Martha Lucille Montgomery Mattingly went to her eternal rest Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at her home in Leonardtown with her beloved family at her side. Lucille was born on July 27, 1927 in Bryantown, Maryland to the late Steven L. Montgomery and the late Adele Burch Montgomery. She was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, attending Margaret Brent High School and later worked as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds outside her window at Cedar Lane and always had a pot of coffee ready to “catch up” with her family and friends. Lucille was proud of the fact that she had participated in a study at NIH, while receiving breast cancer treatment for the advancement of breast cancer. Thus the reason for her decision to donate her body back to science to close the circle. On April 1, 1945 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Compton, John Gibbons Mattingly and Martha Lucille Montgomery took their wedding vows and raised a family of five: Lynn Delahay (Ronnie), John, Jr. “Jocks” (Sandy), Pat Reckner (Marc), Zack and Marty (Patty).
