Cheryl Ann Lucas, age 70 of White Plains, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017. She was the daughter of BettyAnn (Dusenberry) Dix and John A. Dix, Sr. She is the oldest of two siblings and graduated from Suitland High School in Suitland, Maryland, growing up in Morningside, Maryland. Cheryl married Allen J. Lucas of Marlow Heights, Maryland at Mount Calvary Catholic Church on March 21, 1970. They lived in Suitland until moving to Charles County in 1971. Cheryl was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and was known as Aunt Pee Wee by many. She lived a Christian life with service to others. She was a volunteer with Charles County Meals on Wheels and Lifestream Nazarene Children’s Lunch Program. She and her good friend, Darlene, made and provided warm colorful hats for cancer patients while going through her own cancer treatments. She also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pomfret, Maryland. Cheryl had a loving heart for all and was kind, humble, and considerate. Stephen “Steve” Rigelsky, age 69 of Waldorf, Maryland, died November 2, 2017 at his residence with Hospice. Stephen was a real estate developer with Castle Management. He was the son of Joseph William Rigelsky and Madeline Dorry Rigelsky and was married for 50 years to Sharon Lynn Rigelsky. A family-directed memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Steve’s name are asked to AA or Charles County Humane Society.

Oscar Samuel Collins of Nanjemoy and Clinton, MD, and Jolo, WVA, passed away November 5, 2017. He was 78. He was preceded in death by his parents Morris Collins and Ora Bell Smith Collins; wife, Carolyn Shackelford Collins; sisters, Magdelene (Mag) Hudler and Margaret Herron; and his brothers, Rev. Henry Lee, Bud Andrew, Jack Donald (Don), and Morris Harold Collins. He is survived by his three children Carol Faye Albany, Russell Samuel Morris Collins, and Oscar David Collins; three grandchildren Shannon Lee Collins, Owen David Collins, and Kasen Lee Collins; four brothers Dillard, Jarvis Patton (Pat), Harold (Pete), and Chester Collins; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, in laws, extended family and friends. Oscar was a United States Air Force Veteran and served in France and Germany. After honorable discharge from the military, he joined the Carpenters Union and worked for the Joint Carpentry Apprenticeship Committee, where he served as a Trade’s instructor for the majority of his career until retirement. Llewellyn “Lew” Robertson Barrett, Jr., age 56 of La Plata, Maryland, died November 8, 2017. Lew was a Drywall Installer for 25 plus years with construction companies and attended New Life Wesleyan Church in La Plata, Maryland. He liked to fish, drink, play cards, tinkering, and his dogs. He most liked making people laugh. He was the son of Llewellyn R. Barrett, Sr. and Norma Elizabeth Branble Barrett. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Patricia Ann Barrett. He is survived by his sisters, Norma Jean Doelger (Richard) and Christine Witter (James); his nephews, Kevin Hagy, Robert Doelger, Brian Doelger, Jeffrey Townsend; his niece, Abigail Witter; his great nephew, Brandon Hagy; and his great nieces, Trisha Hagy, Taylor Hagy, and April Hagy. Friends received on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 10AM until time of Wake Service at 11AM, officiated Fr. Michael Briese, at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Edwin “Ed” Mearl Grumbling, 77

Edwin “Ed” Mearl Grumbling, age 77 of La Plata, Maryland, died November 8, 2017 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland. Ed was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he sang in the Air Force chorus, known as the Singing Sergeants during the early 1960’s. He worked as a Supervisor for 37 years for PEPCO and later worked 16 years with the Charles County Board of Education in Special Education and was a member of First Baptist Church of La Plata. He was the son of Clyde Clifford Grumbling and Violet Grace Teeter Grumbling. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Alvin Grumbling. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Cox Grumbling; his daughter, Christine E. Boswell (Jay); his brothers, Raymond and Ronald Grumbling; his sisters, Elverda Rambsel and Dorothy Spring; and his grandchild, Logan. Memorials in Ed’s name are asked to the First Baptist Church of La Plata, 9070 Hawthorne Road, La Plata, Maryland 20646.

