Esther Olson Naylor, 91 of Westwood, Maryland died peacefully on January 26, 2014. She was born April 14, 1922 in Leeds, North Dakota. She was the 6th child and first daughter of Norwegian parents. At the start of World War II, she took the civil service exam and came to Washington, D.C. to work at the Coast Guard as part of the war effort. In 1948 she married G. Rodgers Naylor, Jr. and together they learned to fly—each obtaining private pilot’s licenses. In the early 1950s, they moved to the Naylor family farm in Westwood, Maryland where they raised three children. In 1987 she retired from 16 years as an administrator for George Washington University’s Romance Language Department. She loved the southern Maryland countryside and lived at the farm until 2009. She was an avid gardener, keen reader and intrepid traveler. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Ruth Dianne Naylor and Christopher Boddington; G. Rodgers and Ellen Naylor; and Debra Anne Naylor and Peter Boundy. She was predeceased by her husband, G. Rodgers Naylor, Jr., as well as her eight siblings.
