Thomas Edward “Eddie” Tippett, 87, of Great Mills, MD passed away on March 3, 2018 at his home. Born on November 22, 1930 in Helen, MD, he was of the son the late Betty Lucy Morgan Tippett and Joseph Raymond Tippett. Eddie was the loving husband of Agnes Cecelia Tippett. He is survived his brother: Francis Tippett (Elenor) of Compton, MD. He is preceded in death by his son Thomas Anthony Tippett, siblings; Gertrude Russell, Mabel Curry, Joseph Tippett, Maude Knott, and Dorothy Harwood. Eddie served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class. Eddie was an Aircraft mechanic and inspector for Capital Airlines, United Airlines, FAA and United States Navy Patuxent River, MD. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2065, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, NARFE Chapter 969, and Co-Founder of the St. Mary’s Youth Memorial in Great Mills, MD. On Saturday, March 4, 2018, according to God’s plan, Michael Cornell Sawyers, II, 37 of Bryans Road, MD, departed this earthly life. Michael was born on December 25, 1980, in Presidio, San Francisco, California. He is the son of Michael Cornell Sawyers Sr. and Gloria Sawyers and he is the brother of Letisha Sawyers. Michael attended elementary School in Natick, MA, Heidelberg, Germany, Fort Washington, MD and Fort Leavenworth, KS. He attended high school in Brandywine, MD and graduated from Evans High School in Augusta, GA in 1999. After graduation, Michael attended Georgia Southern University; majoring in engineering. Prior to passing, Michael was enrolled at the University of Maryland University College; majoring in Cyber Security. Michael was an active member of Grace Assembly of God in Fort Washington, Maryland. While there, he confessed his faith and was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Farley Hampton Jenkins, 83 passed away on March 4, 2018 at Charles County Hospice House. Farley was born on April 30, 1934 in Washington, DC to the late Farley Lee and Martha Virginia Jenkins. Farley was a retired assistant superintendent in the office of the Sergeant of Arms at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, DC. He served in the United States Army. He was a loving husband, father and Pop Pop. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Josephine Elizabeth Ann Jenkins and his sister and brother in-law Rosalee and Pat Thomas. Farley is survived by his wife of 14 years Marylin Jenkins; two daughters; Brenda Petras (Michael) and Wanda Jenkins; two grandchildren; Michael Petras (Jessica) and Joanne Bischof (Mike); five great-grandchildren; Amelia an Skylar Petras and Brendan, Caleb an Henry Bischof and two nephews; Teddy Thomas (Margaret) and Terry Thomas (Jill). Ella Lee Winters, age 84 of La Plata, Maryland, died March 6, 2018 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland. Ella was a homemaker and a life-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata. She enjoyed cooking, word searches, watching cooking shows, baseball, soaps on the TV, and Wheel of Fortune. She most enjoyed being with her family and friends. She was the daughter of Sherman and Rose Young Watts. In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by her son, Joseph M. Winters, Jr. and George Winters. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Matthews Winters, Sr.; her sons, Francis I. Winters (Cynthia), Robert M. Winters (Sephra), Larry D. Winters; her daughters, Linda Adams and Yvonne D. Mock (Kenneth); her brother, William S. Watts (Carol); her sister, Alice Briscoe. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren. Friends received on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 9AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary’s Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Allen Bryan Young 88, of Dunkirk passed away March 5, 2018 at his residence. He was born February 11, 1930 in War, West Virginia to Joseph Issac and Margaret Gracebelle (Harman) Young. Allen was raised in Grundy, VA and was a coal miner when he was younger. He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1950 and worked at Anacostia Sunoco before going to work for Ourisman Chevrolet, where he specialized in Chevy Corvairs. Allen then bought Allen’s ARCO in Forestville in 1969 and owned and operated Allen’s Towing out of the gas station until 1972. In 1973, he opened Allen’s Auto Service and operated that until 1984. He then went to work for Calvert County Public Schools as a school bus driver for special education students. Later he became a bus assistant for special education students. Allen was also the former assistant chief at Ritchie Volunteer Fire Department and helped lay the bricks for the fire house. Allen moved to Las Vegas in June of 2003 and married Carolyn Moore. Doris Evelyn Soper, 86, of St. Leonard, MD. Passed away peacefully on March 2, 2018 at her home. She was born on September 9, 1931 in Washington DC to the late Benjamin A. and Jennie Minto Walls. She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis William Soper, Sr. and her sons David and Johnny Soper. She worked for Giant as a Bakery Manager for 27 years. Loving Mother of Anna Lyvers (the late Wayne), Bill Soper (Patty), and Patricia Johnston (Tom). Grandmother of Michelle Mister, Ricky O’Palko, Billy Soper, Kelly Soucy, Kimberly Dreaden , Jennifer Carter, Diana Clemons, Davey Soper, and Jessica and Michael Soper. