Robert Allen “Bobby” Dooley, Sr., 60, of Lexington Park, MD received his angel wings on January 14, 2017 at Prince Georges Hospital Center, with his loving family by his side. He was born on November 21, 1956 in Newport News, VA to Nettie MaDora Cooper, Dooley, McCall and the late William Eugene Dooley, Sr. Bobby married Brenda Lee Beining on September 10, 1977 in Great Mills, MD. Together they celebrated over 39 wonderful years of marriage. Bobby and Brenda have 2 children, Bobby and Ashley and 5 grandchildren. Bobby was a dedicated man, whom worked for DynCorp for 35+ years. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a dedicated Rams football fan since early childhood. In addition to his loving wife, Bobby is also survived by his son, Robert Allan “Bobby” Dooley, Jr. and his wife Ashley Michelle of Jacksonville, FL; his daughter, Ashley Nicole and husband Joseph “Andy” Foote of Great Mills, MD; his mother Nettie MaDora McCall, his brothers: William E. “Billy” & Cindy Dooley, Jr. of Lexington Park, MD, Ronald “Ronnie” T. Joan Janet Lloyd, 82, of Hollywood, MD (Formerly of Greenbelt, MD) died January 14, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 5, 1934 in Washington, D.C. to the late Maj. Robert Thompson (USAF) and Vivian Hildebrand Thompson. Her family was one of the original Greenbelt families, as she moved to Greenbelt in 1938. On February 7, 1954, Joan married her beloved husband, Harold E. Lloyd in Mount Rainer, MD. Together, they celebrated over 63 wonderful years of marriage. She was employed as a dedicated secretary for the State of Maryland for many years until her retirement. She was an avid reader, enjoyed completing the daily crossword puzzles and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful Afghans, some of which she won first place ribbons for at the St. Mary’s County Fair. She enjoyed travelling, especially to Florida to visit family. She and her husband took a month long trip across the country, ending at the Grand Canyon. Her family was her first priority and she loved spending her time with them, especially her grandchildren. Dwight Marshall Hurley, 91

Mr. Dwight Marshall Hurley, of Leonardtown, MD, died at home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the age of 91. Dwight was born in Waynesboro, VA, to parents Dwight Pennington Hurley and Ethel Francis (nee Marshall) Hurley, both of whom were teachers, on April 20, 1925. Dwight grew up in Charles Town, WV, where his father was principal of the high school. The family later moved to Rockville, MD, where Dwight graduated from high school. A WWII veteran, Dwight enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 10, 1943, serving as a medical corpsman until May 17, 1946, including on the U.S.S. Ballou, on which he circumnavigated the globe. Dwight married Esther Irene Kirkwood in 1951 and he enrolled in the University of Maryland, in College Park, where he obtained a degree in Education and, later, a Master’s Degree. Dwight and Esther were married for fifty years, until her death in 2001. He taught industrial arts in Prince George’s County until his retirement, after which he and Esther traveled extensively. Dwight was a skilled photographer and painter, and a prize-winning carver and wood-worker. His work was recently honored in a special exhibition at the Calvert Marine Museum. […]

