-in-law, Wendell D. Metcalf (Bonnie) of Great Mills, MD. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. All services will be private.
