Born on February 17, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Mary Frances Alvey Graves and Charles Aubrey Graves. Audrey was the loving wife of the late James Aloysius Higgs, whom she married on October 24, 1953 and who preceded her in death in April, 2003. Audrey is survived by her children; James “Jimmy” Aloysius Higgs, Jr., Deborah (Debbie) Ann (Donnie) Johnson, Sandra Marie Higgs all of Hollywood, MD, grandchildren: Chastity Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Kyle Johnson (Sarah), Kara Higgs, Darryl Johnson (Cierra), Tyler Johnson, Christopher Litten, and Megan Burroughs and great grandchildren: Bailey Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, and Emma Johnson. John Walter Lacey, Sr. 88 of Chaptico, MD passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 16, 2016 at Hospice House in Callaway, MD. He was born on November 5, 1927 in Washington, DC and was the son of the late Walter Benjamin and Mary Ada (Quade) Lacey. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Estelle (Morgan) Lacey, whom he married on December 27, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Church in Morganza, MD. They shared 56 years of marriage before she passed on May 12, 2008. John attended Sacred Heart School in Bushwood, MD. He was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD where he worked as a tobacco farmer until 2000. While working as a tobacco farmer, he worked part time as an electrician/plumber assistant to Jim Cleaver and later with Penn Line and for McKay’s in Charlotte Hall, MD, from 1988 to 2007 as a maintenance/ grounds keeper. He was a lifetime parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he attended daily masses until he was unable to drive. Jean Elizabeth Lengel, 82, of California, MD, passed away June 15, 2016 at Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD, surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 5, 1933, in Ridge, MD, to the late Claude McKay and Beatrice Peacock. Jean was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County and graduated high school from St. Michael’s Catholic School. On February 21, 1952 she married her beloved husband, Francis Lengel in Ridge, MD. Together, they celebrated over 64 wonderful years of marriage. She enjoyed planting flowers, playing the slots machines, and was an avid BINGO player in Solomons, MD. She and her husband enjoyed trips to Canada and the Bahamas, but mostly preferred to stay near their family. She was an excellent cook and prepared many delicious meals, including the American Legion dinners. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Born August 28, 1924 in Warsaw, Virginia he was the son of the late William Smith Fones and Josephine Seigel. Weston honorably served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Norris was raised in Largo and attended public schools in Bladensburg. He was employed as a flooring mechanic, most recently with Weyers Floor Services Inc. in Odenton, retiring in 2014. Norris married Maryanna Jett December 3, 1960 and they made their home in Landover until moving to Huntingtown in 1976. They later moved to Capitol Heights where he has lived since 1991. In his leisure time Norris enjoyed doing word searches, crossword puzzles, gardening, raising tobacco, and spending time with family. Hubert “Ben” Bennett, 86, of Abell, MD passed away on July 2, 2016 at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, MD. Hubert was born on April 24, 1930 in Baxter, TN to the late Monroe Bennett and the late Adell Sherrell Bennett. Hubert grew up and attended school in Cookeville, TN. Hubert joined the Marines in 1951 and served until 1959. He was a proud Marine and a veteran of the Korean War. After serving in the Marines, Hubert made his home in Abell, MD where he became a member of the 7th district American Legion. He was the owner of Ben’s Chevron Mechanic Shop in the 70’s & 80’s. After retiring as a mechanic he worked at Mattingly’s IGA as a gas attendant until they closed. He loved to entertain family and friends and play cards. Ronald Clement Delahay, Sr. 76 of Leonardtown, MD died peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital on July 7, 2016 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Ronnie was born on August 3, 1939 in his family home located in Compton, MD. He was the son of the late Joseph Richley Delahay and Marguerite Virginia (Moore) Delahay. Ronnie grew up with his late brother, James Kenneth Delahay and 6 cousins on his family’s boatyard in Compton, MD. Ronnie would often reminisce about his school days and lifelong friends from Saint Mary’s Academy and later joined the National Guard. He was honorably discharged as an SSG in 1965. In early years, Ronnie was an oysterman and was proud to be a Captain of the Samuel M. Bailey buy boat. Ronnie and his brother Kenny went on to operate Delahay’s Pile Driving Service and were charter members of the Saint Mary’s County Waterman’s Association. They continued to run Delahay’s Boatyard after the death of their father and later opened Little Ronnie’s Seafood, which later became Dock of the Bay and Fitzie’s Marina. John George Etzel, ”Jack”, 89 of St. Leonard, Maryland passed away on July 7, 2016 in St. Leonard, Maryland. He was born on March 8, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Charles J. and Johanna Dosch Etzel. Jack served in the Army overseas in Italy from January 1946 until his honorable discharge on April 6, 1947. After his discharge he went to work for the Department of Defense Weather Bureau and NASA as an Electronic Technician. He attended St. Joseph Seminary in Washington DC for Diaconate Formation and was Ordained June 14, 1975. Jack served for over 40 years for the Archdiocese of Washington DC, first at St. Elizabeth’s in Rockville, MD and then Our Lady Star of the Sea in Solomons, MD until his death. He was the faithful husband of 45 years to Julie Sweeney Cronan, the loving father to Philip (Genevieve), Christa, and Catherine (Andrew), and devoted grandfather to nine beautiful grandchildren. He was the beloved son of the late John and Marion McSweeney Gilroy, and the loyal brother of the late Jacqueline, late Dorothy, Philip, John, and Thomas. Wayne was born March 3, 1965 in Leonardtown MD to Catherine Ann Butler and the late James Vincent Butler Jr. Wayne was educated in the St. Mary’s County Public School system. After school he began working as a cook at various restaurants. The one he enjoyed most was “The Roost” in Lexington Park MD. His last place of employment was Nicolletti’s Pizza in California MD before becoming disabled. Robert Allen “Chicken Bob” Wathen 85, of Faulkner Maryland, passed away on July 9, 2016. He was born on June 4, 1931 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to the late James Leo Wathen and the late Mary Louise Wathen. Bob was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1952 after serving time in France and Germany. He was employed as a mechanic and also as a security guard for Wells Fargo with the rank of Sargent. Bob enjoyed reading, following the stock market, and was a long time member of the VFW in Bel Alton Maryland. Linda Clark Lothrop, 77, of Leonardtown, MD passed away from complications due to Huntington’s disease on July 9, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Linda was born July 10, 1938 to the late George Clark and Angeline McGraw Clark and grew up in Seattle, WA. Linda started her professional life at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Tacoma, WA, as a member of the class of 1959. Upon graduation Linda joined the US Army Nurse Corps and served as a dedicated registered nurse until her Honorable Discharge in 1964 as a Captain. In 1962, she married her beloved husband Fred in Basel, Switzerland. Together they celebrated over 53 wonderful years of marriage. They travelled throughout the world as she supported his military career. One of their favorite destinations was Hawaii where they were stationed for four years. Linda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who made family her top priority. She enjoyed the beach, listening to NPR, staying proactive in current events. Brenda was born January 21, 1954, in Leonardtown, MD to Arlene Pickell Tennison of Leonardtown, MD and the late H. Leland Tennison. In 1972 Brenda began her career with the Department of Defense and retired after over 26 years of dedicated service as a Supervisor of Contracts in 1998.
