Richard George McGaughey, age 57 of Chaptico, Maryland died March 2, 2017. Richard was an Auto Mechanic with Mr. Tire for 30 plus years and was of the Catholic faith. His life centered around being around his grandchildren. He was the son of Raymond McGaughey and Anna McMullen McGaughey. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Raymond McGaughey and his grandson, Jason. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Tina M. Burke McGaughey; his son, Gunnery Sgt. Richard McGaughey, USMC and wife Melissa; his daughters, Olivia McGaughey and Kendall McGaughey and fiancé, Fredric; his brothers, Roy McGaughey and wife Sandy, Regis McGaughey and wife Darlene, and Robert McGaughey and wife Marie; and his grandchildren, Neila, Raelynn, and Devin. Funeral services will be private. Interment at a late date in the family cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Memorials in Richard’s name are asked to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Veronica Gray, 86, of Marbury, MD passed away on February 28, 2017 at Southern Maryland Hospital. Mary was born on September 9, 1930 in Marbury, MD to James R. Gray, Sr. and MaryBelle Gray. She will now be reunited with her loving mother, father, brothers, James R. Gray, Jr. and Samuel A. Gray; sisters, Harryette C. Bush and Dorothy Faye Lemmon. She leaves behind her brothers, George Oliver Gray, Paul F. Gray, Sr. and C. Herbert Gray and her sisters, Sylvia A. Newman, Kathryn A. Welsh and Sharon Lee Rhodes. The family will receive friends at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church (30 Mattingly Ave., Indian Head, MD) on March 4, 2017 from 9AM to 11AM; where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11AM; Interment immediately following in St. Charles Glymont Cemetery. Blanche Mae Thompson of Huntingtown, MD, formerly of Upper Marlboro, MD, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Blanche was born on February 5, 1931, in Washington, DC, to Hazel (Osborne) and Howard Guthrie. She worked in the Prince George’s County Schools as a secretary / Media Aid for over 20 years. She loved gardening, traveling, painting, photography and spending time with her family. She was very passionate about her church – Seabrook and Prince Frederick Seventh Day Adventist. Thomas Hillary Dean, Jr. “Tommy”, 53, of Leonardtown, MD passed away on March 5, 2017 in Leonardtown, MD. Born on August 19, 1963 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Frances Cecilia Wible Dean and Thomas Hillary Dean, Sr. Tommy is survived by his friend/companion Helen Barnett of Leonardtown, MD. He was preceded in death by his sister Ella Mae Dean. He was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD. He graduated from Leonardtown High School in 1981, and earned an Associate’s Degree from the College of Southern Maryland. Tommy worked as a Project Manager for Calvert County Government and was a realtor for O’Brian Realty. Tommy was a member of the Hollywood Vol. Rescue Squad, Hollywood Moose Lodge, and enjoyed singing, traveling and spending time with friends. Born on August 5, 1942 in Bushwood, MD, he was the son of the late Mary Virginia Wathen Morgan and Lewis Francis Morgan. Bob was the loving husband of Virginia Ann Dingee Morgan, whom he married in Holy Angels Catholic Church Avenue, MD. He is survived by his sister in laws: Eleanora Morgan of Mechanicsville, MD, Lois Morgan of Mechanicsville, MD, Rose Nelson of Coltons Point, MD, and Debbie Dingee of Leonardtown, MD. Bruce Alan Stanley, 60, passed away suddenly at his home in Mechanicsville, MD on Saturday, March 4, 2017. He leaves behind his loving and caring wife of 36 years Kelly and two daughters Jessica Marie Wright, Paige Elizabeth Stanley and son-in-law Mike Wright all of Mechanicsville MD. Bruce has two wonderful grandsons, Corbin and Decklan Wright, whom he adored and treasured. He was preceded in death by his father Roland V. Stanley, sister-in-law Karen Goris and brother-in-law Tony Guido. The family who will greatly miss him consists of his mother, Florence Stanley, Colton’s Point, MD. Mary Ruth Horton, 78, of California, MD passed away March 5, 2017 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 31, 1939 in Yadkinville, N.C. to the late William Henry McCollum and Nelly Mildred Money. On December 23, 1962, Mary Ruth married her beloved husband, Oscar Bobby Horton at Yadkinville Baptist Church, North Carolina. Together they celebrated over 54 wonderful years of marriage. She began her career as a teacher at Great Mills High School in 1961 and then was a plank owner for Esperanza Middle School joining their staff at their opening in 1962. She left teaching to raise her children and enjoy her time with them. She returned to work at the Retired Senior Volunteer Program as a Director until her retirement on June 30, 2000. In retirement she remained a strong activist for senior citizens and was proactive in getting legislation and additional funding and services for many seniors, including Meals on Wheels, the Senior Tax Credit, and services through the Office on Aging and Transit services. Jennifer Lee Stokes, age 39 of La Plata, Maryland, died March 4, 2017. Jennifer was a graduate of Thomas Stone High School. She was an Inventory Specialist for Regis Inventory Specialists in Woodbridge, Virginia and was also a certified Nursing Assistant. She loved dogs, amusement parks, reading and spending time with her family, especially her children, Mikayla and Kevin. She was known as always helping others. She was the daughter of Mary Diane Gardiner. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her son, Kevin Sproesser; her daughter, Mikayla Sproesser; and her brother, John B. Gardiner. Victoria was a retired Administrative Assistant with the Veterans Administration, having served for 30 years from 1945-1975. She was the daughter of Tomaso Boni and Maria Gaetana Tasso Boni. Thelma Irene McConkey, 77 of Newburg, MD passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Genesis La Plata Center. Thelma was born on March 21, 1939 in Dade County, Florida. She was a self-employed florist. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all of her “little cherubs”. She was a kind hearted woman that wouldn’t turn anyone away saying “there is always room for one more potato in the pot”. She was a devoted and diehard Washington Redskins fan. She loved animals and enjoyed playing bingo and cooking for her family and friends and at church functions. She was a member of the Boulevard Heights Volunteer Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary. She always put family first and knew no stranger and had no enemies. The world has lost a real good woman and she will be forever missed by all who knew her. Clyde Cayce Forsee, age 79, of Bel Alton, MD, passed away on March 6, 2017. Mr. Forsee was born on November 16, 1937 in McEwen, TN to the late James and Rosetta Forsee. He grew up on the family farm with his 8 siblings where he learned a strong, disciplined work ethic. In 1956 Mr. Forsee moved to Maryland and began working at the Department of Agriculture. This is where he met his wife, Gloria. They were married on November 4, 1961. Mr. Forsee served in the United States Army and was stationed at the Pentagon from 1960-1965. After his discharge he and his wife moved to Bel Alton, MD and started their family. In 1966 Mr. Forsee began working at his in law’s restaurant, Twin Kiss Drive In. In 1971 he became the sole owner of the business. Although running the restaurant took many hours, Mr. Forsee enjoyed his place in the community and spending time with the teenagers who worked for him. Aileen Hutchins Matteson “Eileen”, 87, of Prince Frederick MD died peacefully with her family by her side on March 3, 2017 Cumming, GA. She was born Aileen Anna Hutchins on July 3, 1930, in Prince Frederick, MD, in Calvert County’s original Hospital on Church Street. Her mother, the late Hazel Wood Hutchins, and her father Maurice Hutchins where so very dear to her heart. In the 1940’s, her first job was as a cashier at Goldstein’s Department Store on Main Street in Prince Frederick, MD. This is where she met the love of her life Harold Matteson Jr. They were married in Prince Frederick, MD September 15, 1947. She graduated High School in Prince Frederick, MD in 1947. Also a graduate of Prince George’s County Community Hospital, where she received her license in 1969, to be a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Calvert Memorial Hospital. Anne I Gleason of Lusby, MD passed away peacefully Friday, March 3, 2017 at the age of 94. Anne was born October 3, 1922 to the late George and Rosa Vander Heyden of Faribault, MN. A graduate of Northfield High School she is preceded in death by her first husband Clyde Mitchell (1955), and her second husband Everett Gleason (1982). She is also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Anne enjoyed her Thursday luncheons with friends from Lusby and Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. A devout Catholic, she was active in church activities where she chaired the annual church bazaar, taught CCD, sewed, cleaned, and ironed linens for the church altar and robes for the altar servers. In addition she was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at church and performed volunteer work in the church office. For many years she spent her Wednesdays in a bible study group. She enjoyed sewing clothes which she would proudly wear, and making dolls and quilts for her grandchildren and other relatives. Samual Joel “Sam” Boerckel, 28, of Dunkirk passed away March 6, 2017. He was born February 23, 1989 in Clinton to Joseph Anthony and Paulette Jaye (Shontere) Boerckel. Sam was employed as a carpenter with South River Restoration. In his leisure time he enjoyed being outdoors, walking on the beach looking for shark teeth, fishing and crabbing. Paul “Petie” Warren Greenwell, Sr. of Lothian passed from this world at age 95 on Monday, March 6, 2017. Paul had a lifelong dedication to his Church, country, and family. He leaves behind his loving wife Frances to whom he was dedicated for 68 years, his son Paul Jr. and his wife Kelly of Fort Worth, Texas, his granddaughter Kate, her husband Brian Donnelly, and his great grandson Brendan Paul, all of Los Angeles, California. Although he passed away within a few miles of his birthplace, his experiences and travels allowed his life’s journey to leave the world a better place. Born at home in Lothian during the Knickerbocker Blizzard on January 8, 1922, he was a graduate of Southern High School at age 16. He worked on construction of the Pentagon before entering World War II with the 12th Armored Division Hellcats, 66th Armored Infantry Regiment, Company C, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He saw combat action at Herrlisheim (France) where 1700 of his Division were killed, fought at the Battle of the Bulge, and helped liberate several concentration camps. He was seriously wounded and awarded the Purple Heart in addition to numerous other commendations for outstanding courage […]

