James Johnson Morgan, 57, of Upper Marlboro, passed away on May 4, 2022. On February 13, 1965, James was born to John and Hattie Morgan in Maryland. He loved anything that had to do with Harley Davidson and was always making people smile. James is survived by his brothers; Dennis Morgan, Joe Morgan, David Morgan, and Michael Morgan as well as his sisters; Mary Morgan and Christine Pirner. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased in death by his parents John and Hattie Morgan, as well as his brothers Donald and Wayne Morgan. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 16, 2022, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with the service beginning at 12:00 pm. Interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens will follow the service. Michael Howard Bruner, Sr., 63, of Callaway, MD passed away suddenly on May 8, 2022 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital with his loving wife at his side. He was born on September 23, 1958 in Queens, NY to the late Howard Thomas Bruner, Sr. and Marilyn Louise Svoboda Bruner. On November 30, 1976 Mike enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant for 11 years until his Honorable Discharge on November 27, 1987. During his service he earned the Air Force Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Longevity Service Award Ribbon with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (Rifle), and Training Ribbon.  On July 15, 2006, he married the love of his life, Vivian Lee Bruner. Together they celebrated over 15 wonderful years of marriage. He was employed as a Neon Engineer for the Department of Homeland Security. Dad had a deep love for his home state of NY to include the Giants and the Yankees and Long Island as a whole. Beverly Jean Windsor, 61, of Upper Marlboro, MD, peacefully passed away at her home on May 12, 2022. Beverly was born on September 20, 1960, to James and Mary Spalding in Clinton, MD. She was known for her gentle and compassionate heart. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to offer to friends and family. After Beverly graduated from Gwynn Park High School in 1978, she started as a secretary at Designers and Planners in Crystal City, VA. She worked in Crystal City for over 10 years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Beverly loved nothing more than being able to stay at home to raise her children. She started providing daycare for several other children in the area, mainly relatives. Beginning as friends in high school, it was in the year 1985 that Joseph Windsor, Sr. asked Beverly to be his date for his sister’s wedding. Beverly and Joe wedded in 1986 and started a family of their own. Donald Eric Little, 61, of Hollywood, MD passed away suddenly and peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2022. He was born on July 16, 1960 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Faber Donald Little and Eleanor Ann Pryce Little. Eric was raised in Johnstown, PA and graduated from Mercersburg Academy.  He owned and operated J.R.’s Bar & Grill, the iconic Washington, D.C. tavern, for 26 years – purchasing it in 1996 after serving as bartender and manager since its opening in 1986. He also owned several former bars and restaurants including Cobalt Dance Club, 30 Degrees Lounge, and Level One restaurant in Dupont Circle for 20 years as well as J.R.’s Bar & Grill in Denver, CO. He started the nationally famous 17th Street High Heel Race in 1986 which still draws thousands of spectators and runners every Halloween. He mentored hundreds of employees and “counseled” thousands of customers over his 36-year career – never meeting a stranger and always remembering names and details. He enjoyed boating on both the Potomac and Patuxent Rivers for over 40 years and was an expert water and snow skier. On the morning of May 12, 2022, Paul Albert Mackert of Waldorf, MD passed away suddenly at age 63. Paul was born in Phoenix, Arizona to Paul G Mackert and Mary Roberts on March 12, 1959. He was employed by Scaffolding Resources for over 20 years. This company was like family to him. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, restoring an 1885 General Store, and spending time with family. In 1989, he met Patricia Mackert, they wed December 2010. Together they raised two children, Samantha and Jason. Paul was preceded in death by his daughter Amanda Mackert. Glenn Robert Hughes, 66, passed away after complications from surgery at the George Washington University Hospital on May 5, 2022. Glenn was born in Washington, D.C on June 3, 1956, to Arthur and Betty Hughes. Glenn was the oldest sibling of four children. Glenn graduated from Thomas Stone High School in Waldorf, MD.  He worked as a medical supply purchasing agent for many years. As a teenager, Glenn fell in love with music.  Over many years he grew a large collection of albums which he used to support his work as a part-time DJ. Glenn was one of the most well-known DJs in Southern Maryland during the 80’s and 90’s.  Glenn had a great sense of humor and loved to talk and be around other people.