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday March 9, 2018 from 10-12 Noon at the Rausch Funeral Home, 4405 Broomes Island Road Port Republic, MD where services will be held at 12 noon. On March 2, 2018, Mary E. Russ of Dunkirk, MD, passed away peacefully at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William L. Russ and first born, William L Russ, Jr. She was the loving mother of, Karen Bailey (Gary), Roseanna Anderson (Paul), Bob Russ (Sharon), Richard Russ (Debbie), Kevin Russ and Tina Kaye GaNun (Steve). Mary was the devoted Grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by cousin Catherine Graham and nieces, nephews and other family and friends. William “Bill” Jackson Claspell, 75, of Port Tobacco, MD passed away on March 3, 2018 at George Washington Hospital Center. Born on December 30, 1942 to the late William J. Claspell, Sr. and the late Florence E. Claspell, Bill is also preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Ross and his son, William J. Claspell, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Berna; son, Rob Claspell; daughter, Jen Martin; sisters, Betty Claspell and Myra Frye; and six grandchildren. Bill was employed by AT&T as a Methods Analyst. He was of Baptist faith and loved his church, First Baptist Church of LaPlata. He was a Civil War history buff and loved fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 9th from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at First Baptist Church of LaPlata (9070 Hawthorne Rd., LaPlata, MD); where a Funeral Service will also be held at 12:00PPM; Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery (4111 Pennsylvania Ave., Suitland, MD). Bret Joseph Gomilla of Chesapeake Beach, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the age of 60. He was born on February 5, 1958, in New Orleans, LA, to Patricia Mary [White] and John Gomilla. Bret was a graduate of Bowie Senior High School in 1976. During his high school years, he enjoyed participating in sports, especially wrestling. This love of sports carried on into his adult life, playing football and baseball in the local leagues. He was also an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and the Washington Nationals. Music was a big part of Bret’s life and he found great peace and comfort in it. He played the guitar and was a great music writer. The greatest joy in Bret’s life was his family. There was always plenty of laughter, fun and memories made to last a lifetime. Melvin Ross Cooke, 86, of Hughesville, MD passed away on March 2, 2018 at Sagepoint Senior Living in LaPlata, MD. Melvin was born in Washington, DC on March 22, 1931 to the late Charles Ross Cooke and the late Mary Frances Cooke.  He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline; sons, Eric Cooke (Tracy) and Jeffrey Cooke (Diana); daughters, Linda Smith and Kathy Thomas(Glenn); 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Melvin attended Chamberlin Vo-Tech in Washington, DC and joined the Navy.  He and Pauline married on September 22, 1953 and moved to Hughesville in 1963 where they raised their family.  Melvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming and bowling in his spare time. Crystal Lea [Ellis] Rivera of St. Leonard, MD, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018, at the age of 34. She was born on April 17, 1983, in Washington, DC, to Sharon K. [Smith] and David E. Ellis, Sr. Crystal was a graduate of Northern High School, Owings, MD. She had a very strong love of animals, enjoyed going fishing and shopping. She was involved in the community with various kids activities and planning family outings and trips. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and making memories. Edward Peterson departed this life Wednesday, March 7, 2018 after a long illness. Born November 16, 1933 in Richmond, VA to the late Edward and Madge Peterson, who preceded him in death. Edward was educated in Caroline County Public School System. He relocated to the Washington DC area in 1956. He worked briefly for the DC Public School System and Washington Gas Company. He became an electrician and worked for the Federal Government until retirement. Edward was an avid gun and knife collector who enjoyed hunting. He is survived by five children from two previous marriages: Gail, John, Keith, Valerie and Monica, ten grandchildren: Stephanie, Vanessa, Yolanda, John Jr., Terrence, Anthony, Alexis, Andre, Christopher and Chase and 16 great-grandchildren. Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 2294 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD 20601. Interment is private.

Michael DeWayne Boseman, 60, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018. He was born on March 7, 1957 in Chattanooga, TN to Barbara McCurdy. Barbara was later united in holy matrimony to the late William B. Boseman, who adopted Michael at the age of two years old. Michael was the light of William’s life. He nurtured, loved and cared for Michael unconditionally. Michael graduated from Ballou High School, Washington, DC. After graduation, he joined the U. S. Army in June, 1974 and was honorably discharged in May, 1977, where he served his country proudly and put service before self, for our freedoms and security. His employment career included working at agencies such as U.S. Veterans Hospital and U. S. World and News Report, as well as several other agencies. Michael loved to entertain. He was humorous, always laughing and smiling. He was witty and had the ability to repeat jokes told by comedian Richard Pryor and others and could repeat them almost verbatim. Helen Cartalla Caballero, 75, of Waldorf, MD, died on March 9, 2018 at Charles County Hospice House in Waldorf, MD. Helen was a Pharmaceutical Technician for 25 years with local hospitals, including Greater Southeast Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of St. Charles in Waldorf, MD. She was known as a hard worker and was always singing hymns. Most important to her was spending time with her grandchildren. She was daughter of the late Lucan Cartalla and Victoria Alvarez Cartalla. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Rudolpho Duyongco. Mark Lee Tucker, 56, of Lusby, MD passed away on March 3, 2018 at his residence. Born August 25, 1961 in Cheverly, MD, he was the son of Bonnie Tucker Tolson and the late David Lee Tucker. Mark grew up in Forestville, MD and graduated from Crossland High School in 1979. He has been a resident of Calvert County since 1999. He was an auto body shop manager. He enjoyed horseshoes, darts, fishing, hunting, NASCAR and all sports. Mark is survived by his mother, Bonnie Tucker Tolson of Lusby, MD; his children, Mandy Tucker of Odenton, MD and Jenny Ussery (Bruce) of Williamsburg, VA; and siblings, Brenda White (Ken) of Owings, MD, Lee Ann Taylor (Jeff) of Ashburn, VA, Sue Toth of Bowie, MD, Debbie Hanfman of Laurel, MD, Steve Tolson (Elva) of Stafford, VA and Ann Posey (Keith) of Mt. Carmel, TN; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, David L. Tucker and his step-father, Joseph Tolson.
