Matthew “Matt” Clark Cord, on July 8th, 2017; of King George, VA, departed this life. Beloved husband of Debbie Cooksey Cord; loving son of the late Mary E. and Robert J. Cord. Preceded in death by his siblings, Robert, Richard, Dennis, Stephen, Christopher, Teresa Cord-Gravino, and Colleen Cord; and step children, Stephanie and Patrick Cave. He is survived by his children, Robert “Bobby” Cord, Crystal Cord and step daughter, Ruby Cave; his siblings, Mark (Terri), Cindy Winning, Suzanne, Michael (Pat), Rena Judy, Henry (Elizabeth), and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Family will receive friends to celebrate Matt’s life on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road in Waldorf. A prayer service will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 6:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

William Donald Robinson, 82, a lifelong resident of Huntingtown passed away July 10, 2017 at the Burnett Calvert Hospice House in Prince Frederick, MD. Known as Donald, he was born March 5, 1935 in Hunting Creek to John William and Vivian Catherine (Stallings) Robinson. He was raised on the Robinson family farm and attended public school in Calvert County. He was a lifelong farmer primarily raising tobacco, and also was employed as a carpenter in residential and commercial construction, and was a construction superintendent at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. He married Frances Juanita Forrest on July 23, 1955 and they lived in Huntingtown on the Robinson farm, raising their family. Donald was a member of the Bay River Trap Club, and enjoyed deer and squirrel hunting, as well as trapping, gardening, and attending horse races with his wife. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a son William Donald Robinson, Jr., a brother Robert Robinson and a sister Shirley Zehner. Camille “Millie” Marie Gragan Norris, 78 of Hollywood, MD passed away on July 11, 2017 in Solomons, MD. Born July 24, 1938 in Chaptico, MD, she was the daughter of the late Anna Marie and James Walter Gragan. Millie was the loving wife of the late John Louis Norris, who she married on February 12, 1954 in Chaptico Church Chaptico, MD and whom preceded her in death on August 3, 2007. Millie is survived by her children: Judy Redmond of Leonardtown, MD, Louis Ronald Norris of Hollywood, MD, Jerry Norris of Hollywood, MD, George Redmond of Leonardtown, MD and Dee Dee Norris of Hollywood, MD, 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents Millie was preceded in death by her siblings; Bernadette Dingee, Elwood Gragan, Annabel Copsey, Dorothy Vallandingham, Lathan Gragan, Shirley Huntington and Nancy Miedzinski. Michael “Sean” Sepety, 46, of White Plains, Maryland, passed away on July 13, 2017. Sean was proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps and worked as a Security Technician for Protection 1. Sean enjoyed travel with his family, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys (especially against the Redskins), and spending time with his dogs, Luke and Leia. Sean was a caring and inspiring individual, who was beloved by all that met him. Sean is survived by his wife, Deborah Hill-Sepety; and his parents, Michael and Patricia Sepety. The Family will receive friends on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 9-11AM for a Memorial Gathering at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Tony Linassi, Jr. 61, of Mechanicsville, Md passed away at his residence July 13, 2017 with his loving family at his side. Tony was born on March 21, 1956 to the late Tony Linassi, Sr. and the late Louise Linassi in Washington, DC. Tony was a former St. Mary’s Pigskins football coach and former Hughesville baseball coach. After high school, Tony served in the U.S. Army. He was a Redskins fan and enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, coaching his kids and grandkids in multiple sports. In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by his son, Tony Linassi, III. Tony is survived by his loving wife, Susan “Micki” Linassi; son, John Linassi; daughter, Kim Tayman (Jimmy); brother, Tommy Linassi (Pam); sisters, Charlotte Sears (David), Connie Linassi. Nancy Peaper (Wayde), Susan Englehart (Gary); grandchildren, Trey Linassi, Tori Tayman, Jessica Tayman, Giovanni Linassi and many nieces and nephews. Robert C. Dement, Jr., 78

Robert C. Dement, Jr., 78, of Lexington Park, MD passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., with his loving family by his side. Born January 30, 1939, he was the eldest son of the late Robert C. Dement, Sr. and Margaret C. Jones Dement. Robert, “Bob” as he was known by many, moved with his family from Washington, D.C. to St. Mary’s County when he was two years old. He graduated from Great Mills High School in 1958. After high school, he dug artesian wells and oystered with his brother, Everett L. Dement, until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1962. While in the U. S. Army, he served two years stationed near Landshut, Germany as a tank driver for the 7th Army 3rd Armor Division, patrolling the border of Germany and Czechoslovakia. He returned home a 10-Point Veteran and began working for Stewart Petroleum. In October of 1965, he married the love of his life, Helen Katherine Holley. Together, they raised three children, Daniel, Diane and Michael. Robert and Helen opened and ran “Dement’s Bicycle Repair Shop” in the 70’s. LeRoy Willenborg, 81

