Franklin “Frank” Wilson Dean, 93 of Hollywood, MD, died peacefully on January 14, 2014, at his residence. He was born June 6, 1920, in Hollywood, MD, to the late George Wilson Dean and Effie Graves Dean. Frank proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1944 to 1945, serving on Iwo Jima during World War II, and receiving the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle. On October 2, 1953, Frank married his beloved late wife, Mary Gertrude Hayden Dean. They spent 53 wonderful years together before her death in 2006. He was employed for 60 years and was Manager at Dean Lumber and Supply Company, Hollywood. He and his late brother, Robert Dean, developed Esperanza Farms in Lexington Park; throughout his life, Frank invested in other real estate endeavors, including Twin Ponds in Hollywood. He served on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of St. Mary’s, which later merged with Mercantile Bank. Frank was a proud Charter Member of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, serving as its first Treasurer, and remained committed to its growth, success and community support throughout his life. She was born March 11, 1959 in New Orleans, LA to the late Manerd William Aden and Tommie Lou Scott Aden of Eupora, MS. Lisa attended Ottawa University where she met her beloved husband, Mark Wayne Darrah. On August 5, 1979, Lisa and Mark married in Carrolton, IL. Together they have celebrated 35 wonderful years of marriage. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from George Mason University in English Literature. She was employed as a Life Cycle Logistics Manager for NAVAIR for the past 10 years. She always put family first, taking great pride in spending as much time as possible with them. Charles Philip Read, 62 of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on January 15, 2014. Born May 20, 1951 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Robert Read and the late Doris Hardy Read. On December 2, 1978, he married Linda Marie Catterton. They just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. He had a long career in HVAC, both as a technician and an instructor, throughout Southern Maryland and the Washington, D.C. area. He was currently employed at Lincoln College of Technology in Columbia, MD. He taught CCD at Immaculate Conception Church in Mechanicsville, MD and was active with Boy Scout Troop 1782 for many years. He served as president for the Chopticon High School Band Boosters, where he was a member for nine years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, helping others, and serving the community. Morris Ambrose Loveless, 86 of Hyattsville passed away January 16, 2014 at Prince George’s Hospital in Cheverly. He was born December 29, 1927 in Washington, D.C. to Bernard and Ethel (Griffith) Loveless. Morris was raised in North Beach and graduated from Calvert High School. He entered the U.S. Navy on March 25, 1946 and was honorably discharged as a Seaman 2nd Class on January 22, 1948, earning the World War II Victory Medal. Morris married Mildred Jean Schmidt on June 3, 1950 and they made their home in Hyattsville. He was employed as a brakeman on the railroad in Washington, D.C. for twenty years, and was later a Stationary Engineer with the U.S. Government Printing Office, retiring in 1987. Morris was a member of the American Legion Post 108 in Cheverly, the Fleet Reserve in Annapolis, and St. Bernard’s Parish in Riverdale. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, stained glass, civil war history, Sudoku puzzles, and watching sports. Francis Albert Greenwell was born in Ridge, Maryland on April 30, 1935 and departed this life on January 16, 2014. He was the son of the late James Ralph Grinnell and Sophia Mae Barnes Reed. Francis, grew up in Ridge, Maryland where he also attended school before he met and married his wife of fifty-three years, Brunia ‘Mae’ Harris Greenwell. Not long after getting married, he and his wife moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked construction before taking his first Federal Government job at the Arlington Cemetery. While living in Washington, D.C., Francis and his wife were blessed with six children. He later left the government and started a janitorial service just before returning to the Lexington Park area in 1973. He spent several years working private sector jobs until he was reinstated to government service with the Department of Navy at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station where he worked for several years before transferring to the Washington Navy Yard. Francis completed 20 years of government service to retire in May 1997, although he continued to work periodically until late 2012. Robert Flemming “Bob” Woody, 76 of Lexington Park, MD, died January 18, 2014, at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. He was born on July 12, 1937, in Moundsville, WV, to the late Donald W. Woody and Mary Delores White. Bob proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955 to his retirement in 1981 as a Master Chief Petty Officer. Upon retirement from the Navy, he began his second career as a Vice President with Veridian/Wyle. After 22 years of dedicated service, he retired in May 2004. On May 13, 1960, he married Regina Lenora Peckford at St. Martin’s Anglican Church in Newfoundland, Canada. Together they celebrated 53 wonderful years together. Bob was an active member of the Church of the Ascension, serving as a Lay Minister and Senior Warden of the church. Jeff was employed as a siding installer for Full House Siding (formerly D & M Siding) in Mechanicsville, MD. Jeff loved music, hunting, fishing and was a collector of decoys. Harold Stewart Guiles, 82 of Leonardtown, MD, died on January 15, 2014, at the Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD. He was born on October 3, 1931 in Norwalk, CT to the late Stewart Henry Guiles and was raised by his beloved late grandmother, Hattie Bedell. Harold was an Army veteran, where he was in Engineering Corp. and worked on Military Personnel Vehicles. After the military, he returned home and married his late wife, Joan Patricia Guiles. Harold and Joan enjoyed 56 wonderful loving years together before her passing in September 2010. Harold was employed for over 32 years as an auto mechanic, specializing in large equipment, where he retired from the Town of Wilton in Connecticut. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His hobbies included golfing, bowling, boating and fishing, and he was a member of the South Norwalk Boat Club. Merle Windsor Howard, 56 of Deale passed away January 21, 2014 at his residence. He was born June 25, 1957 in Annapolis to Merle and Katherine (Windsor) Howard. Merle was raised in Deale and attended Southern High School. He farmed with his father and brother on the family tobacco farm in Deale until 1990. He married Judy Alyce Martino on July 7, 1990. After their marriage Merle and Judy sold produce and also owned and operated a pumpkin farm in Deale. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Anne Arundel County for thirty years, retiring in 2006. After his retirement, he worked for West River Gardens as a wood cutter. Merle loved life on the farm; he enjoyed hunting, crabbing, collecting International tractors and guns, watching western movies, and spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. Edward Anthony Dean, 54 of Hollywood, MD died January 18, 2014 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. Born October 1, 1959 in Scotland, MD he was the son of Catherine P. (Ridgell) Dean of Scotland, MD and the late Nelson Edward Dean. Edward was a graduate of Great Mills High School and received his associates degree in IT from the College of Southern Maryland. He worked for Maryland Tobacco Growers for nine years, Southern States for seven years, and then the Maryland Department of Agriculture for nineteen years.