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and would often crack jokes to get you smiling and laughing. Jan Brandstetter, 74, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Callaway, MD on May 16, 2022.  Born on June 26, 1947, Jan was the daughter of John M. and Doris A. Sopousek of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Jan had a love of reading and spent 40 years working at the various branches of the Charles County Public Library.  During these working years, is where she met her closest friends.  She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to offer to friends and family. Jan was blessed with two children, Sheila Greer of Hughesville, MD, and Lisa Brandstetter, who predeceased her.  She loved spending time with them, shopping, and traveling to antique shows. After retiring, in 2014, Jan spent her time reading, playing bridge, and enjoying time with her family and close friends.  She loved volunteering at the St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League, where she would care for and play with the kittens and cats. Rebecca Lynn Warring (Becky), age 60, of Golden Beach, MD peacefully passed into Heaven on Friday, May 13, 2022, with family by her side. Becky was born December 29, 1961, in Cheverly, MD to Franklin H. Weaver & Patricia A. Weaver. Becky grew up in Clinton, MD, and graduated from Surrattsville High School in 1979, where she studied accounting. She turned her passion for numbers into a lifelong career in bookkeeping and banking. Becky found the most joy in getting married to her husband of 30 years, David W. Warring, and starting her family, blessed with two children, Benjamin Daniel & Shannon Nicole. Her favorite pastime with her husband and children was spent crabbing on the boat. In November 2018, Becky was overjoyed when she became a grandmother (GeeGee) to Ella Anne. She also enjoyed spending time with her family at various gatherings and loved decorating for all the holidays, but Christmas was her favorite! Robert Dayton “Smitty” Smith, 90

Robert Dayton “Smitty” Smith, 90, of Leonardtown, MD passed away peacefully on May 8, 2022 at his home. He was born on April 24, 1932 in Erwin, TN to the late Lum Smith and Dorothy Mae Peterson Smith. Smitty proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War until his Honorable Discharge in 1955. On September 4, 1953 he married the love of his life, RoseMary Smith.  They celebrated 66 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in December 2019. He was employed for many dedicated years by the Department of Defense at Patuxent River Naval Air Station as a Mechanical Engineer until his retirement on July 18, 1991 from there. He loved spending time on the water, boating and fishing. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing trips and watching the ospreys. He enjoyed gardening, raising honey bees, purple martins and cultivating fruit trees. He grew apple, pear, cherry and orange trees. Elizabeth Ann Clarke, 62, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital with her loving husband at her side. Elizabeth (Betty) was born on January 29, 1960 in Baltimore, MD to Mary Catherine Cross Wathen of Hollywood, MD and the late Melvin Aloysius Wathen, Sr. On July 17, 1987 she married the love of her life, James Romanus Clarke in Leonardtown, MD.  Together they celebrated over 34 wonderful years of marriage. She was employed as an Analyst at Patuxent River Naval Air Station for many dedicated years. In addition to her Mother and beloved Husband, she is also survived by her siblings: Bonnie Weiland (Ben) of Lexington Park, Linda Abell of Hinesville, GA, Jeannie Sherrill (Charles) of Hickory, NC, Veronica Butler (David) of California, MD, and Debbie Abell (Steve) of Leonardtown, MD and Dale Wathen Sr (Lorie) of Hollywood, MD; and many extended family and friends.  In addition to her father, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Aloysius “Al” Wathen, Jr. All services will be private. Charles “Chuck” Morgan Burch, 59 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on May 11, 2022 at his home. He was born on August 13, 1962 in Leonardtown, MD to Norman A. Burch Sr. and Mary Rose Payne Burch. Chuck was self-employed as a waterman and he also enjoyed farming on the family farm raising tobacco. He was married to RuthMarie Burch until her passing in 2002 and together they were blessed with 2 children Jessica and stepson James. Chuck found love again with his second wife Mary Margaret Burch and they were married for 16 years until her passing in June of 2020. Chuck enjoyed drag racing as a hobby. When he wasn’t racing he would hang out tinkering in the garage with his brother’s Johnny and Normie and nephews Keith and Chad. There wasn’t a story that involved him that he wasn’t racing a dodge. Armiger Sr. and Lovey Mister Armiger. James worked as a Landscaper for Wentworth Nursery until he retired. He was married to Ellen Elizabeth Armiger for a strong 52 years until her passing in (2014) and together