Robert E. Kendrick, Jr., of Waldorf, died on November 10, 2017 at the age of 101. Mr. Kendrick was a Retired Banker. Robert was husband of the late Ellen Graham Kendrick. He was also preceded in death by one son, Alan J. Kendrick, Sr. and one brother, Eldridge D. Kendrick. Robert is survived by one son, Robert E. Kendrick, III and wife Carol; one daughter, Mary Ellen Huff and husband Richard; one brother, John H. Kendrick; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Horace Carlbert Wiggins, age 80, passed away on November 7, 2017 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. He was born on November 4, 2017 in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Horace was a Senior Maintenance Mechanic and Operating Engineer with George Washington University for 39 years. He was also a professional wedding photographer. During his spare time, he loved to travel, exercise, and spend time with his family. He is survived by his wife, daughter, grandchildren, brother, sister, and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 10:30 to 12:30pm at The Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, Maryland where funeral service will begin at 12:30pm. Ms. Sybelline “Shene” S.B. Bowie died peacefully on November 8, 2017 in Gainesville, Virginia at the age of 96. Shene is survived by Her Nephew Keenan Bayol, His wife Vicki Bayol, Children Ryan, Heather, and Dustin. of Haymarket, Virginia along with many friends from Indian Head Maryland where she spent most of her life. Shene is preceded in death by her husbands Keenan Charles (Casy) Boyer, and James Mattingly Bowie of Indian Head Maryland. Sybelline Sledge was born on October 19, 1921 in Louisburg, North Carolina to Walter Ernest Sledge and Nonie Lillian Parresh. She was one of nine children. Visitation will be held Wednesday November 15, 2017 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road Waldorf, MD. Funeral is scheduled for 11:45 am Thursday November 16, 2017 at St. James Episcopal Church in Indian Head, Maryland , with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Shene’s life. On Saturday November 11, 2017 Jennifer Lynn Williamson passed away peacefully after a strong battle to cancer. Jennifer was born on September 27, 1976 to Carol Owens and the late Ronald Williamson. Jennifer attended Charles County public schools and Graduated from Thomas Stone High School. Jennifer loved to spend time with family and friends, watching The Voice, Family Feud and summer vacations to Myrtle Beach. Jennifer worked as a personnel manager at Bj’s Wholesale Club where she had the ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. Jennifer leaves behind a sister Bridget Williamson, two brothers Dwayne and Derek Marshall, a loving stepfather Wesley Marshall and Her Fiancé’ Gamaliel Savoy. Visitation will be Friday November 17, 2017 from 11AM-1PM at Huntt Funeral Home in Waldorf, MD. Funeral Service will follow at 1PM

Peter Michael Sotirakis, 81, of Owings passed away November 6, 2017 at his residence. He was born December 29, 1935 in Baltimore, MD to Mike and Ida Mae (Williams) Sotirakis. Pete was raised in Baltimore and graduated from Southern High School in 1954. Pete worked at his father’s restaurant on Light Street and later attended Eastern College. He honorably served in the Army of the United States from 1958 to 1960. He was employed with Mass Transit Administration as a bus driver and later a Light Rail Operator, retiring in 1997. Pete moved to Calvert County in 1969, where he lived until his passing. Pete enjoyed maintaining a healthy lifestyle and was dedicated to staying active and fit. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very proud of his Greek heritage, leaving behind stories passed down from the early 1900’s. Pete will be remembered as an intelligent, interesting and selfless man. Pete is survived by his children Ida Mae Holcomb and husband John of Browns Mills, NJ, Amy Requilman and husband Eddy of St. Leonard and Kay Height and husband Kevin of Lexington Park, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Ernest (Cleo) Tolley was born in Vicars, West Virginia on March 15, 1936. He entered Heaven’s Gates November 7, 2017. After graduating high school at Walton High School in 1955, he went on to Charleston School of Commerce and studied accounting and business. Cleo joined the Army, where he served in Korea. After completing his military career, he moved to Washington DC for a job opportunity where he met the love of his life, Judy. Cleo and Judy married on October 31, 1964. Cleo and his family moved from Washington DC in 1971 to Calvert County, MD. It was then he started his business, Super Janitorial Services, which he successfully operated with his partner and family until he retired in 2016. Cleo was a devoted member of Huntingtown United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Huntingtown, Maryland. His Church and Legion family could always count on him to help out in anyway and entertain them with his jokes and witty humor. Cleo was always smiling. Rufina “Penny” Rabanal Taguding Dreisbach, 86, of District Heights, MD passed away on November 3, 2017. Born on August 24, 1931 in the Philippines to the late Fortunato Rabanal and Leona Ilaga. Rufina enjoyed being with her large family, especially loving on her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking-especially Filipino cuisine and her popular Lumpia eggrolls- and encouraging all to eat, gardening and sewing custom clothing for her children when they were younger as documented in many earlier family Christmas photos. Rufina was