Stephen Edward McGovern of Calvert County, MD passed away on November 12, 2014 at the age of 71. Steve was a retired businessman who spent many years with his business pursuits around the world. In his youth, Steve was an Eagle Scout. As a young adult he served as the Chief of Police in Albers, IL. We will remember Steve as someone who was happy, talkative, outgoing, and who enjoyed his volunteer work with the American Red Cross. Steve is preceded in death by his father Marshall McGovern and his brother Ronald. He is survived by his daughters Miranda and Anahita, mother Virginia, and sister Jan. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Jacob, Troy, and Armaan. Charles Michael Logue, 60 of Prince Frederick, MD passed away on November 10, 2014. Born November 18, 1953 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Charles Payton Logue and Naomi Ruth (Castle) Logue. Charles graduated from Gwynn Park High School in 1972 and married his wife Betsy Lynn Logue on August 14, 1974. They moved to Calvert County in 2006 from Upper Marlboro, MD. Charles was a carpenter/foreman for the Prince George’s County Public School Board and enjoyed woodworking and building things. Charles is survived by his wife, Betsy Lynn Logue of Prince Frederick, MD; his children, Emily Otterson of Greenbelt, MD and Naomi Logue of Prince Frederick, MD; two grandchildren; his siblings, Susan Denise Logue of Federalsburg, MD, John William Logue of Mechanicsville, MD, David Alan Logue of Raleigh, NC, Jackie A. Herbert A. “Herbie” Tucker, III, 77 of St. Leonard, MD passed away on November 12, 2014 in Prince Frederick, MD. He was born on July 31, 1937 in Washington, D.C., to the late Geraldine S. Tucker and Herbert A. Tucker, Jr. Herbie attended Blair High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Calvert County from Charles County in May of 1978. He was a salesman in the retail sales industry. Herbie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and father in-law. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved attending a good family get-together or cookout. He was very loyal to his friends, and would help anyone in need. He was a devout Washington Redskins fan and hard to beat at any card game especially Gin Rummy. Herbie was a member of the Moose Lodge of Waldorf, MD and the Elks Lodge of Prince Frederick, MD. Harry Calvin “Snutty” Wright, Sr., 91, of Ridge, MD, died on November 12, 2014 at Solomons Nursing Center in Solomons, MD.Born on August 28, 1923, in Ridge, MD, he is the son of the late Harry B. Wright and Sabre C. Nelson. Snutty worked for many years for Hoke Amusement, repairing slot machines throughout St. Mary’s County. He also worked for Raley’s Furniture for many years until his retirement. After retirement he spent much of his time watching the Baltimore Orioles and cutting grass. He also enjoyed fishing, carpentry, and spending time with his family and friends. He was always willing and able to drop everything and lend a helping hand. Snutty is survived by his beloved wife, Annie Lucille Wright. They would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on December 27, 2014. He is also survived by his four children: Mary Catherine Fenhagen (Ray), Harry C. Wright, Jr. (Ellen), Joseph T. Wright, and Robert I. Linda Ann Cope, 68 of Leonardtown, MD, died on November 12, 2014 at her residence. Born on July 8, 1946, in Washington, D.C., she is the daughter of the late Harry Klotz and Sarah Blakely Klotz. Linda was employed for over 30 years as a bookkeeper until her retirement. She loved to spend time at the beach and going out on the boat. Her hobbies included, dancing, playing softball, reading, and shopping. She had an artistic flair, making ceramics and painting. She made a beautiful, treasured doll house for her daughter. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and friends. Cornelia Francis Smith, 88 of Charlotte Hall, MD passed away on November 11, 2014 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital Center in Leonardtown, MD. She was born on June 1, 1926 in Charlottesville, VA to the late Jason Pritchett and the late Bessie (Wood) Pritchett. Cornelia enjoyed playing bingo, having dinner with friends, going to fairs, talking on the phone with family & friends, decorating and watching her favorite game shows on television. She painted houses for a living. Thomas J. Burke, Sr., 89 of Hollywood, MD, passed away November 10, 2014 surrounded by loving family at his home. He was born in Bronx, NY, on January 29, 1925 to William P. Burke and Eleanor White Burke. Leaving high school early, Tom proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in the Bomb Disposal Unit. After the war, Tom earned his Bachelors Degree from George Washington University and began his career in the field of Public Relations. He was a reporter for The Washington Star, Editor of the Arlington Daily, Director of Public Affairs for the Maryland-National Park & Planning Commission, Director of Public Relations for American National Bank and then became a Partner with Hoffman Associates Public Relations Firm. Tom finally settled at Holy Cross Hospital as the Director of Public Relations in Silver Spring, MD, where he ultimately retired in 1985, after 15 years of service. Al Owens, 46, of Lexington Park, MD, died on November 15, 2014 at his residence. Born on June 30, 1968, in Centralia, IL, he is the son of the late Raymond P. Owens and Katie Lou Owens of Lexington Park, MD. Al enjoyed gardening with his late father, hunting, playing video games and watching Super Natural. He was an excellent cook and kept an immaculate home. He had an extensive DVD collection. He enjoyed his pet cat, Flash and pet dog, Kate. However, his greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his niece, nephew and great nephew. In addition to his mother, he is also survived by his sister, Angelia Gawne and her husband, David of Lexington Park, MD; his nephew, Zachary Gawne of Lexington Park, MD; his niece, Tabitha Gawne of Hollywood, MD and his great-nephew, Landon Arron Allwine of Hollywood, MD. William DeWitt “Dee” Alexander, Jr., 56 