Effie Elizabeth Payne, 92, of White Plains, formerly of Prince Frederick, MD passed away on October 13, 2017 at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center. She was born September 28, 1925 in Washington, DC to Henry Elmer and Ollie Marie (Long) Lewis. Effie was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed crafts, cooking and spending time with her family. She was famous for her homemade yeast rolls and honeybuns. She spent hours in recent years with her adult coloring books. She was a former member of AL anon. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren J. Payne, Sr., two brothers and two sisters. Effie is survived by two daughters Sandra Brady and her husband William “Sonny” of Prince Frederick and Elizabeth “Betty” Felder and her husband Harry of West River; four sons Warren Payne, Jr. and his wife Linda of Pinellas Park, FL, James Payne and his wife Carmel of Annapolis, Richard Payne and his wife Mary of White Plains and Mark Payne of Bishopville; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was the son of Rita Sue and James Richard Harding, Sr. of Mechanicsville, MD. In addition to his parents Brian is survived by his children: Logan Taylor Harding, Cecilia Elise Harding and Eve Rhiannon Harding all of Ashburn, VA, siblings: James Richard Harding, Jr. of Mechanicsville, MD, Vernon Andrew Harding of Mechanicsville, MD Kristy Diane Harding of Compton, MD and Roby Lynn Harding of Mechanicsville, MD. Brian was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, he graduated from Chopticon High School in 1993. He was a carpenter. Brian was an avid reader of the Wolverine Comics, he liked making handcrafts and other unique items. James Richard “Dickie” Graves of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at his home in Mechanicsville, MD. Born on September 10, 1938 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Francis Wilmer Graves and Cora (Ryce) Graves. In addition to his father, he was reared by his aunt and uncle, Eunice and Sydney Turner, and loved as a brother by their children ( Jimmy, Mary Helen, and Jerry). He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Diane Louise (Chescavage) Graves and daughter, Jennifer Lynn Ford of Mechanicsville, MD. Also survived by one sister, Betty Jean Davailus of White Deer, Pa; “brothers” James A. Turner (Catherine, Sidney J. Turner (Nancy) ; and “sister” Mary Helen Tippett, all of Mechanicsville, MD. He was predeceased in death by his brother, Francis W. Graves, Jr. Dickie graduated from LaPlata High School in 1957 and was an insurance salesman for Peoples Security Insurance for 30 years. Nette Maria Schou, 55, of Leonardtown, MD died on Monday, October 9, 2017 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD. Born on August 1, 1962 in Rosered, Sweden, she is the daughter of Lillemor Skytting Schou of Mount Pleasant, SC and the late Thorkil Schou. Nette was born and raised in Sweden. She was athletic and a horse enthusiast since age 10. As an animal lover she had many horses, with her latest horse being Soraya, whom she owned from birth. She was also the owner of Soraya’s mother, Angelica as well as her horse she rode competitively, Caprina. She proudly trained under three different Olympic Gold Medalists in the US and Sweden. She loved her six cats, pot belly pig, mini dachshund, Daisy and her horses. She was an avid skier and ice skater. She was musically inclined and enjoyed playing the flute and the piano. In 1981 she moved from Sweden to Virginia. In 1986, she graduated from George Mason University, earning of Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Gisela Mayer, 60, of Leonardtown, MD died on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born May 24, 1957 in Los Angeles, CA, she is the daughter of the late Juan Bautista Mayer and Margarita Ida Siegrist Mayer. Gisela Mayer was a strong, radiant, beautiful and generous woman who lived her life to serve others and most importantly, serve God. There aren’t words enough to describe the incredible person she was and will always be. She was adored by all who knew her. Gisela is survived by her children: Margarita Ramos, Marcos Ramos, and Alex Ramos of Leonardtown, MD; her siblings, Patricia Mayer of Buenos Aires, Argentina and Alex Mayer of Washington, DC, and many extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Drew Royals at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 29119 Point Lookout Road, Morganza, MD 20660. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD. Ida Elizabeth “Bessie” Gray, 97, of Chaptico, MD, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Ida was born October 7, 1920, in Budds Creek, MD, to the late Joseph Dixie Hill and Ida Catherine (Thompson) Hill. Ida attended “the little pink school house” in Budds Creek, but had to leave in high school to help work on the family farm. On November 25, 1937 she married Albert Joseph Gray, who proceeded her in death on March 13, 1967. Ida was a wife, mother, sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Great-Grandmother. Ida was known as “Bessie” and also as “Grandma Gray.” Ida loved flowers, her yard was full of beautiful flowers, which she was able to water and tend to until the age of 95, then she told her family how to take care of them for her. She enjoyed card parties, bingo, dancing, yard sales, walking and her “wood burning stove, she was known to have a large wood pile in her yard. Ida also babysat for many of her grandchildren. Snookum’s is survived by his children; Becky Stallings (Randy) of Mechanicsville, MD, Katie Wood of Mechanicsville, MD, and 8 grandchildren. Siblings; Charles Joseph Wood of Abell, MD, Barbara Ann Wathen of Mechanicsville, MD, Richard Edward Wood of Mechanicsville, MD. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Mary Margaret Tarleton, Kitty Clarke, and Francis Greenwell Wood. He was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident. Snookum’s was a building service worker for the Maryland State Highway Administration for 27 years, retiring in August, 2007. AKC Thomas Lee Cyrus, Sr., USN (Ret.) 79, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. He was born in Ray, OH on September 12, 1938 to the late Eldon Ulysses and Ethel (Rader) Cyrus. On July 28, 1961, Thomas married his beloved wife, Kiyoka Cyrus in Fukuoka, Japan who preceded him in death on March 29, 2002. Thomas is survived by his children; Teresa L. Emmart (Thomas) of Mechanicsville, MD and Thomas L. Cyrus, Jr. of St. Inigoes, MD; his grandchildren, Natalie Paige and Meredith Brooke Emmart. In addition to his parents and wife, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, William Lacy Cyrus Sr. and Marvin Cyrus. In June 1956, Thomas enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country until his retirement in October 1974 as a Chief Aviation Storekeeper. Norma Tucker, 75 of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away at her residence in Mechanicsville, MD on October 14, 2017. Norma was born on January 15, 1942 in Camp Springs, MD to the late Joseph A. Moffett and the late Agnes Louise Thorne. Norma married Thomas Stephen Tucker on July 9, 1960 in Oxon Hill, MD. Norma enjoyed painting pictures, bowling and playing cards. She loved animals. Norma was homemaker. In addition to her parents, Norma was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Stephen Tucker, her son William B. Tucker, her grand-daughter Danielle Griffin, her brother Arthur Moffet (Chubby), and her sister Patricia Barlow (Patsy) . She is survived by her children Thomas W. Tucker, David A. Dahl; Joanna M. On Sunday, October 15, 2017, Joseph Benjamin Wegand of Charlotte Hall, MD entered the eternal rest of Jesus our Lord. He is survived by his loving wife Victoria Wegand, daughter Joanne Shannon, son-in-law Scott Shannon, and grandchildren Robert (RJ) and Tori Shannon. He is survived by brothers Frederick, David and John and sisters, Patricia Geishecker and Carolyn Orlowski, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Joe enjoyed life to the fullest and will be forever loved and missed by his many friends and family. Burial will be private.

