Bernard Eugene “Smitty” Smith, 89 of Leonardtown, MD died peacefully January 1, 2014 at Hospice House in Callaway, MD. He was born January 21, 1924 in Martinsburg, PA to the late David Elvin Smith and Mary Blanche Ritchey Smith. Smitty graduated from Cove High School. He married his beloved wife, the late Pauline Rose Smith. They celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage prior to her death in 2005. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1949 to his honorable discharge in 1952. Upon his discharge, he began a long career in the dairy and paper industry. He was employed by Leonardtown Dairy as the dairy manager after moving from Altoona, PA, he later worked at Excello Corporation and Westvaco Corporation as an equipment technician. After his retirement, he worked for the Brinsfield Funeral Home for 10 years. He was an active member of St. Aloysius Church. His greatest joy was his family. He especially enjoyed watching his great grandchildren compete in sports and would frequently attend several games on the same day.
