Blair Lindsey Boyd, 33, of Indian Head, Maryland, died on December 26, 2017 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata. Born on April 19, 1984 in La Plata, Maryland, she is the daughter of Theresa Ann and Timothy J. Boyd Sr. Blair was a graduate of Lackey High School, Class of 2002. While at Lackey, she played softball, volleyball and Little League Softball. She was a Medical Receptionist working for Health Partners, Charles Regional Medical Center and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital and would volunteer, assisting people with their health care concerns. She had a big heart and enjoyed helping people. Blair was an avid fan of the Washington Nationals and the Washington Redskins. She loved spending time with her nieces, nephews and her dog Pooh. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Janice and John “Jake” Boudreaux and her paternal grandparents, James Mansfield Boyd, Elizabeth Adams Wroble and Stanley Wroble. William Thomas “Tommy” Dorsey III, 43, of Owings passed away December 18, 2017. He was born May 18, 1974 in Prince Frederick to William Thomas, Jr. and Sheryl Ann (Lillemon) Dorsey. Tommy was raised in Calvert County and graduated from Calvert High School in 1992. He was employed as a carpenter in residential and commercial construction He also worked as a commercial crabbing and fishing waterman with Bobby Abner. He was an accomplished softball player and also enjoyed playing cards, raising his dogs and spending time with family and friends. Tommy was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother Sheryl A. Dorsey of Huntingtown, his sister Kristi M. Cawley and husband Bo of Huntingtown, grandmother Alverta Johnson of Prince Frederick, the love of his life, Tammy L. Abner of Owings, stepdaughter Brittney M. Anthony Joseph “Tony” Cusato, 69

Anthony Joseph “Tony” Cusato, 69, of Lothian passed away December 19, 2017. He was born April 10, 1948 in Washington, D.C. to Joseph John and Frances Elnora (Tolson) Cusato. He was raised in D.C and graduated from St. John the Assumption High School. Tony enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 12, 1967 and was honorably discharged March 23, 1971. While in the Navy, he served in Vietnam on the USS Enterprise. Tony was employed as a crew supervisor with Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation for 47 years. He married Brenda Lee Farrall on October 16, 1978 and they lived in Harwood before moving to Lothian in 1991. When his kids were younger, he coached little league baseball. Tony enjoyed hunting and collecting “stuff”, working at the produce stand at Wayson’s Corner and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Harold S. Cardwell 1/9/1940 – 12/17/17 Born in Cincinnati, OH in January 1940 to Arthur and Harriett (Jones) Cardwell, Harold spent his formative years in Buffalo, NY where he graduated high school. He began his career as a professional musician playing drums at the age of 15. He later attended Youngstown University Dana School of Music in Youngstown, OH. His musical career took him throughout the Unites States and Canada. Harold was given the moniker “Mad” Harold (which stood for Master at Drumming) by fellow drummer “Sticks” Hooper. He was a gifted percussionist who played not only drums but also congas, marimba, and even occasionally the vibes. He was passionate about music and especially jazz. During his career, he played with a number of well-known jazz musicians including JJ Johnson; Slide Hampton; Eddie Harris; Lou Donaldson; David Young; Steve Allee; Lori Meacham; Melvin Rhyne; Dr. David Baker; Steve Rudolph; his cousin Grover Washington, Jr; and long-time friend from high school, Dr. Lonnie Smith. Jonathan Lee Fuller, 71

Jonathan Lee Fuller, 71, of Newburg, MD passed away at his home on December 18, 2017. Jonathan was born in Georgia on November 7, 1946 to Thelma and the late Carl Fuller. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Carl Fuller, Jr. and Buddy Fuller; and sisters, Bonnie Woodrum and Frances Gass. Jonathan is survived by his wife, Alma Fuller; son, James Kilinski; daughter, Kimberly Foley; sisters, Mary Purvis and Linda Barber; and grandchildren, Madelin, Alexis and James Christopher, Jr. Jonathan was a Maryland State Trooper. He also worked security at Dahlgren NSWC and later became a locksmith. Jonathan enjoyed woodworking and calligraphy and was a good guitar player. He was also good with his hands and could fix just about anything. A Private Funeral Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, Chaptico, MD.

