Donald “Don” Edward Fellows, 75, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on November 13, 2017. Born on August 16, 1942 in Los Angeles, CA, he was the son of the late Stella M. Obohowski Fellows and Edward N. Fellows, whom gave Don the nickname “Duck”. The family moved to Hopedale, OH where Don’s formative years were spent. He graduated from Hopedale High School in 1960. With his humble origins and strong work ethic, Don joined the United States Air Force and attended Air Force School from December 26, 1960 to May of 1961. On July 11, 1965, Don married Judith M. Fellows in Bloomingdale, OH. While serving in the Air Force, he successfully completed the Ang NCO Academy in February 28, 1974. He earned the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and Air Force Longevity Service Award. After the Air Force, Don joined the Reserves while working in Civil Service where he was stationed at Andrew’s Air Force Base. Don attended University of Virginia and also graduated from the College of Southern Maryland during this time. Joseph Henry Friess, Sr. “Joe Boy”, 79, of Colton’s Point, MD passed away on November 11, 2017 in Avenue, MD. Born on March 10, 1938, he was the son of the late Dorothy Elizabeth Coook Friess and Henry Irving Friess. Joseph was the loving husband of Cordia Long Friess, whom he married on April 19, 1958. Joe Boy is survived by his children; Betty Johnson of Huntingtown, MD, Joseph Friess, Jr. of Colton’s Point, MD, David Friess of Dover, DE, grandchildren; Jessica Johnson, Tim Johnson, Alyssa Friess, David Friess, Jr, and Maria Friess. Siblings; Henry Friess, Jr, and Mary Lou Jarrell. He was preceded in death by his son Ernie Friess, and sister Doris Oliver. He worked for the St. Mary’s County Board of Education as a Boiler Mechanic for 16 years, retiring in 2002. As well as, working as an auto body mechanic for Guy Chevrolet in Clements and Mechanicsville, MD for over 22 years. He was a Founding Member of St. Anne’s Anglican Church. Frances Redmon Robertson, 92, of Bel Alton, MD passed away on November 11, 2017 at her residence. Frances was born on June 30, 1925 in Leaksville, NC to the late Numa David and Bertha Elmina Redmon. Frances took most pride in being a homemaker and raising her four children. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Waldorf, MD and the Waldorf Lioness Club. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Ophus L. Robertson, Jr.; one brother, N.D. Redmon; three sisters, Velma Newnam, Ethel Ray and Helen Parker. Frances is survived by her four children, Ophus L. Robertson, III, Numa D. Robertson (Marise), Lei R. Culp (Martin) and Merri Dawn Morgan (Glenn); seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers; Harold Redmon and Wilford Redmon and several nieces and nephews. Memorial gathering will be on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646 from 11:00AM until time of Service at 12:30PM. Jack Alan Sherman, 81 of Myrtle Beach, SC formerly of La Plata, MD passed away on November 13, 2017. Jack was born on June 13, 1936 in Ohio to the late Emmet and Edna Sherman. Jack served in the United States Marine Corp. He worked as a contract specialist for the Federal Government. He was an enthusiast of all sports and loved all animals. He and his wife spent their retirement years in Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sister Barbara Potts. Jack is survived by his wife Dolores; five children; Keith (Leslie), Mark (Terri), Glenn (Elana), Terry and Kristen; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A gathering of friends will be on Monday, November 20, 2017 from 11:00AM until time of service at 12:30PM at Accokeek Volunteer Fire Department, 1611 Livingston Road, Accokeek, MD 20607. Kenneth Chih-Sung Kan, 65 of Waldorf, Maryland. Born October 21, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan, Kenneth left his loving family on November 11, 2017. In 1974, he obtained a BA in History at the University of Michigan, MA in History at Western Michigan University in 1976, and a Ph.D. in American History at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1983. While he was still a doctoral candidate, he was invited as a guest at a meeting with the history faculty of the Sichuan University when his family visited his parents’ native country, China, in 1981 – a rare honor given to a U.S. citizen at that time. Upon his graduation, he joined the history program of the Historical Services of the Air Force Reserve Command at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia as Staff Historian. Subsequently, his assignments took him to Ramstein Air Base, Germany and later to the Air Force Historical Studies Office in Washington, DC. His assignments concerned research involving significant events and activities of the U.S. Air Force. Mary Madeline Ford was called home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Madeline (as she was known by those who loved her) was born in Charles County, Maryland on April 28, 1921 to the late Walter and Cora (Yates) Thomas. She was raised and attended Charles County Public Schools. She worked 14 years at Southern Maryland Cleaners before retiring full time to do what she loved – being a wife and mom. Madeline loved good food and socializing and enjoyed shopping and playing cards with friends. She had a