Dorothy Joan Green of Waldorf, MD passed on April 7, 2022, at the age of 80. For the last several years she had been a resident of Morningside House Assisted Living in Waldorf, MD. She is survived by her siblings, Anthony Green (Teresa) and Patricia Reed (William). She was preceded in death by her parents George and Agnes Green. Dorothy was a long-time resident of New York City and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church there. She is survived by 8 nieces and nephews, Bill Reed Jr (Martha), Susan Zingaro (James), Regina Reed, Brian Reed (Amy), Christine Canham (Tim), Cynthia Peck, Mathew Green (Casey), and Valerie Amend (Ronald), as well as 14 great nieces/nephews. Dorothy had an exceptional memory, active until death. Her favorite pastimes included theater and reading, especially history. In place of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Charles County, MD, 2505 Davis Rd, Waldorf, MD 20603. Virginia Lee Goodchild, 89, of Bowie, MD, passed away on April 15, 2022. Virginia was born on April 10, 1933, to Vivian and Mary Lewis in Baltimore, MD. In the 1950s, she met James Goodchild, and they wed a few years after, going on to have seven children; James Goodchild of Stevensville, MD, Michael Goodchild of Centerville, MD, Joey Goodchild of Annapolis, MD, Linda Goodchild of Bowie, MD, Deborah Foster of Berlin, MD, Gail Goodchild of Frederick, MD, and Brenda Howes of Williamsburg, VA. Virginia spent her time playing bingo and going to the casino. Virginia was predeceased by her parents Vivian and Mary Lewis, her sister Mary Mason, and her husband James Goodchild. She is survived by her children James Goodchild of Stevensville, MD, Michael Goodchild of Centerville, MD, Joey Goodchild of Annapolis, MD, Linda Goodchild of Bowie, MD, Deborah Foster of Berlin, MD, Gail Goodchild of Frederick, MD, and Brenda Howes of Williamsburg, VA. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, her nineteen great-grandchildren, and her one great-great-grandchild. James Louis Baden Jr., 77, of Brandywine, Maryland passed away on April 12, 2022. Born in Washington, D.C. on December 10, 1944. He was the son of the late James Louis Baden Sr. and the late Mildred Ophelia Baden. James is survived by his son, James L. Baden Ill (Balinda), and daughters, Angie Goertz (Curtis) and April Bradshaw (Robert Jr.). Also, surviving are his grandchildren, Robert Goertz and Emma Baden, and stepgrandsons Robert J. Bradshaw, Logan Bradshaw, and Ryan Sears. James was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years in Brandywine, MD, retiring in 2000. He was also a farmer since he was young working with his father. He also enjoyed hunting and shooting. The family will receive friends and family for James’ Life Celebration Visitation on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A, 3095 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622 from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm with a Prayer Service at Noon. Izayik Makeen Somerville was born on March 21, 2022 at 8:10 p.m. at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD to Marcelis Somerville and Emily Gibson. He passed 8 days later in the Neonatal Unit (Nicu) at MedStar Georgetown Hospital in Washington, D.C. Izayik weighed 2 pounds & 5oz. He was 13 inches long. He was born at 26 weeks & 5 days. He came unexpectedly, but lived a strong life. His middle name actually means “strong.” Izayik was an extremely active little boy inside & outside the womb. He was eating 10ML of milk by day 2 of life. Izayik got to have his father feed him, and wipe milk from his lips. Izayik held his mother’s finger almost instantly when she reached inside the incubator. Izayik knew his parents’ voices, smell, and touch. He was, and is a special little boy. An angel wrote down in his parents book of life Izayik’s birthday, and whispered as she closed the book, this boy is “too strong & perfect for this earth,” and thus he was taken to heaven to be with the Lord. Mary Elsie Redmond Bowles, 98, passed away on April 3, 2022, at the Hospice House in Callaway, Maryland. She was born on March 10, 1924, in Hollywood, Maryland, to James Oscar & Mary Edna (Hewitt) Redmond, both deceased. She was a life-long resident of St. Mary’s County, Maryland. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Leonardtown, Maryland. She married her beloved husband James Wilmer Bowles, Sr. on January 18, 1942. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing on August 4, 2003. Elsie was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America, Court Father Andrew White for many years.  She was also a lifelong member of St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church and loved singing in the Choir. She and her husband, Wilmer, owned and operated Bowles Florist and Bowles Real Estate Co., always working together as partners. They led a very busy family, business and political life. John Eric Nelson