Doris Elizabeth Gibbons, 86 of Charlotte Hall, MD passed away peacefully, on January 15, 2017, at Sagepoint Senior Living Center in LaPlata, MD. Doris was born on June 4, 1930 to the late Wilson Jameson and the late Mary Bernice Robey Jameson in LaPlata, MD. Doris and her husband, Cotton operated Carrico’s Tavern in Mechanicsville, MD. Doris worked as a waitress at the Chicken House, Modern, Black Steer and the Farmers Market Restaurants. She managed the Charlotte Hall Motel for many years. Doris was a dedicated worker, a friend to all and would always be there for anyone that needed her. Doris was a loving mother. She enjoyed family, especially babysitting her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband, Ollie Leroy “Cotton” Gibbons; daughter, Susan Elizabeth Gibbons; brothers, Edward Raymond Jameson and Francis “Mac” Jameson; and grand-daughter, Sheri Lynn Johnson. Ellen Ann Havens, 83, of Dameron, MD, died Monday, January 16th from complications of Alzheimers with her family by her side. Ellen was born on May 5, 1933 in Macon, Missouri, to the late Charles Albert Powell and Betty Moore McCutchan. She was the youngest of five children, all of whom are predeceased. Orphaned at 5, she was put through school by her “Old Maid Aunties,” two brothers and a sister fifteen years her senior. She attended classes in Macon and Columbia, Missouri, Fayetteville, Arkansas and Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia. After graduation Ellen began working as copy girl for the Evening Star newspaper in Washington D.C. where she met her future husband George Havens, a photo journalist. When George began working for the U.S. State Department Information Agency, the family began traveling the world. Ellen accompanied her husband to assignments in the Philippines, Laos, South Vietnam, Liberia, Tanzania, and Pakistan. Between assignments the family vacationed in Scotland, MD., falling in love with the area and purchasing a house in Dameron. Upon returning stateside, Ellen taught school in Waldorf. Mr. Ludano Lucarelli, of Pistoia, Italy, died peacefully in Maryland, in company of his wife, on Tuesday morning, January 17, 2017, at the age of 85. Ludano was born in Pistoia, to parents Dino Lucarelli and Fosca Bellieri Lucarelli, on June 29, 1931. Ludano grew up in Tuscany during Word War II and became enamored with the United States as he helped American soldiers avoid the dangers presented by the German occupation. He started reading books provided by these soldiers and quickly taught himself English. He was the first of his Family to graduate college, earning a degree in Geology from the University of Florence in 1955, where he met is wife Marisa Nocchi. Ludano became an expert in mining engineering, mineral and petroleum exploration, and aerial photo interpretation, therefore leading an adventurous life as he travelled all over the world. At one point he spoke 5 languages fluently. He became a US Citizen in 2010 and was very proud of that fact. He loved to cook, especially with porcini mushrooms, as he was an avid mushroom hunter. Doris Laroy Cousino, 86, of Hollywood, died on January 17, 2017 in Prince Frederick, MD. Doris was born on June 10, 1930 to the late Roy H Colleary and the late Oleta McDonald Wright. Preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Gerald Adrian Cousino, Doris is survived by her children, Gerald A. “Chip” Cousineau, Cynthia R. Robinson (David) and Craig S. Cousineau (Stacey). Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Gerald A. “Jay” Cousineau III, Danielle Cousineau, Scott Cousineau, Kristin Robinson, Andrew Robinson, Brandon Cousineau and Amanda Cousineau. Doris moved to Washington, D.C. as a young woman from a small town called Floralla, Alabama. It is here that she met her husband of 48 years, Jerry. Doris worked for her husband off and on for many years but her main career was a homemaker. She loved being a mom and spent her time raising her children while developing her own interests. Ed is survived by his children: Ed Johnson (Sue) of Mechanicsville, MD, Janice Johnson of Leonardtown, MD, Glenn Johnson of Woodbridge, VA, Step Daughter Yvonne Navalaney (Joe) of Owings, MD, Step son John Spalding (Kirsten) of Seattle, WA, granddaughter Sara and Step grandson Joe. Juanita “Leone” Linkous, 83 of Bushwood, MD passed away on January 14, 2017 at her residence. Born on March 25, 1933 at home in Canaan Valley, WV, she was the middle child of the late Dale and Martha Ault. She was the first of the girls to be delivered by a real doctor. Leone is preceded in death by her siblings: Eleanor Ruth Ault, Audrey Eileen Ault and Robert Ault. Leone’s early schooling was a 1 room school house and she attended high school in Davis, WV. She graduated 2nd in her class. After graduation she moved to D.C. and worked for the Government. Soon thereafter she married Darrel Lantz. Darrel was killed in a car accident and Leone continued to work for the Government. She said she got her job due to doing a crossword puzzle as she waited to be interviewed. Her boss saw her, and he was a puzzle doer as well and the job was hers. Time passed and Leone met a young Air Force guy named Ron Linkous. They married and were blessed with a son Mike. Unfortunately, Mike passed all too soon due to a hit and run accident, he was 7 years old. […]

David Vincent Wilkerson, 72, of Leonardtown, MD passed away January 17, 2017 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born February 13, 1944 in Delaware to the late Clarence and Ethel Sockriter Wilkerson. On March 3, 1973, he married his beloved wife, Elizabeth Wilkerson. Together they celebrated over 43 wonderful years of marriage. He was employed as a dedicated linemen with Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO). He enjoyed working on his antique cars, playing the guitar, going to the casino, playing keno, making his famous pancakes and drinking a cold diet Pepsi. His greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and St. Mary’s Rod and Classic. Thomas Ord Hunt, 76, of Lusby, MD passed away on Tuesday, January 17th at Calvert Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife Timmie, sons Art and Don, daughter Rhonda and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his son, Jeff. After proudly serving in the United States Navy, Tom went on to co-found Linemark Printing, Inc. of Landover, MD, where he worked until his retirement. Tom was a devoted and loving family man who will be deeply missed. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 10:15 a.m. at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery Chapel with inurnment to follow. Born September 12, 1957 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of John and Phyllis Wilkinson Joseph of Hollywood, Md. Johnny is survived by his parents, his siblings Mike Joseph of Suffolk, Va, Joe Joseph (Beth) of Hollywood, Md, Beth Walton (Doug) of Fairfax Station, Va, and Margie Gateau (Steve) of Lusby, Md, and his nieces and nephews Suzanne Garrison (Dustin), Alex and Anika Garrison, Joe Joe and Carlee Joseph, Joe, Katherine, and Anthony Walton, and Michelle and Amy Gateau, all who dearly loved their Uncle Johnny and his sense of humor. Johnny is well known for bringing joy and laughter to everyone’s lives right up until his passing. He graduated from Chopticon High School in 1975. He worked as General Manager for George W. Waters Trueman. Mary enjoyed artwork, painting, sewing, making clothes for her children and dolls, cooking and the beach. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved animals, dogs and cats. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Carson Harding Tevault; sister, Mary Helen Howington and grandson, Thomas Lee Tevault. Robert “Bob” Franklin Warren, Jr., 77, of Bryantown, MD passed away January 19, 2017 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Bob was born January 16, 1940 in Washington, DC; he was the son of the late Robert Franklin Warren Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth Frank Warren. Bob had a 35 year career in the Federal government; he was the Director of Administrative Operations for NASA prior to his retirement in 1993. He retired as a Major from the Army reserves after serving for 38 years. Bob is survived by his wife Pamela Warren of 52 years, daughters: Robin Warren (Glenn Frank) and Renée Stewart (Robert); Grandchildren: Jessica Mudd, Ashley Warren, Robert Stewart, Jr. (Dana), Samantha Stewart, and Crystal Stewart.
