Kacey Marie Clarke, 27, of Newburg, MD, formerly of Chaptico, MD, passed away on January 20, 2022 at her home in Newburg, MD. Born on October 5, 1994 in Birmingham, AL, she was the daughter of Karen and Michael Bruce and Gary and Shae Dailey. Kacey was the loving wife of Shane Clarke, whom she married on May 29, 2021 at her mom and stepdad’s house in Coltons Point, MD. She is survived by her pit bull puppy, Ace, her siblings Rachael Bruce of Coltons Point, MD, Mikey Bruce USMC, WA, Luke Bruce of Coltons Point, MD, and Hunter Dailey of Birmingham, AL, as well as many grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Kacey graduated from Chopticon High School in 2012. She loved her family, especially her siblings, her puppy, Ace, her husband, Shane, her mom, and her sister’s best friend. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mary Dryden officiating. Interment will be private.

Robert William (Bobby) Guy passed away peacefully at his home in Leonardtown MD., on January 24, 2022, surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 25, 1953, in Washington, DC, to the late James E. Guy and the late Joan (Marsh) Guy of Hollywood, MD. Bobby leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Kathy Morgan Guy. Bobby is survived by his son Jason A. Guy of Leonardtown MD., daughter Michelle Guy of Mechanicsville MD., sibling Kareen Thompson (Wayne) of Mechanicsville MD., 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and his faithful and loyal companion, Scruffy. He was preceded in death by his sister Julie Ludke of Hollywood MD., his daughter Lauren Bishop of Hancock MD., and granddaughter Shelby Dulaney of Hancock MD. He is also survived by his brother/sister in-laws Roy Morgan (Barbara deceased) of FL., Dennis Morgan (Sandy), Jean Nelson (Donnie), Steve Morgan (Cindy) of Mechanicsville MD., Gail White (Roger) of Abell MD., Glenn Morgan of Scotland MD., and Kevin Morgan (Lisa) of Chaptico MD. Gary Delano Hurley, 87 of Valley Lee, MD passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, January 25, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Cambridge, MD he was the son of the late Christopher Leon Hurley and Lucy Wiley. As a child and young man, he would spend the summer months working on his grandparents farm in Dorchester County, MD. He would tell stories of his experiences on the farm with great fondness and pride throughout his entire life. Gary was a graduate of Cambridge High School, Class of 1952, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. After his discharge from the military, Gary became a Maryland Natural Resources Policeman and continued to work for the Department of Natural Resources until his retirement in 1985. Gary spent countless hours on the St. Mary’s River catching crabs and oysters in order to supplement the family income. Marion Baker Young, , “Baker”, 89, of Aquasco, MD passed away peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2022 at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, in LaPlata, MD. He was born on November 5, 1932 in Aquasco, MD to the late Shelby Sinclair Young and Mae Baker Young. He attended Gwynn Park High School, where he excelled at running track and playing soccer. Baker would go on to enlist in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged and returned home to work for Thoms. Somerville Co. in Washington, D.C.  Following this, he began his career in law enforcement. Baker was a respected member of the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department for 26 years before his retirement in June 1992.  He was very proud of his service to his country and community and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion, VFW and Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.  He was also a Mason and Shriner. Curtis Lester Jordan, 66, of Clements, MD died on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD with his loving family at his side. Born July 14, 1955 in Washington, D.C. to the late Dearl Jordan and Anna Marie Miller Jordan. Curtis retired from Mirant after 37 years, he was a diligent worker and had made many friends throughout his career. He also had many hobbies and interests that include hunting, and the outdoors and was a gun enthusiast. He enjoyed model cars and airplanes, and he was also very knowledgeable about many things, especially History. Curtis also loved his miniature schnauzers Layla & Danica & Border Collie Sammy. He is survived by his wife Judy Lynn Jordan and his two children: Maranda Stieringer-Smith (Donald) of New Castle, DE and Curtis L. Tony Raymond Bean, 43, of California, MD passed away on January 17, 2022. Tony was born on September 20, 1978, in Leonardtown, MD. He was born just nine blissful months after the marriage of his parents, William B. Bean Jr. and Connie A. Bean of California, MD. Tony was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Joe Bean, maternal grandmother, Addie Marie Biscoe, paternal grandparents, William B. Bean, Sr. and Gertrude Mae Bean, and great grandmothers, Gertrude Goldsmith, Edna Fannon and Lillian Gentry. Tony was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. He graduated from Leonardtown High School in 1996. He started working for the family business, C.A. Bean Inc. while he was still in high school. In the early days, Tony and his brothers would leave school and head straight to the asphalt plant to fill silos for the next day’s work. He continued to work for the family as they expanded into paving the tri-county area. Gloria Paxton Ausburn, 73 of Park Hall, MD passed away on January 29, 2022 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD with her loving family at her side. Gloria was born on September 3, 1948 in Pelzer, SC to the late W.J. Paxton and Virginia James Paxton. Gloria’s family was the joy of her life.  