Lyle Bercier, 95, of LaPlata, MD passed away on December 19, 2017 at the University of MD Charles Regional Medical Center. Born in St. John, ND on June 8, 1922 to the late Jerome and Hannah Bercier, Lyle is also preceded in death by his sons, Richard and William Bercier. Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Betty; son, Robert Bercier (Susan); daughter, Linda Kirkwood (Mark); grandchildren, Randall Bercier(Amy), Jaime Bercier, Jennifer Kehres(John), Krystal Anderson(Michael); great-grandchildren, Marissa, Austin, Collin, Kensington, Caleb and Jacoby; sisters, Jean Stewart, Maxine Richards, Loretta James and all of his North Dakota family. Lyle was a veteran of the US Navy and served in WWII where he was one of 18 sailors on the USS Quail who heroically escaped from Corregidor to Darwin, Australia as told in a book entitled South from Corregidor by John Morrill. Lyle retired from the US Dept. of Navy as an aerospace engineer. Irmgard W. Kratz, 89, of Owings, MD passed away December 22, 2017. She was born April 23, 1928 in Frankfurt, Germany to Maximillian and Greta (Berkard) Kirchhof. She married William S. Kratz June 23, 1947. Irmgard was a teller with Maryland National Bank and later Bank of America retiring after 35 years. She was an active member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, knitting prayer shawls for hospice, cooking and baking. Irmgard was an avid reader and devoted grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, sons Richard W., William S. III and Michael A. Kratz and brother Maximillian Kirchhof. Surviving are five grandchildren Michelle Allison and her husband James of Charlotte, NC, Richard Kratz and his wife Jenn of North Beach, MD, Caitlin Ketcher and her husband Joshua of Chesapeake, VA, Margaret Clothier and her husband Brian of Chestertown, MD and Adam Kratz of North Beach, MD. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren Chase, Morgan, AJ, Aubree, Nicholas, Calvin and Harry.