On April 11, 2022, John Eric Nelson passed away peacefully at the age of 72, at his home in Hollywood, MD surrounded by his loving family. John was born on October 18, 1949 in Miami, Florida to the late William James Nelson and Mary Eikenberry Nelson. On January 31, 1969 John voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served two tours in Vietnam where he earned the National Defense Service Medal. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he continued to serve his country as a Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service from which he retired in 2011. He married his lovely wife Ann on August 6, 1977.  Together, they raised two children, Jason and Ashley.  John was a world traveler and enjoyed discovering new places.  He was known to have a green thumb and delighted in being outdoors.  He was a steadfast fan of the Miami Dolphins and enjoyed the games with a cold beer in his hand. John was a devout catholic and practiced his faith daily. His greatest love was spending time with his family. Michael J Morrison, 76, passed away unexpectedly at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center, on April 3, 2022. He was born on February 9, 1946, in Washington DC to Ray Preston Morrison, Sr., and Elsie Z. Morrison “Pope”. He was a son, a marine, a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, and a friend to so many. He worked the night shift for several grocery chains before he retired from Giant Food in California, MD in March of 2020. He raised two children with his late wife Darlene, John Edward Ulrich, and Michael Robert Ulrich. He was a devoted husband and missed his wife immensely since her passing in 2015. His only solace was his family and his pets. Michael had six indoor cats and more than twenty outdoor cats he fed every day without fail. He would go out of his way to make sure they were warm in the winter as well. His latest devotion was to his Great Great niece Alyanna (Aly) Clover. Paul Carroll, son of the late Douglas and Grace Tolson Carroll was born on March 23, 1936 in St. James, Maryland. He moved to his mansion in Heaven on Wednesday, March 31, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. He attended St. Peter Claver Elementary School in Ridge, Maryland. He was employed at Rosecroft Development Corporation as a Landscaper for 60 years. Paul enjoyed fixing lawnmowers, fishing, going to parties and hanging out with the Hollywood crew. He leaves to cherish his loving sister, Sarah Chase and brother, Francis (Annie) Carroll of Lexington Park, MD, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. He also leaves behind his good friend, Anthony Paupaw and his niece, Barbara Chase who took care of him until the end-God Bless. Eugene “Gene” Robert Forgo, 78

Eugene “Gene” Robert Forgo, 78, from Olympia, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly on March 16, 2022. Gene was born on December 2, 1943, to Robert P. Forgo and Gwendolyn Moad-Forgo in Los Angeles, California. He was one (1) of two (2) children, including his twin sister, Anita. After graduating from Claremont High School in 1962, he volunteered in the Air Force, where he attained the rank of Airman First Class and served as a supply engineer during the Vietnam War. After his service commitment ended, Gene enrolled in the Washington D.C. Police Academy and graduated in 1967. He served with distinction in the police force and helped quell the riots in Washington in 1968. A severely broken leg forced him to leave the police force in 1973, and he became a structural steel engineer, where he examined the safety of bridges and buildings. In the late 1970s, he became a computer technician for ADT Security, and in the early 1980s, he became a handgun tester for Beretta Firearms. He returned to work at ADT Security in the early 1990s, but he returned to his law enforcement roots in the late 1990s when he became a bail recovery agent, a role he […]