On September 11, 1981, Gloria married her beloved husband, Gerald Ray Ausburn in Greenville, SC.  Gloria and Gerald enjoyed 41 wonderful years of marriage and were an example of true love to everyone who had the pleasure of witnessing their love for each other.  Her family was always her top priority and she was their biggest fan in every part of their lives.   Her support of family and friends was unwavering in all they did. Maurice Owen Toon departed this life suddenly on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Maurice was born and raised in Lexington Park, MD to the late Patrick Henry and Mary Toon on May 10, 1956.  He was a loving and devoted father to his only daughter, the late LaKieta Toon.  Maurice was united in holy matrimony to Mae Batts on September 29, 2001.  Although they were separated in miles, their family connection never wavered, and they remained very close. Maurice was educated in the St. Mary’s County School System.  After completing high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served from July 1978 until he was medically discharged in January 1980. Maurice didn’t talk much about the time he spent serving in the military, but he was a proud Navy man.  After retiring from the military Maurice worked various jobs and finally retired from Cheltenham Youth Facility (Boy’s Village). Maurice accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Forest Heights, MD. Maryland International Raceway Regrets to Announce Passing of Head Car Show Judge Greg Grifana

MECHANICSVILLE, MARYLAND (February 4th, 2022) – It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Greg Grifana. Greg was the head car show judge at MIR as well as many other shows and organizations. “Greg has done my car shows here at MIR for the 30-plus years that I have been here,” stated track owner Royce Miller. Greg was a fellow gear head that enjoyed and appreciated cool cars, trucks, and bikes. Greg, along with his wife Bertie and their crew, handled the shows from parking and registration, to judging and awards. Royce added, “It really hurts when you lose someone that you have worked with for so long that was such a vital part of the organization.” Bertie and senior judge Jake McSparron, along with the rest of the G.S. Grifana Car Shows Inc crew, have committed to continuing the legacy of judging that Greg started, in his honor. Raymond B. “Ray” Brown, 70, of Great Mills, MD, passed away on January 4, 2022 in Leonardtown, MD. Born on September 5, 1951 in Maryland, Ray was the son of the late Mary B. Moore Brown and Abraham B. Brown, Jr. Ray was the loving husband of 36 years to Sandra Brown, whom he married in Leonardtown, MD. Ray is survived by his children Brian B. He was born on December 07, 1946, in Germany, to the late Herman and Else Jaster of Swartz Creek, Michigan. Gunther leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Monica Jaster. Gunther is survived by his 3 children, daughter Rachelle and husband Matthew Osborne of Leonardtown, Maryland, son Scott and wife Amanda Jaster of Lexington Park, Maryland, daughter Stacy Jaster of Lexington Park, Maryland; 14 grandchildren, Cameron, Carliegh, Lauryn, Lainey, Addilynn, Aiden, Ryland, Ronan and Malachi Osborne; Logan and Landon Jaster; and Caleb, Monika, and Robbi Hay; siblings, sister Magdalena Heinze and brother Siegfried Jaster; and a multitude of in-laws, nieces and nephews. Lawrence Edwin “Larry” Mills, Jr., 84, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on February 2, 2022 at his home. Born on January 9, 1938 in Morganfield, KY, he was the son of the late Catharine Greenwell and the late Lawrence Edwin Mills. Larry was the loving husband of the late Gloria “Teresa” Mills, whom he married on March 5, 1960 in Avenue, MD, and who preceded him in death on May 6, 2010. He is survived by his children Jeffrey Mills (Judy) of Waldorf, MD and Bonnie Tountasakis (Rick) of Queenstown, MD, his siblings Donald Mills of KY and Margaret Ann Mills of AZ, along with his grandchildren Mitchell Mills and Katelyn Tountasakis Micken. Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Mills. Larry served in the United States Navy for four years, before being honorably discharged in 1960. During this time, he served on the U.S.S. Shannon Christine Thomas was a loving daughter, mother, sister, and friend. She passed pain free and in peace on January 26, 2022 at the age of 52 with her family by her side. Shannon was born on May 14, 1969 in San Diego, California, to parents Alfred and Claudia. She grew up on St. George’s Island in St. Mary’s County and graduated from Leonardtown High School. Her first job was as a cashier at Wendy’s. Shannon worked very hard and stayed dedicated to better her life. She obtained her Associates Degree. Shannon became a DoD contractor and worked as a Senior Systems Analyst leading up to her passing. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She cherished her time with her son. She enjoyed game nights with her family. She loved spending time with her grandpups, Rosie and Tuckey. She had a bubbly personality that would light up every room. Shannon loved pushing her Mustang, Roxy, down the road rocking out to music. She joined a Dragon Boat team in Charleston, SC, full of cancer survivors that inspired her to keep fighting. Hugh “Hughie” Howard Heiss, Jr., 61, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on January 26, 2022 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. Hughie was born on December 31, 1960 to Hugh Howard Heiss, Sr. and Louise V. Heiss “Stephens” in Washington DC. After he received his diploma, he went on to study Computer Electronics at TESST College of Technology. After graduating from his college classes, he landed his first job as a Electronics Technician for Computerland, kicking off his career in electronics. In 1987, he met Kim, and they wed in 1990, going on to have three (3) wonderful children, Hugh III, Amanda, and Hunter. Hughie was a passionate sports fan. He loved playing pool with the local pool leagues and horseshoes. When he wasn’t doing that, you could find him in the living room cheering on each and every Washington Sports Team. Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department Regrets to Announce Passing of Past Chief and Life Member B. Kennedy Abell Jr.

It is with deepest sympathy that the membership of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department and it’s Auxiliary announce the passing of Past Chief B. Kennedy Abell Jr. Kennedy recently celebrated his 77th year as a member of the department and over his many years of service held all leadership and operational position in the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department. He served as President of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association in 1960 and was inducted into SMVFA Hall of Fame in 1987. He attended the Maryland State Firemen’s Association every year since 1949 and always looked forward to Ocean City Convention. On October 12, 2020, the department dedicated “Squad 1” a 2017 Seagrave Marauder Rescue Squad in his name. A regular at visiting the station, he will be greatly missed and his dedication to the fire service will never be forgotten. Arrangement for Kennedy’s life celebration will be announced at a later date.

It is with the deepest sympathy the membership of the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department and EMS Inc. and Auxiliary announce the passing of Past President Thomas A. Pilkerton, fondly known by all his friends, family, and work colleagues at the R.E. Michel Company as “Andy”. Andy was a Life Member of our department dedicating over 33 years of faithful service. During his tenure, he held various leadership and operational positions within the department. Specifically, Andy joined the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, Inc., formerly known as the Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department in 1971. Andy served our department as our longest-running President from 1974 to 1980, and again from 1982 to 1994, totaling 18 years of dedicated service to our organization. Between his Presidential runs, Andy served as our EMS Rescue Captain in 1981. Not only was Andy dedicated to our department, but he also continued his public service through the Charles County Volunteer Fire and EMS Associations by holding positions within both organizations. John J, Sharp, III, age 91, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away February 9, 2022. He was born on January 5, 1931 to John Joseph Sharp, Jr. and Catherine Brindle in Philadelphia, PA. John married Avis Geraldine Sharp “Jerry” and together they spent 63 years of marriage and raised one (1) son, John Clifton. He served his country proud in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 20 years. He then went on working for civil service for a few years before finally retiring. He is survived by his wife Avis Geraldine Sharp; his son John Clifton; his two sisters Bonnie Bradford and her husband Richard Bradford and Fran Cargill; his granddaughter Angie Higgs and her husband Billy Higgs; his great granddaughter Hailey and great grandsons Matthew, Danny, Corbin and Tyler. She was born on October 24, 1936, to Marvin “Buzz” Harrison Fenno and Mildred Beatrice Fenno Wines, in Washington DC. Jean was a dedicated mom, grandma, great grandma and wife to her beloved husband of 65 years, Ferdinand, “Fred” Locantore. She devoted her life to her daughters, Peggy Wrightson (deceased), Linda Macpherson and husband, Bruce, her son, Michael Locantore and wife Anita. Grandchildren Jason Wrightson (deceased), Bradley Macpherson, Allan and his wife Rachel Locantore. Amber and her husband Sheldon Johnson, Nicole and her husband, Robert Wagner and Vinny Scali.
