Thomas E. Hines III, 64, of Rose Haven Md., passed away at home from cancer on March 25, 2017. Born October 1, 1952 in Washington D.C, the eldest of 5 children, loving son of Thomas E. Hines Jr. (deceased) and Twila Mae Hines. Survived by his sisters Linda Carlson, Beverly Harris (Barry), brother David (Mary), loving companion Sherry Benson along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother James and brother in law, David Carlson. Tom was raised in Washington D.C. and P.G. County where he attended Oxon Hill High School and the University of Maryland. He was a member of the Catholic faith where he was an active altar boy who served through his teenage years. Through employment Tom relocated to Florida and later to Louisiana where he spent the next 25 years in leadership roles in the Tire Industry. After returning to Maryland in 2000, Tom worked on and off with his longtime friend of 50 years, Rick Fernandes. Retired for 2 years, Tom was enjoying life to the fullest, splitting his time here and with Sherry in Cincinnati. Charles William “Chuck” Schaefer, Jr., 91

Charles William “Chuck” Schaefer, Jr., 91, of North Beach passed away March 25, 2017 in Washington, D.C. He was born November 26, 1925 in New York City and was raised in Queens, later moving with his family to Virginia. He attended public schools and worked on the family farm and business, Schaefer’s Market. He entered the USMC February 23, 1944, serving during World War II until his discharge July 26, 1946 as a Corporal. Chuck married Virginia Lee Brady on February 20, 1958 and they lived in Virginia and North Beach, moving there permanently in 1958. He was employed as a warehouseman at the American Hospital Supply in Washington, D.C., and later as a security guard at Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant. He was also employed as a supervisor of contract janitorial workers at the Navy Research Lab in Chesapeake Beach. He was a member of North Beach Union Church and Bayside Baptist Church. In his leisure time Chuck enjoyed bowling, attending church activities and animals, especially his dogs Belle and Oliver. Joanne Marie Walton, 68, of Chesapeake Beach passed away March 24, 2017 in Annapolis. She was born December 4, 1948 in Washington, D.C., to Donald and Margaret (Lowe) Liming. Joanne was raised in Colmar Manor and Palmer Park, MD. She attended St. Margaret’s in Seat Pleasant and graduated from Suitland High School. She spent her summers in Florida and North Beach. Joanne married Mike Walton on March 29, 1965. She was employed as an office manager at L.E. Peabody and Associates, retiring in 2011. Born July 23, 1932 in Taylorsville, MD, he was the son of the late Urih Sylvester Warner and Marie Gertrude (Newsbaum) Warner. Albert is survived by his daughters, Joan Beltz of Lusby, MD and Sheila Sriro Ventura and her husband Serge of Homestead, FL; grandchildren, Gina Markovich and her husband Mark of Waldorf, MD, Tina Windsor and her husband Tommy of Waldorf, MD and seven other grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren. Mary E. Judge, 87, of Owings, MD on Thursday March 30, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Munster, PA a daughter of the late Jird I. and Alma (Behe) Stephens. She was the beloved wife of the late James L. Judge who passed in 2007. She worked as a Registered Nurse at DC General Hospital for thirty five years. After her retirement from DC General she then worked at Calvert Nursing Center for twenty five years.MAry was a very devout Catholic who loved serving her church. She also enjoyed playing BINGO, reading romance novels, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter; Mary Beth Jones, two grandsons; Nicholas James Jones(Danielle) and Mitchell Blake Jones(Alexa Torelli), and two great grandchildren; Colin James and Calla Therese.

John Gerald Burian, 60, of Waldorf, MD passed away on March 27, 2017 at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. Born in New York, NY on October 15, 1956 to John E. Burian and the late Blanche Berta Kuthan Burian, John is also survived by his wife, Loann J. VanBilliard Burian; daughters, Kara J. Burian and Sarah K. Burian; and sister, Susan B. Burian. John worked as a disaster management engineer at Michael Baker International, Home Depot (Waldorf) hardware department and Charles Co. Public Schools as a substitute teacher.  He was a member of International Plastic Modelers Society (IPMS) Northern Virginia.  John’s hobbies included constructing military aircraft, tank and boat models for which he won many awards at the Annual Charles Co. Fair.  John liked watching Jeopardy, It’s Academic and Sunday Morning News shows.  He also enjoyed hardy political and historical conversations, playing trivia and going to Grill No. 13 Game Night. Edward Daniel “Danny” Scanlon, Sr., 58, of Huntingtown passed away peacefully March 29, 2017 surrounded by family. He was born March 6, 1959 in Washington, DC to Thomas Joseph and Joan (Tavarozzo) Scanlon. Danny married Mary Lineberry on December 12, 1981. He was employed as a construction superintendent with various construction companies. Danny was a member of Huntingtown United Methodist Church. He enjoyed classic cars, his Harley Davidson, playing golf and spending time with his family. Danny was a loved husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He always saw the good in people and sought to draw it out. Danny will forever be cherished by his loving wife Mary Scanlon, children George Hilton and his wife Danielle of Dunkirk, Edward D. “Danny” Scanlon, Jr. and his wife Alanna of Prince Frederick, and Danielle Scanlon and her fiancée Michael Naples of Huntingtown. Father Fredrick Thomas Crowley, of Susquehanna, PA Father Thomas Crowley passed away after an extended illness at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. He was predeceased by his Parents Fredrick and Jane Crowley, and Brother Dick Crowley. Father Crowley was born in Susquehanna, PA and graduated from Laurel Hill Academy in 1968. Continuing his education at St. Bonaventure and Christ the King Seminary he was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in 1976 with the Archdiocese of Washington D.C.; for 41 years and held numerous assignments during his tenure there. Father Crowley’s last assignment was the St. Francis Xavier Parish, which is one of the oldest parishes in the original 13 colonies; he was under the direction of Cardinal His Eminence Donald Cardinal Wuerl. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Father Crowley is survived by his Sister Kay (Tom) Culnane, Susquehanna, PA; Nephew Chris (Danielle) Carpenter, Cary NC; Niece Lea Ann Stengel; Great nieces and nephews Kalei, Madison, Trey, Hudson and Cru. Debra Aline Ann Fox, 61, of Odenton passed away March 29, 2017 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was born October 4, 1955 in Annapolis to Edward and Joyce (Mulford) Taylor. Debbie was raised in Bowie and graduated from Bowie High School. She was employed as a key punch operator at Singer Link, and then Hechinger’s for 28 years working her way up to Director of Risk Management. She later worked at Home Depot as a Regional Safety Manager and most recently at the Whole Foods corporate office in Rockville. Debbie married George William Fox III on April 10, 1976 and they lived in Crofton until moving to Calvert County in 1985, and then to Odenton in August 2016. She enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling. She also loved plants, her German Shepherds and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Debbie is survived by her loving husband, George W. John was loved by many for his huge personality, infectious smile, and true heart. He brought so many laughter, excitement, and love. We were all blessed to have him in our lives. We will forever mourn the loss of his beautiful soul, but have peace knowing he is with the eternal Father, and we will one day be together again. Clifford Dennison, 79 of La Plata, Maryland, died March 29, 2017. Clifford was born on February 11, 1938 in Marion, Virginia. He married Reba on November 4, 1961. He was a retired Equipment Operator with Operating Engineers Local 77 (54 years). He loved being with family and friends, being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening and sharing what he grew, tractors, helping others, playing cards and going to Dover with his grandchildren. He also loved telling jokes but we hardly ever heard the punchline for his laughing. He was the son of William Clayton Dennison and Ollie May Brooks Dennison. Steven Andrew “Steve” Thorne, 65, of Hughesville, Maryland passed away on March 27, 2017 in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Steve was born in Bethesda to the late Charles L. Thorne II and the late Mary Raffo Gaudia. Steve is survived by his wife, Sandra, his brother, Charles L. “Joe Joe” Thorne III, his brother in law, Luke Brewer, many nieces and nephews and his best friend, Earl Goldsmith. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Francis B. “Frankie” Thorne and his sister, Maryann Brewer “Tootsie”. Steve enjoyed riding his Boss Hoss, farming and his animals – goats, horses, geese, cats and dogs. Dennis Wayne Austin, 62, of Mechanicsville, MD died on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. Born on August 9, 1954 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of Anna Mae Austin and the late Raymond E. Austin. He was a foreman for Steamfitters’ Local 602, retiring in 2009. Dennis was a perfectionist and able to do just about anything he set his mind to. He was active in the Mechanicsville Lions Club and chaired the annual Chicken Barbeque for many years. He enjoyed raising a garden, working on his home, traveling, tinkering in the barn, the company of family and friends and his big orange cat, Boots. Joseph Melvin “Joe” Blair, Sr., 82, of Bushwood, MD passed away on March 30, 2017 at Charlotte Hall Veteran’s Home. He was born on June 23, 1934 in River Springs, MD to the late Walter Rayner Blair and Mary Gladys Bailey Blair. He attended Holy Angels, Leonard Hall Naval Academy and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the Army Security Agency as a Military Policeman until his honorable discharge in 1957. He was employed by WR Blair, Inc., Monumental Life Insurance, FP Winner and Kronheim. James Daniel “Danny” Bell, 76 of Benedict, MD, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Hospice House of Charles County MD. Danny was born in Pisgah, MD and attended La Plata High School in La Plata, MD, where he played football, baseball, and basketball. Danny was a retired Iron Worker (32 years) and a life time member of the Ironworkers Local Union #5, Washington, DC. He enjoyed boating, crabbing, fishing, riding his golf cart, and watching Western movies. He was the son of Roger A. Bell and Dorothy King Bell. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother Lester (Buddy) Bell (Evelyn). Mary Esther Pilkerton Walter, 83, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2017 at home surrounded by her devoted family. She was born in Oxon Hill, Maryland on May 25, 1933 where she grew up with her beloved older sister, Gloria Pilkerton Madison and her parents Annie (Stone) and John Lloyd Pilkerton. In 1947, Mary met her true love, Millard A. Walter, Jr. and they just recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 24, 2017. Their marriage was filled with love, patience, kindness and commitment. Mary’s career in government began in 1952 as a secretary at Andrews Air Force Base. Then in 1963 she transferred to the Department of Health, Education & Welfare, finally retiring from the Social Security Administration in 1989. For over thirty years she resided in White Plains with her husband before moving to Florida year-round in 2007. Mary had a love for life. Rebecca “Becky” Alice Owen Edwards, 87, of St. Inigoes, MD formerly from Accokeek, MD passed away on March 20, 2017 in Clinton, MD. Born on April 25, 1929 in Halifax, County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Virginia Alice Irby Owen and George Edward Owen. Becky was the loving wife of the late Alvin Roy Edwards, whom she married on May 15, 1954 in Washington, DC, and who preceded her in death on August 1, 2005. Becky is survived by her children: Sharon Scott (Randy) of Charlotte Hall, MD, John Edwards (Angela) of St. Inigoes, MD, 8 grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughters: Karon Seaton, and Carol Correll.