a very caring childcare provider before retiring. She was a part of the VFW 5471 Womens Auxillary. She volunteered with The American Red Cross, the Andrews Air Force Base Catholic Chapel and was a parishioner at St. Phillips Catholic Church. Rufina is predeceased by her late husbands, Robert Eugene Dreisbach and Bonifacio Maligsay Taguding, and siblings Juanita, Gabriel, Severina and Pablo. Rufina is survived by her children, Bob, Art, Gloria, Val, Debbie, Joey, John, Shirley, Mary, Gary, and Cindy, siblings Catalina, Tomas and Cecelia, 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchldren. Ferdinand J. Amthor (Fred), 84, of Ft. Washington, MD passed peacefully during the late afternoon hours of November 6, 2017 at the home of his son with both of his children present. Born in Ft. Worth, TX, oldest of the three children to Thelma Catherine (Sacks) Amthor and Ferdinand Paul Amthor. At the age of 8, his family moved to SE Washington , DC . Fred attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary, St. Charles College Seminary and Gonzaga High School College. He was drafted into the US Army in July 1953. He was honorably discharged in 1955 with a National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and Good Conduct Medal. His most significant duty assignment was in France, 821st ENGR AVN BN. Prior to being drafted, Fred met Peggy Jean Frisby. Throughout his tour of duty he and Peggy exchanged letters and upon his return, dated until they married in June 1958. After his discharge, Fred worked as an elevator installer and bartender while also going to school at Georgetown University. Richard Oliver Tucker, 70, of Upper Marlboro, MD passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017. Born to the late Mary Agnes (Windsor) and John Oliver Tucker, he was one of nine children. Richard worked for Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation for 27 years as an Auto Equipment Operator. He enjoyed being outside doing yard work and gardening. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His family described him as a stubborn but, a comical man. A very loving father and Pop Pop. Also, he was a devoted Ford man and loved the Washington Redskins. Christopher Michael Napier of Huntingtown, MD, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the age of 34. He was born in Cheverly, MD, on July 24, 1983, to Kathryn Napier and Mark Lewnes. Christopher graduated from the University of Maryland with a B. S. degree and from North Carolina State with a Masters degree in mechanical engineering. He was employed as a mechanical engineer working for Nav Air at Pax River Naval Air Station. He enjoyed playing his guitar, traveling, cars and working on anything mechanical. Along with his mother, he is survived by his brother Timothy Baumgardner and sister April Ortega. He was the grandson of Ruby Napier and husband of Linda [Ronniger] Napier. Guy L. Gray, Jr., “Bush” of Temple Hills, MD passed on November 10, 2017 at the age of 86. Born in Washington, DC the son of Winnie Mattie and Guy L. Gray, Sr. Guy grew up in the District attending Anacostia High School. He was inducted into the US Marines in April 1952 and honorably discharged in April 1954, earning the National Defense Service Medal. He worked at the Gulf Oil Gasoline station as an automobile mechanic. In 1960, Guy attended the police academy and became a Metropolitan Police Officer for the 2nd District of Columbia. His police career led him to meet many dignitaries and celebrities such as President Kennedy, Bob Hope, Linda Blair and Robert Mitcham. Since his mainly worked traffic control, Guy could often be found directing traffic at Georgetown University, so much that the college students drew cartoon characters of him in their newspapers. He also worked the 7th & 11th District and the Key Bridge areas. His fellow officers called him “Bush” and considered him an extraordinary, honorable man. Terry L. Lochstamphfor, 75, of Lusby, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her family. Born in Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John and Edith Tripoli. Terry primarily worked in the advertising field for both the local newspapers, magazine and radio. She was so creative and thoroughly enjoyed being with people. She also shared her unconditional love with all who entered her life and leaves behind a long list of friends from many states and counties she has lived in over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lochstamphfor. Leonard Joseph Kwiatkoski, Sr., 86, of Broomes Island, peacefully passed away after a short illness November 11, 2017. Len was born in Riggsville, MI, on November 21, 1930 to Anthony Kwiatkoski and Florence Shea Kwiatkoski. Len joined served with the Army Corps of Engineers and spent time in Europe and US. After the military Len worked various jobs as project manager, foreman, superintendent of construction. Len bought a marina in 1971 which he owned and operated for years, never advertising. Len’s Marina started out small but over the years and with the partnership of his son expanded to what is now a popular and growing marina. Len retired from the marina business, however never left. The marina was always his heart, soul, pride and joy. Len is survived by his loving partner Marie Otley, Janice Kwiatkoski, brother Ralph and his wife Debby, sons Dennis (Bub) and partner Paula Tucker, Lenny and his wife Shannon, 9 grandchildren Jessica, Bambi, Samantha, Billy, Reza, James, Ryan, Ty and Mia, and 8 great grandchildren Bailey, Carley, Nateley, Camryn, Karleigh, Finley, Dominic and Ashton.