Mary Catherine Abell, 82, of Valley Lee, MD passed away peacefully on April 8, 2022 at Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD with her loving family at her side. She was born on January 21, 1940 in Ridge, MD to the late Michael Love Joy and Mary Magdalen Gatton Joy. Mary is a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County.  She was employed by the Department of Public Works at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River as a dedicated and reliable administrative assistant until her retirement. On November 28, 1964, she married her beloved husband, David Lloyd Abell at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  Together they celebrated over 49 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in February 2014. Growing up and in her younger years, Mary enjoyed water skiing with her sister, fishing and catching soft crabs. She and her husband enjoyed vacationing every year in Myrtle Beach, SC. They grew bountiful gardens which they shared with their family and friends. She also canned much of their harvest. She was a delicious cook and enjoyed hosting Easter and Christmas family dinners. Luke Benedict Johnson, 95, of Mechanicsville, passed away on April 13, 2022, at his home.  He was born on September 24, 1926, in St. Mary’s County to the late William and Lula (Wathen) Johnson. Luke married his beloved wife, Gloria in 1949 and together they raised two sons, Luke X. Johnson and Richard M. Johnson. The majority of his career, Luke spent as an Equipment Operator, ultimately retiring from the Montgomery County government in 1982.  Luke loved being around and, on the water, spending time crabbing and boating.  He also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Luke was predeceased by his son, Luke X. Johnson; his five brothers, Joseph, George, Lewis, William, Robert Johnson, and his two sisters, Mary and Janice. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Gloria Johnson, and his son Richard M. Johnson. Sadly, on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Lindsay, loving wife, mother and friend, passed away at the age of 83, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born December 1, 1938 to the late Rudolph Aloysius and Edith Elizabeth Thompson, and was their first child. Betty met Mel, the love of her life, when he was a sailor stationed at Patuxent River.  They married at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on November 28, 1957 and their union lasted for 63 adventure filled years.  They were blessed with three children, Liz, Mel and Rick.  The family moved around the country while Mel served in the Navy, with Betty maintaining their home while being a devoted wife and mother. Betty was a loving and spirited person who took great pride in her family.  She was fiercely loyal and independent, and she wore her heart on her sleeve.  She made sure you always knew where you stood with her, while making life fun at every turn.  She frequently went to great lengths to share that fun with those she loved!  She was a lover of animals, especially dogs, and had many special pets over the years. David Joe Gaulke, 90

David Joe Gaulke, 90 of California, MD passed away on April 19, 2022 at the Hospice House of St. Mary’s, Callaway, MD. He was born on July 30, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Harry Johann Gaulke and Elaine Virginia Wessinger. Dave joined the Marine Corps Reserve several months before high school graduation and his unit was called into active duty during the Korean War. He served proudly stateside for four years; once a Marine, always a Marine! He completed a plasterers apprenticeship and thoroughly enjoyed this profession with his Dad and Uncle until sheetrock emerged as a viable replacement, and college seemed the better choice. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Macalester College, Minnesota, his Master’s in Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology. Dave was a pioneer in the computer industry starting with NCR in 1961. He traveled the country from New York to St. Petersburg to develop computerized banking programs made difficult by the limitations of the computer and its machine language. Michelle Ann Jordan, 68 of California, MD passed away on April 19, 2022 in Leonardtown, MD. She was born on August 19, 1953 in Fairfield, CT to the late Thomas Joseph Carroll and Gertrude Marie Morgan. Michelle married her loving husband, Fred Raymond Jordan on October 23, 1997 in Lusby, MD. Her strong work ethic began at the young age of 18 and she worked for various government contractors, most recently as a Security Specialist for ASEC Corp until she retired in 2015. Michelle loved to travel, work in her flower gardens and bake for her friends and family. A dedicated outdoor enthusiast she was always up for a road trip. She loved to camp, backpack, mountain bike, road bike and she fished all over the country but she enjoyed cooking with her grandchildren the most. Susan Theresa “Susie” McGregor, 62 of Hollywood, MD passed away on April 21, 2022 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital with her nephew, Michael at her side. She was born on June 7, 