Maurice Carr Parks, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend to many, passed away December 26, 2017 at the age of 86. He was born December 23, 1931 to Dorothy Delma (Rodgers) and Maurice C. Parks, Sr. He was raised in south Anne Arundel County, attended Tracey’s Elementary and graduated from Southern High School in 1950. He married Peggy Ann Leatherbury on August 12, 1950, and they lived in Lothian where they raised their family. Maurice was a lifelong farmer and carpenter and was employed by Hopkins and Wayson Construction Company for over thirty years. He managed H & W softball team for many years, and loved playing, coaching and watching sports. He was also an avid fan of the Orioles. Maurice also loved spending time with his friends at a local gathering place in South County. Maurice is survived by his wife of 67 years Peggy A. Parks, sons Steven Maurice Parks and wife Kathy of Myrtle Beach, SC, Michael Wayne Parks and wife Marsha of Lothian and daughter Kathy L. Charles R. “Charlie” “Chuck” Palmer, age 80 of Dunkirk, MD, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at home with his family by his side. He was born on January 25, 1937 in Dalton, GA to Della [Starcher] and Floyd Palmer. He proudly served 31 years in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of CMSgt. He served 13 years on Air Force One under the administrations of four Presidents. Eleven of those years as Chief Flight Steward until his retirement in 1986. Charles was the beloved husband of Colleen H. Palmer and the loving father of Steven (Connie), David (Martha), Pamela Palmer and Teresa Friedman (Allen). He was the devoted grandfather of Alex, Candace, Anna, Charles and Nona. He was also survived by four brothers, other family and friends. Klemens Franz Schuster, 83, of Luray, VA, passed away at Sentara RMH Medical Center, in Harrisonburg, VA on December 21, 2017, surrounded by his family. Klemens was born in Berbisdorf, Germany, on April 11, 1934 to Helena (Tkotz) and Franz Schuster. He and his family moved to Maryland, in 1952, where he met and later married Josephine Hutchins. Together they raised their four children in Lothian, MD. Klemens was a hardworking man and owned a construction company, Schuster Brothers, Inc. and JK Lincoln Logs. He enjoyed working, gardening, hunting, and spending time with his family. Klemens practiced his faith daily and had a strong love for the Lord. He was a Past Grand Knight with Knights of Columbus #9302 of St. Mary of the Assumption in Upper Marlboro, MD. Klemens was the loving husband of 62 years to wife, Josie. Paul “Michael” Mitry of Cheltenham, MD, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Washington Hospital Center, at the age of 74. He was born on March 5, 1943, in Kimball, WV, to Mary [Delsignore] and Joseph Mitry. Michael grew up in Prince Georges County, MD; where he attended Catholic school in Upper Marlboro. After high school, he enlisted in the U S Army, serving in company C, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, also known as the “Screaming Eagles”. He received his Parachutist Badge and Expert Riffle Badge, to name a few. He completed his service with an Honorable discharge. After serving his country, Michael started his own construction company, J & M Construction. It operated as a Federal and General Contractor for over 35 years. At that point, Michael went into retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, a “Big Time” Hunter! He loved fishing on the “Dolly Diesel” with friends and family, and riding his Harley Davidson. Walter “Buck” Lee Owens, 67, of Clinton, MD passed away at home on Sunday, December 24, 2017. Born on November 3, 1950 in Maryland to the late Juanita (Raines) and Charles Owens. He attended St. Mary’s Bryantown School and graduated from Archbishop Neale School in La Plata, MD. He joined the United States Marine Corp in November 1968. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland in 1981. As well as a Vietnam Veteran, Mr. Owens worked for the Federal Government and owned his own business as a backhoe operator. He is survived by his loving wife, Ella Owens; caring daughter, Valerie Owens-Dulany (Kevin); beloved grandchildren, Austin and Dylan Dulany of Waldorf, MD; and dear sisters, Eve Owens, and Shirley Land; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Charlotte Marcum and Bruce Owens.

Rosa Consuelo Pena-Ariet, long-time resident of Columbia, MD, passed away early morning, Thursday, December 28, 2017, in her daughter’s home surrounded by loving family, at the age of 98. She was born on August 30, 1919, in Havana, Cuba. Rosa directed and taught her own private school 18 years before she and her family immigrated to the United States in 1962. Rosa then worked as an Account Manager at First American Bank. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Carlos Pena-Ariet, her two children, Carlos Pena-Ariet and Vivian Hopkins. She was the devoted grandmother of six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 31st, at 1:30 pm at South Columbia Baptist Church, 8814 Guilford Road, Columbia, MD 21046. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035.

She was born on April 28, 1952, in Darlington, WI, to Marie [Hayden] and Dale Schult. Debbie was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Upper Marlboro, MD, a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary Upper Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department and past Senior Regent of WOTM Lodge 1350 in Upper Marlboro, MD. Debbie enjoyed cooking, baking and playing shuffle board. She was very passionate about her family. Through all her battles in life, she drew great strength from her faith in God and the support of her family and friends. Ashley Jr, Donna Ashley Tennis and Teresa Ashley Krosnick. She was the daughter of the late Delano Ruth Faught Cheatwood and Henry Edgar Cheatwood. Shanda is survived by her children; Jussandra Drake of Solomon’s, MD, Bryan Brewer of Mechanicsville, MD, 2 grandchildren; Kaythn Diaz of Solomon’s, MD and Andrea Drake of Solomon’s, MD. She graduated from Ventura High School in 1969, and attended Saddleback Valley Community College. She moved from California to St. Mary’s County, MD in 2002. Shanda was a training instructor for NAS Patuxent River, and Booze Allen Hamilton for 45 years. Shanda volunteered for Summerseat Farm, and St. Mary’s Caring Soup Kitchen.