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away November 13, 2014 at Hospice of the Chesapeake, Harwood, MD after a 4-year battle with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Born October 7, 1958 in La Plata, MD, he was the son of William DeWitt Alexander, Sr. and Evelyn Marie Silvius. Dee worked as an Assistant Service Manager in the field of industrial water treatment for 33 years. He was a member of the Chaptico Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness, where he served for a while as a Ministerial Servant. Dee loved his family and he loved to spend time with them. He always looked forward to annual family trips to the Carolina beaches, and enjoyed golfing and fishing with friends. Dee dedicated his life to doing Jehovah’s will on November 2, 1996. From that day forward, he especially enjoyed giving his time and talents to working on the Regional Building Committee (RBC) as the Assistant Plumbing Overseer, building Kingdom Halls, places of worship for Jehovah’s Witnesses. He felt very strongly about Jehovah’s people having a place for worship in their communities and regions, and he spent many hours volunteering his time throughout the Washington, D.C. and Maryland regions on Kingdom […]

Born January 26, 1945 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Jonathan Bryant and Patricia Barbour Bryant. Jeanne did a lot of volunteer work with the Hughesville Baseball Association, and the Fredericksburg Hospice. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, travelling, gardening, cooking, and crafts. Pastel Sherwood “Pickle” Puffinberger, 85 of Leonardtown, MD, died on November 13, 2014 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, MD. Born on November 13, 1929, in Winchester, VA, he is the son of the late Grover Cleveland Puffinberger. Pickle had a long career as a talented carpenter. He also spent many years working in an orchard in West Virginia. He was a talented blue grass musician. He enjoyed playing the ukulele, banjo, mandolin, harmonica and guitar. He and his brothers often played together. He found much joy in playing music. He was always well dressed, and was an excellent cook who enjoyed gardening. He was an excellent card player. Most importantly he was a loving father, whom will be deeply missed. Grace Jackson Morris “Bebe” Gibson, 92 of Leonardtown, MD died Sunday, November 16th at her residence with her family by her side. She was born November 11, 1922 in Avenue, MD to the late Andrew Jackson Morris and Grace Catherine Hill Morris. She was the fifth daughter and baby of the family. The nickname “Baby” was quickly changed to “Bebe” at birth. She was always a lady and never lost the values she was taught by her wonderful mother. Bebe started high school at eleven years old. She graduated from Margaret Brent High School in 1938 and received the Good Citizenship Medal at graduation. She was granted two college scholarships; one to Western Maryland and one to St. Mary’s Seminary. She started college at 15 years old and attended Western Maryland College in Westminster, MD where she made many lifetime friends. Her nieces and nephews gave much joy and happiness to her as well as her many cherished relatives. Billie Lou Brown, 78 of California, MD passed away peacefully on November 16, 2014. Billie was born on January 3, 1936 in Crumpler, NC. On November 12, 1952, Billie married her loving husband, the late Marvin W Brown in Grassy Creek, NC. Together they celebrated 55 loving years of marriage before his passing in October 2008. In 1974 Marvin and Billie relocated to St. Mary’s County where she excelled in her career with the Department of the Navy. Billie started her career in the Material Management Department, moved into a position with Military Family Housing. She retired as the Director of Navy Housing for NAS Patuxent River in January 1998 after 29 total years of civilian service. She was the first female at NAS Patuxent River to receive the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service award for her exemplary support. She was also an active member of the Board of Commissioners for the St. Mary’s County Housing Authority from 1989 to 1997. Upon retirement Marvin and Billie traveled in their motor home to tour the United States. They later took up part time residence in Ocala, FL to enjoy their retirement in warmer weather. John “Jackie” Leroy Schwaner, 71 of Fort Washington, MD passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, MD. He was born on November 28, 1942 in Washington, D.C. to the late John Schwaner and the late Bessie Padgett Schwaner. Jackie worked for the Washington Post for over 40 years. He had a passion for trains and patriotism. Jackie played basketball and baseball as a youth. He was a volunteer member of the Accokeek Fire Department and a Marine Corp League member. Jackie enjoyed going to the movies and spending time with his family and friends. Jackie was a Navy Cross and Purple Heart recipient in Vietnam. James Robert “Jamie” Bacon, 46 of Hollywood, MD, died on November 18, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 15, 1968, in Washington, D.C., he is the son of Carol Lynn Garner Lancaster of Hollywood, MD and James Edward Bacon of Berkley Springs, WV. Jamie graduated from Clinton Christian High School in Upper Marlboro, MD. On January 3, 2009, he married his beloved wife, Jen in Williamsburg, VA. He was employed by Smartronix as an electronics technician. He was an avid wood worker with remarkable skill and talent. He only used hand crafted tools, many of which he made. He also built his own workshop, which was modeled after the colonial shoe shop in Williamsburg. He kept an active woodworking blog. Jamie designed many beautiful pieces, which includes dressers, mantels, shaker style wall clocks, bookcases, and doll house for his daughters. His most prized piece, which he was particularly proud of, was the Windsor Sack Back Chair that he just completed. He was born on February 22, 1947 in Washington, D.C., to the late Jerome Joseph Beuchert and the late Jessie Richards Beuchert. George worked as a Superintendent for Beuchert Excavating .