Charles Carl “Chuck” Moser, Jr., 59, of Deale passed away February 26, 2017 in Cocoa Beach, FL surrounded by his family. He was born July 7, 1957 in Washington, D.C. to Charles Carl, Sr. and Elsie Virginia (Landon) Moser. Chuck was raised in Calvert County and graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA. Following graduation, he was awarded a scholarship to New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM, where he spent one year before transferring to York College in York, PA. Chuck graduated from York College with an Associates of Arts Degree. Chuck was employed as a steamfitter with Local Union 602 and traveled around the world working on Navy Bases. He married Heather Brady in 1980 and they lived in Calvert County for a short period of time before moving to Orlando, FL. Chuck moved to Deale in the mid 80’s and in his leisure time he enjoyed being on the water and fishing. Richard Paul Miller, 69, of Churchton, MD passed away March 4, 2017 at University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Glen Burnie, MD. He was born February 25, 1948 in Washington, DC to Bernard William and Mary Elizabeth (Alwine) Miller. Richard was raised in Deale and graduated from Southern High School. He later attended the University of Maryland majoring in business until enlisting in the United States Navy October 12, 1970. He was discharged from active duty August 20, 1974 as an RM3 and continued with the Naval Reserve, until retiring July 31, 1994 as an RM1. Richard worked at NAVEMSCEN in Interservice Frequency Management until retiring in 2005. He was a member of My Fathers’ House Religious Community. In his leisure, Richard enjoyed baseball, fishing, Fourth of July fireworks and spending time with his family. He looked forward to visiting Williamsburg and Ocean City for vacations. Paul Michael Reid, 69, of Prince Frederick, Maryland passed away Thursday, December 23, 2016 at home under care of immediate family and hospice after a short fight against cancer. Born in Cheverly, Maryland on May 19, 1947, to Charles and Virginia Hazel Baker Reid, Paul started his career as a pressman at Stephenson in 1975 and retired from Master Print as a Production Manager in 2008. Paul and his wife Kathy raised their three children in Severna Park, MD where they lived happily for 25 years. In 2004 they built their dream home on 20 acres of beautiful land in Prince Frederick, MD. Paul was an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and nature. He also loved spending time with his family, friends and pets. He was always encouraging and supportive of his children’s activities. Paul was caring and generous, and we will genuinely treasure our memories of him. We will miss him greatly, but will keep him alive in our hearts. Shirley M. Hance, 87, of Prince Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully at Calvert Nursing Center on October 11, 2016. She was born on July 30, 1929 in Port Republic but moved with her family to Prince Frederick in 1946. Shirley was the fifth of six children born to Gourley and Daisy Hance and was the only girl. After graduating from Calvert County High School in 1947, Shirley went to work as a waitress at Rustic Farm Restaurant (now Adam’s). In 1955, she went to work as a cashier at the A&P grocery store and remained there until her retirement 30 years later. In her later years, she was a switchboard operator at Prince Frederick Motors and worked in that position for 15 years. Shirley loved working with the public and there was a time when she probably knew every family in the county. She always had a smile on her face and would inquire about them when they came through her line at the grocery store. Dora Wilbanks passed away on February 27, 2017 at Morningside House of St. Charles in Waldorf, MD at the age of 86. She was born in Lucama, NC on March 20, 1930 to Jeremiah and Emma West Bass. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, L. Wayne Wilbanks; infant daughter, Cindi Leigh; and sister, Betty Lou Meeks. Dora is survived by her daughter, Deborah Keane and her husband Bill of Waldorf and son, Stephen Wilbanks; granddaughter, Kelly Mills and her husband DJ of Waldorf; grandson, Christopher Keane and his wife Carly of Prince Frederick; great-grandchildren, Kristopher Keane, Kayla Mills, and Cole Keane. She is also survived by her siblings, Marion Jean (Bussy) of New York; Jerry Bass (Cathy) of North Carolina; Donna Sue Phillips (Willie) of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