wonderful smile that could light up a room and from the moment you met her she considered you family. Her house was the place to be. Her home was always open and there was always food and fellowship waiting – regardless of time of day or night. She had an uncanny ability to remember the smallest detail of events as far as anyone could remember. She still had that great memory and ability to tell a story until her final days. Bruce “Pops” Whetstine, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home on November 13, 2017 in Helen, Maryland. Bruce was born September 6, 1940 in Washington DC. His father, Olice, was a Trolley Car Operator and his mother, Mary W, a Homemaker. After a brief time in the Army, he began his working career as a mechanic and bus driver at Atwood Bus Co. He then trained to become a Heavy Machinery Mechanic for Hutchinson Bros Construction. Shortly after meeting Mary Lynn, they wed and moved with her two children, Ginny and Jimmy, to Forest Heights, MD. Soon after, they were blessed with a set of twins, Dorothy and Daniel. Bruce then began his career as a Building Engineer in D.C. A few years later they moved to St Mary’s County to provide their young family access to a better Educational System and a rural home life. He retired after more than 30 years as a Building Engineer. Retirement did not suit Bruce, so he asked his son if he could be of any use to him at Hawkins Glass, which he obliged. James A. Nagy, an aerospace engineer who specialized in spacecraft vibrations, died on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Cedar Lane Senior Living Center in Leonardtown, MD. He was 89 years old. Jim retired from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in 1978 after 17 years at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. His first six years were spent measuring vibrations on NASA’s launch vehicles and he successfully made vibration measurements that had previously been elusive. He was then involved with the spacecraft vibration testing where his research showed the damaging effect of a vibration measurement problem called base strain that had been plaguing the testers for decades. Jim also led a team that solved a vibration problem on the Apollo program. Jim began his career at The Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company in 1955 where he was involved with the static testing of Martin aircraft and the Titan missile. He later transferred to the vibration lab where he tested missile systems including the Vanguard. He also tested the SNAP nuclear generator. Dr. Kannarkat Pappachen Verghese, 81, of Leonardtown, MD passed away November 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 10, 1936 in India to the late Kannarkat J. Pappachen and Prestina Chalissery. Dr. Verghese dedicated over 58 years of loving care and professionalism to many patients as a medical doctor specializing in allergy and immunology until his retirement in August 2014. On July 15, 1968 he married his beloved wife, Dr. Annie P. Verghese in India. They celebrated over 49 wonderful years of marriage. His hobbies included playing tennis, swimming, gardening and travelling with his wife throughout the world. He was a devoted family man, and deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and nieces and nephews. John Francis Thomas Sr., 78 , also known as “Pete” and “Peter Rabbit” of Loveville, MD passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 29, 1938, in Leonardtown, MD to the late James Andrew and Annie Elizabeth (Marshall) Thomas. Pete was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. He was the Chief Custodian at Banneker Elementary School for over 30 years of dedicated service until his retirement in 2002. He was also employed by B & B Maintenance for more than 30 years and was still working part-time at the time of his death. He and his wife, Mary Loretta, celebrated over 55 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in January 2016. He enjoyed watching wrestling and drag racing with his brother, Joseph Thomas and having a cold beer with his sister, Elizabeth. Charles Edward Aud Sr., 71, of Great Mills died Nov. 10, 2017, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Charles was born Jan. 12, 1946, in Great Mills, the son of Matthew Clarence Aud and Dorothy Schindler Aud. He attended Great Mills High School and worked during his younger years for Winters Sheet Metal, Cullison Sheet Metal and J&T Homes before starting his own company in June 1972. Mr. Aud was the founder and president of Great Mills Heating & Air Conditioning. He also enjoyed working on the family farm on Flat Iron Road, where he grew tobacco, soybeans, corn, and more recently raised feeder cattle. In addition to being a home builder, he had various other business ventures. He was rarely seen without his canine sidekick, Phineas. Charles took great joy in making two trips to Haiti to help with recovery efforts after the 2010 earthquake. During his first trip to Haiti with a local church group he helped rebuild a school. Will passed from this life on the evening of November 10th after a decline in health. He was born in Middleburg, North Carolina but has spent the majority of his life in the Maryland area with his last residence being in Port Tobacco. He served in the United States Air Force for 23 years