1959 in Leonardtown, MD to the late James Latham Mattingly, Sr. and Hazel Beatrice Toute. Susie married her beloved husband, William “Bill” McGregor on April 23, 2016 at their home. They spent 23 years together before his passing in September of 2016. She was raised in Chaptico, Maryland but later moved to Hollywood to be close to her sisters. She enjoyed playing Bingo and card games, especially Pokeno, and Rummy 500. She loved watching TV shows, her favorites being Perry Mason, the Golden Girls, Two and a Half Men, and the Big Bang Theory. Karen Elinor Brobst, 86 of Lexington Park, MD passed away on April 26, 2022 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD 20650. She was born on June 6, 1935 in Muskegon, MI to the late George Gilbert and Julia (Wilson) Gilbert. Karen loved God, her family, her community, and her country. She was known for her volunteer work throughout Southern Maryland community. She often took leadership roles in several organizations including the American Association of University Women, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Fleet Reserve Auxiliary. Karen was a lifelong reader and she was an active patron of the public library. She cared about the rights of women and girls and she supported causes that helped to improve women’s lives. She worked with groups that support Veterans, active duty military and their families. Karen was generous with her time and resources. She volunteered at the library book sales, coached youth bowling leagues, volunteered at the Charlotte Hall Veteran’s Home Library, built care packages for the needy, donated to the food pantries and soup kitchens and so much more. Martha Louise (Hill) Wheeler, 77, of Bushwood, MD passed away at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital on April 22, 2022.   Born on January 18, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson Hill and the late Mary Agnes Alvey Hill. Martha met her husband, Harry James Wheeler in Washington, DC and went on to marry him in Chaptico, MD.  They celebrated 54 years of marriage before his passing in April 2021. She enjoyed a career as a successful Realtor for Mowery Real Estate helping many families in the Southern MD area find their dream homes before retiring in 2010.  In her free time, she enjoyed crafting, especially painting animals and nature and most recently, the pixel-art projects she created, which were greatly treasured by her family.  An avid animal lover, Martha adored her pet Yorkies, Daisy and Ruthie and was a member of the ASPCA.  She was also a member of the Jaycee’s and Women’s Knights of Columbus. She was born on February 8, 1993 in Leonardtown, MD to Larry Paul Joy of Chaptico, MD and Flora Thomas Laungayan Joy of Great Mills, MD. Amber is a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. She attended Leonardtown High School and the College of Southern Maryland. She was creative and artistic, making many beautiful pieces. She enjoyed being outside gardening, fishing, and crabbing with her dad.  She was an animal lover and rescued many abandoned animals.  She had many pets during her lifetime, including dogs, cats, and ducks. Growing up she aspired to be a veterinarian. She enjoyed horseback riding and baking cookies with her mom. Her witty sense of humor was infectious and enabled her to make friends easily. Rosalinda Wepf McWilliams, age 86, entered into rest on Saturday, April 16, 2022. Mrs. McWilliams was born in Bronx, NY, on May 19, 1935. She graduated from Bergenfield High School, Bergenfield, NJ, in 1935, and College of Notre Dame of Maryland in 1957. She was the wife of the late Dr. Thomas G. McWilliams, Jr, a St. Mary’s County native. Mrs. McWilliams had a long career as an elementary school teacher, specializing in music education. She shared her beautiful voice with the church choir and enjoyed travelling and caring for several horses she had over the years. Ron is survived by his wife Patricia Tinsley, whom he married in September 1976 in La Plata, MD, his sister Joan Turgeau, children John (Judi), Ronald Jr. (Norma), Donna, Theresa, Joe (Kristol); grandchildren Drew, Meghan, Sarah, Jordan, Cole, and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Jordan Danielle Tinsley. Ron proudly served for over 25 years as an electrician with the IBEW Local 26. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, and was an avid fisherman, gardener, enjoyed collecting antique fishing tackle, sharing a smile, and could often be found at the local poker or pitch game. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 25, 2022 from 5:00PM to 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, with prayers recited at 7:00 PM.
