Joseph S. Coelho, Sr. died on August 16, 2016. He was born in Madeira Island, Portugal, on December 19, 1928 and came to the US in 1946. After graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1953, he served in the US Army, stationed in both England and Germany. After the Army, he had a long and fulfilling career as an Electrical Engineer with Koppers (later ICF Kaiser), and was fortunate to have worked on international engineering projects which led he and his wife, Shirley, to job locations for two years in Bogotá, Colombia, and several projects in Portugal over a decade span. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley Ann Coelho (Koenig); his three children, Joseph Jr. of Vancouver, WA; Michael of Pittsburgh, PA; and Gina of Solomons, MD; as well as his sisters Ester Figueira of Pittsburgh, PA; and Maria Freitas of Cape Town, South Africa; and four grandchildren. There will be a private memorial service for the immediate family. Instead of flowers, donations should be sent in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association
