Alfred Chavies, 79, of Dunkirk, MD passed away on September 10, 2016 in Washington, DC. He was born in Lumberton, NC to the late Bennie, Jr. and Agnes Emmanuel Chavies. He moved to the Baltimore area where he met and married Polly Justus. They were both in their mid teens and, as Polly said, they “did everything together” including raising three children and building a successful construction business. The couple made Dunkirk their home in 1960. Alfred began his career as a bricklayer and he continued to enjoy the building trade his entire life. He was a devoted Southern Baptist. In addition, his hobbies included riding bikes and motorcycles and landscaping. Alfred is survived by his wife of 62 years, Polly Chavies; son, Jackie Chavies of Lusby, MD and Rickie Chavies of Somerset, KY; daughter, Lisa Ann Turley and her husband, Dwight of Ashland, VA; brothers, Willie Chavies of Fayetteville, NC, James Chavies and his wife Geraldine of Florida and Dwight Chavies of Pensacola, FL; sisters, Martha Hammonds and RoseCooper, both of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