LeRoy Willenborg, 81, of Lexington Park, MD passed away on July 12, 2017 at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, MD. He was born on August 7th, 1935 in Covington, KY to the late Bush Foley, and Odie Wall Willenborg. On February 16th, 1955 LeRoy enlisted in the United States Navy and served our country until being honorably discharged from active duty on February 13th, 1959 as an Aviation Technician Second Class. He flew with squadron VW-15, which patrolled the Early Warning Atlantic Barrier , from Argentia Newfoundland to the Azores during the early days of the Cold War. He stood watch as an Early Warning Radar Operator, monitoring the airspace for signs of Soviet aggression. During his service he earned the Navy Good Conduct Medal. On August 7th, 1957 he married his beloved wife, Vernie Evelyn Willenborg at the Hollywood United Methodist Church. Together they celebrated 55 wonderful years of marriage, until her passing in June, 2012. After departing the Navy LeRoy worked for a short period for Phil Gray, servicing pinball, and slot machines. Katharina Henrietta Scharfenstein, 87, of Hollywood, MD passed away on July 11, 2017 at Chesapeake Shores Nursing Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 8, 1930 in Kirchen, Germany to the late Philip Rau and Elisabeth Wilde. Katharina was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She spent many hours helping her husband with his cabinetry business. She was a beautiful seamstress and made many beautiful dresses for her daughter and granddaughters. She had a great passion for knitting. She enjoyed listening to classical music and was a talented home cook and baker. She was known for her delicious German cakes. Spending time with her family was her greatest love. Katharina is survived by her daughter, Karin Elisabeth Paz and her husband, Marco; her grandchildren: Teresa Paz, Sabrina Paz, and Alejandro Paz; and her extended family and friends. James Milford Farrell, Jr., 76, of Waldorf, MD passed away on July 15, 2017 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD. He was born on March 6, 1941 in Southern Maryland to the late James Milford and Ruby Farrell, Sr. James was a self-employed painter. He was a loving husband, Father and grandfather. He was a great friend to many. He was a member of the Upper Marlboro Moose Lodge and The Sons of the American Legion. He was a fan of Elvis Presley, Nascar, especially #24 Jeff Gordon and the Dallas Cowboys. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by two sisters; Patricia Moore and Jean Cooter and one brother Sammy Truitt. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Wanda Ray (Smith) Farrell, five children; Terry (Kevin) Baker, James Farrell III, Pamela Farrell, Thomas (Ann) Farrell and Lisa Farrell, eight grandchildren; Racheal, Heather, Brittney, Jessica, Thomas, Christina, Jenna and Hailey, two great-grandchildren; Jade and Kamryn and sisters; Marie Lloyd and Rosalie Dawson.

Christine Bunt Pope, 85, of Mechanicsville, MD, died on July 12, 2017. Christine was a self-employed caregiver for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Elks Lodge in Deale, MD. She enjoyed creating floral arrangements, going to the beach, and visiting Dover Downs. She was daughter of the late Almos Bunt and the late Fannie Cox Bunt. In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Pope; and one son, Talmidge Daniel. Christine was survived by one son, Robert A. Pizza; one daughter, Gloria McCauley and her husband Darren; one brother, J.L. Bunt; one sister, Hazel Buchholz; five grandchildren, John, Bobby, Sean, Roland, and Bobby; and six great-grandchildren. Gordon Thurston, age 82, of La Plata, MD, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 in La Plata, MD. Gordon was born on January 10, 1935 was was the son of the late Bill and Lottie Thurston. He was preceded in death by his son, Gordon Lee Thurston; and five brothers and sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his four daughters, Virginia Poe and her husband Randy, Barbara Thurston, Lottie Gray and her husband Steve, and Susan Thurston; one sister, Grace Haden; four grandchildren, Tina Gleason and her husband John, Chrissy Poe, Courtney Samuelson and her husband Bryan, and Tyler Gray; and two great-grandchildren, Brittney and Austin Gleason. Gordon also leaves behind his companion of 35 years, Francis Windsor and his ex-wife Shirley (Thurston) Vermillion. Gordon will be remembered for his love of fishing, traveling, and the Redskins. She became her mommy’s forever angel just a few short days later on Monday July 10, 2017 at 12:15 pm at Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC. Iyla Rae is survived by a large loving family including her mother Catori Doukas, Grandparents Tina and James Doukas of Charlotte Hall, MD and Marvin Austin of West Virginia; Proud Uncle Jimmy Doukas of Charlotte Hall, MD; Great Grandparents Samuel and Patricia Hart of Krebs, OK and Dottie Doukas-Cooper and Norman Cooper of Culpepper, VA. Evelia Aidee Basconnet, 83, of Waldorf, MD, died July 10, 2017. Evelia was an Elementary School Teacher in Argentina for 15 years before moving to the United States. She was of the Catholic faith. She was daughter of the late Amado Basconnet and the late Blanca Rivarola Basconnet. In addition to her parents, Evelia was preceded in deth by her son, Marcelo Cabos. Evelia is survived by her two daughters, Sylvia Cabos-Rife and her husband Edgardo, and Claudia Lee and her husband Gregory; one sister, Blanca Tiemroth; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Rodrigo, Estefania, and Lucas; and three great-grandchildren, Facundo, Maximo, and Augusto.