and retired as Technical Sergeant specializing in telecommunications. After his retirement, he attended Maryland University and graduated with a Master’s Degree. He attended Church at Bolling AFB and was regularly responsible for reading the scripture during the weekly Sunday services. He was a Mason and was very computer savvy. He also loved to bowl and play poker. His first marriage was to Shirley Jones. He later married Suzanne Serena Burgess 1968, and they had a combined family with eight children. Donna Fay Lentini, 64 of Hughesville, MD passed away on November 9, 2017 at UM Charles Regional Medical Center in LaPlata, MD. Donna was born on September 22, 1953 to the late Alfred B. Brown and the late Peggy Gans Good in LaPlata, MD. Donna enjoyed sewing, crocheting and reading. She worked in the Direct Sales Market for Tupperware for 22 years. Donna is survived by her loving husband, Paul Lentini; son, Charles C. Lentini; daughter of the heart, Teresa O’Neill; brother, Kenneth Grimes, sister, Doris A. Ager and one grandchild, Sophia Lentini. Christopher Kirk DeBoer, of Owings, MD, formerly of Marathon, FL, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at home at the age of 32. He was born in Tulsa, OK, on March 25, 1985, to Karen Jo Spiller and Charles M. DeBoer. He spent his formative years in Tulsa, OK. Kirk was a passionate and gifted welder, who graduated at the top of his class from Tulsa Welding School. He was a member of the Steamfitters Union, Local #602 in Washington, DC. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, biking, nature, sunsets and anything having to do with life. He was blessed with an abundance of talent, was very gifted, humble, creative and artistic. Kirk was a hard worker, an adrenalin and thrill seeker and was always looking for a new challenge. Elma June Myers, 86, of Waldorf, MD passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017. Born to the late Ella and Wellington Conn in Maryland. She is survived by her loving children, Janet Jones (Tom) of Waldorf, MD, Ellen Berg (Ronald) of Waldorf, MD, and Johnny Myers of Florida; six dear grandchildren, Shawn Porter, Joseph (Rochele) Porter, JT Myers III, Michael Jones, Ryan Myers, and Summer Myers; two beloved great-grandchildren, Cohen and Sophia Porter; and a host of friends. In addition to her parents, Elma was predeceased by her husband, John T. Myers in 2006. Ella loved shopping and eating. She was a member of the Eastern Star when she was younger. She also worked for the Federal Government in the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 53 years.

Doris Ozella Williams, 87, of White Plains, MD passed away on November 11, 2017 at the University of MD Charles Regional Medical Center. Born on February 13, 1930 in Eden, NC to the late Samuel Broadnax and the late Nora Harriston, Doris is also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Williams; and her daughters, Brenda Williams and Nora Harris. She is survived by her sons, Aundrea Broadnax, Russell Williams and Ray Williams; daughters, Ava Hargrove and June Williams; eight grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Doris was a member of the Agape Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden. She enjoyed Bingo, cooking, listening to old Gospel music and eating fried chicken wings from Chinese restaurants with her family. She was loved by many. A Visitation will be held from 10AM to 11AM on November 20, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, 3600 Brightseat Rd., Landover, MD 20785, where a Funeral Service will begin at 11AM. Murphy and the late Margaret M. Murphy, she is also preceded in death by her brothers, John Murphy and Nedray Murphy; and companion, Francis Ward. Margaret is survived by her sons, Richard C. Stickel (the late Nina Stickel) and Robert L. Stickel; daughter, Darlene R. Stickel; sisters, Margie Simpson (the late Joe Simpson), Rose Radcliff (Francis), Hilda Cameron and Ramona Millar (the late Stanley Millar); six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret, fondly known as “Soda”, was employed as a Correspondence Clerk for the FBI. She was also a member of Old Durham Episcopal Church. Miriam Kirchner Collins, 91, of Deale passed away November 13, 2017 at her home, surrounded by family. She was born February 16, 1926 to George and Myrtle (Seigert) Kirchner. She grew up swimming, sailing and ice skating on the West River and was a graduate of Southern High School. Miriam married Edward Linwood “Boots” Collins on June 1, 1949 and they made their home on Parker’s Creek in Deale. She was primarily a homemaker and spent countless nights shedding soft crabs. She was a devoted member of Cedar Grove U.M Church in Deale. She loved carving ducks, reading, cracking walnuts and sailing. Miriam loved her life, family and Deale, often referring to it as “Heaven on Earth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Boots, and siblings Olive, George, Jackie and Kenny. She is survived by a son Keith A. “Bootie” Collins of Deale and a daughter Lindy Lou Clark of West River. Also surviving are grandchildren Melissa L. Clark of West River, Brian K. Clark and wife Cristina of Lothian, Crystal L. Collins and Katie V. Collins, both of Shady Side, great-grandchildren Mason and Gracie Cruz and Joseph and Hunter Cox, and her dog Duchess.