Johnson and the late Mary Cleaveland Johnson. Gale was a Mortgage Loan Processor prior to her retirement in 2011. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and attending all of their sporting events. She adored animals, especially her pets. Cora Viola Norris, 78, of Leonardtown, MD died on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 10, 1939 in Great Mills, MD, she is the daughter of the late George Clayton Russell and Rose Alice Suite Russell. Cora was born and raised in St. Mary’s County. She owned and operated an in home daycare for over 20 dedicated years, where she cared for and loved many children. She was fondly known as “Mommy Norris.” After retiring from daycare she worked at the St. Mary’s Nursing Center and later at Piney Point Elementary School in the cafeteria until she retired in 2007. She was a member of REACT for St. Mary’s County. On May 30, 1981, she married her beloved husband, Larry Eugene Norris under an old oak tree in Leonardtown, MD. Together they celebrated over 36 wonderful years of marriage. She was an avid softball player with over 30 years of play for St. Mary’s County leagues. Adam was a steamfitter with the Local 602 Steamfitters Union where he graduated from UA Mechanical Trade School with high marks. He was a member of Old Durham Episcopal Church. He loved hunting, fishing, his Chevy truck, his dogs (named Fancy and Ava), his tractor, country music. and his work with the Local 602 Union. He liked being his family, especially his two girls. He was the son of John Daniel McGraw and Rhonda Mae Thompson McGraw. In addition to his father, he was also predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Finis and Ann McGraw. Michael “Mike” John Rabasco, III, 61, of Indian Head, MD passed away on October 17, 2017 at Ft. Washington Hospital. Mike was born on May 2, 1956 in White Plains, NY to Rose Marie Carrigan and the late Michael John Rabasco, Jr. Mike loved his family especially his wife and grandchildren who were the light of his life. He loved his late English bulldog and of recent his German Shepherd and enjoyed his goldfish and fish pond. He was a devoted Washington Redskins fan. He was a mechanic, having many tools and each had its place and he would know if any were missing or out of place. He had a tow truck which was passed down from his father and a 1954 Chevy. Christopher Ryan Gates, 29, of Huntingtown, MD passed away October 12, 2017 at home. He was born November 29, 1987 in Clinton, MD to Raymond Frederick and Deborah Kay (Allenbaugh) Gates. He graduated from Huntingtown High School and Graham Webb Academy of Hair. Christopher was employed as a hair stylist. He had a joy for volunteering at homeless shelters and his beautiful soul will be remembered by many. Surviving are his parents Ray and Debbie Gates of Huntingtown; maternal grandmother Germaine Malachinski of Greentown, IN; maternal great grandmother Juliette Toulotte of Tampa, FL; aunts Colette Grigsby and her husband Wayne of Solomons, MD and Eileen Fowler and her husband James of Dunkirk, MD; uncles Randy Allenbaugh and his wife Deborah of Arvada, CO and Andrew Malachinski and his wife Gina of McKinney, TX. Leonard Fabian Hanson, 96, of Upper Marlboro passed away October 16, 2017. He was born August 12, 1921 in Custer County, NE to Swedish immigrants John Edwin and Sophia (Nelson) Hanson. Leonard was raised in Wild Horse Valley, NE and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1941. Following high school, Leonard attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for a few months before getting drafted into the United States Army in December of 1941. Leonard served during WWII as a bomber pilot and was stationed in England. He survived 31 missions and was awarded the Bronze Star and Air Medal during his time in the war. Leonard was honorably discharged in 1945 and went back to the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1948. Following his graduation, he re-enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Korea. Leonard remained on active duty until 1957 and was on reserve until his retirement in 1969 as Lieutenant Colonel. Leonard married Carlotta Randolph in 1956 and they moved to Maryland in 1968. On Friday, October 13, 2017, the Lord called His beloved son, Biff Ringgold, to be home with Him. Biff was born April 10, 1954 to Mae Carr and Norman Ringgold of Baltimore, Maryland (both preceding him in death). As the last born of 10 children, he was always surrounded by family and love. In 1978, He met the love of his life, Cynthia. Biff and Cynthia were married, and from this union came two children, Darius and Nikki (Dominica). Biff spent his life educating all that would listen. His knowledge of the law and fair treatment of people was a passion of his, and that passion did not go unnoticed. He also had a heart for the homeless as he himself experienced homelessness. His passion for this community was evident in his life as he would frequently share his knowledge of the various programs that existed to assist those effected by homelessness, and he would constantly encourage those in need to put the programs and services to use.