She is preceded in death by her son, Chuckie Riley, and survived by her children, Connie Singer, Tina Murphy, Jessica Mongell, Mary Hensley, Jeannie Riley, Annie Riley, and TC Sapp. A private spreading of her ashes will be followed by a celebration of her life with family and friends at 1 Cheat Street, Point Marion, PA from 1-5pm.

Mary Evelyn White, 89 of Upper Marlboro/Clinton, Md. passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Born in Piscataway, Md. to Mary Myrtle (Tayman) White and Benjamin Edward White. Loving sister of Margaret T. White of Upper Marlboro, Md. and Francis White and his wife Pat of Crofton, Md; Dear Aunt of Debbie Thorne, Diane Cook, Jackie White and Jamie White. Mary graduated from Surrattsville High School in 1945 and then began her career at Clinton Bank. She retired from banking after 35 years of service. She served as Prefect of the Sodality at St. Mary’s of Piscataway Catholic Church and later became a secretary at their school. She is remembered by many as a very kind and gently lady.

John Robert Mumaw of St. Leonard, MD, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 122, 2017, at the age of 75. He was born in Cheverly, MD, on September 12, 1941, to Rose and John Mumaw. John was a police officer for P. G. County, retiring in 1984 as a corporal. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #89 in Upper Marlboro, MD. John was a lifetime fisherman who loved being on the water. He loved computers, sports, especially the Washington Redskins and the Nationals. From a young age, he loved baseball, eventually receiving a scholarship offer from Georgetown University. He also enjoyed going to the beach, driving corvettes and he loved dogs. John was the loving father of the late Vicki Mumaw, He was the uncle of Alayne Thorpe, Debbie Himmelreich, David Thorpe and Chris Thorpe. He is also survived by his cousin Kay Gariglio and many other family and friends. Family invites friends to Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736, on Monday, July 17 from 2 pm until start of Memorial Services at 4 pm. Inurnment will be private.

Born on October 26, 1944 in Washington, DC to the late Joseph Carter Kimble and the late Anna Grant Kimble, Betty Jo is also preceded in death by her sisters, Patsy Ann Kimble Qureshi and Gloria Jean Kimble. She leaves behind her husband of 32 years, James “Spider” L. Saunders, Jr.; sons, Charles Ray Turner, Richard Wayne Turner and James L. Saunders, III; daughters, Kelly Jo Talton Baker and Tanya Talton Ferris; brothers, Joseph Kimble and Larry Robey; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Betty Jo graduated from Gwynn Park High School and the College of Southern Maryland. In 1979 she married Spider. Together they raised a family while residing in Hughesville and Park Hall, MD prior to moving to Cobb Island where they owned and operated Saunders Marina. Joseph “Anthony” Lang, 73, of California, MD, passed away Friday July 14, 2017 in Baltimore Shock Trauma Center. Anthony was born March 11, 1944 in Leonardtown, Maryland to Paul Frank and Agnes Wheeler Lang of Great Mills, MD. He grew up in Great Mills and graduated Ryken High School in 1961. On June 27, 1964 he married Elaine Yeatman at Holy Face Church in Great Mills. They shared 53 years together. Anthony enjoyed being on the water, fishing and crabbing, as well as watching the Orioles play ball, and spending time with his family. Anthony was preceded in death by his father Frank Lang. Daughter of the late Robert Burns and the late Shirley Lewis Burns. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gerald “Jerry” Bennett; two sons, Gerald Bennett, Jr. and wife Angela, and Timothy Bennett and wife Melissa; one daughter, Cynthia Rhinehart and husband Richard; two brothers, Harry Burns, and Wesley Burns and his wife Kathy; four sisters, Patricia McDermott and husband George, Sharon Tayman, Kathy Burns-Kobel and husband Kevin, and Deborah Tarbox and husband Bernie.