they were blessed with four children Timothy, Joseph, Annette and Larry. James was a work-a-holic he enjoyed his job as a landscaper and enjoyed his own bountiful garden. He was also a member or the Moose Lodge. Priscilla Duke Wentworth Hall, 92, of Leonardtown, MD passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, Eldon, on May 16, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born at Eldon, the family home, on December 1, 1929 to her parents Kenneth B Duke and Lorraine Hodges Duke. She was the youngest of four children; Kenneth B Duke Jr, Virginia C Duke, and Eleanor Duke Storck. She is preceded in death by her parents and two of her siblings, Kenneth and Virginia. Priscilla celebrated 35 years of marriage to Robert E. L. Wentworth and they had seven beautiful children; Lorraine Lennox (John), Robert E. L. Wentworth Jr. (Karen), Howard C Wentworth (Susan), Priscilla Ann Varner (Jim), Richard M Wentworth (Cindy), Kenneth D Wentworth (Sam), and Katherine Winchester (George). Mary Odessa Curtis “Totsie”, 92, of Chaptico, MD, passed away May 12, 2022, at home, with her loving family by her side. She was born June 28, 1929 in Budds Creek, MD to the late John Francis Middleton and Eleanor Bush. Mary Odessa, lovingly known by her family and friends as “Totsie”, was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County.  She received her education in the St. Mary’s County School System after which she began working on Patuxent Naval Base.  On July 4, 1948 she married her beloved husband, James Roscoe Curtis Sr., in Bushwood, MD, with whom she celebrated over 59 wonderful years of marriage before his passing May 7, 2008. Throughout her career, she performed various duties as a housekeeper and home care-giver. In her spare-time she enjoyed spending time with her family. As the matriarch of the family, she showered her family with love and hosted countless family and holiday gatherings. Gladys “Marie” Murphy, 88, of Mechanicsville, MD peacefully passed away at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, MD on May 14, 2022. “Marie” was born on August 29, 1933, to the late Joseph Edward Wathen and Martha Gertrude (Pilkerton) Wathen in Newport, MD. She met Thomas Alvin Murphy and they went on to marry in 1952 and celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2013. They began their family going on to have ten (10) children; Tommy Murphy (Julie) of Pomfret, MD; Joan Holben (Ed) of Texas; Bobby Murphy (Christine) of Leonardtown, MD; Lois Murphy of Mechanicsville, MD; Lewis Murphy (Betty) of Mechanicsville, MD; Donald “Freddie” Murphy (Sherry) of Mechanicsville, MD; Debra Murphy; Evelyn Muenzel (Frank) of California, MD; Billy Murphy of Texas and Roger Murphy (Carol) of Hollywood, MD. John “Jack” Conlon, Jr. 76 of LaPlata, MD passed away on Thursday May 12, 2022 in LaPlata, MD. Jack was born on April 7, 1946 in Washington, DC to the late John and Leona Conlon. He is also predeceased by his wife, Donna Conlon; their grandson Joshua Michael; and sister Judy Boyden. Jack is survived by his sons, John Conlon, III and Douglas Richardson; daughters; Jeanne Richardson, Jessica Conlon and Nannette Conlon; sisters, Jean Ferrante, Janice Conlon and Joyce Conlon Riggs; grandchildren, Jenna, Frank, Jacob, Amanda, Neesa, Cody, Dillon, Victoria and Jordan Marie; great grandchildren, Reili Anne, Madison Lee, Chase Allan, Hadley Grace, Joshua Mark, Parker Elizabeth and Lochlan John. Harry Robert Burns, Sr. 74, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, passed away on May 11, 2022. He was born on March 28, 1948, to Robert and Shirley Burns in the Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington D.C. He was one (1) of seven (7) children. After graduating from high school, he went on to join the United States Army and served his country proud before being honorably discharged in 1969. During his service, he received the Nation Defense Service Medal (NDSH), Expert Marksmanship Badge (EXP M-14), an M-14 Marksman Marksmanship Qualification Badge (MKM M-16), an Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM), a Vietnam Service Medal, (VSM), a Vietnam Campaign Medal (VCM), and two (2) Overseas Service Bars (2 O/S Bars), as well as Scout Training wherein he was assigned his beloved service dog, Spike. Margaret Louise Stickell, 71 of Loveville, MD passed away at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born in Leonardtown, MD to the late Joseph Clyde Guy and Dorothy Dillard Jones. Margaret is a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County and a 1969 graduate of Chopticon High School. She spent over 30 dedicated years with the St. Mary’s County Public Schools as a Registrar and was later employed by Advance Construction for 10 years, until her final retirement. In 1985 she married Carrol Edward “Chuck” Stickell in Avenue, MD. Together they celebrated over 28 wonderful years of marriage, before his passing in 2014. She was an avid traveler and really enjoyed meeting new people. During the past six years, she and her companion Nick Govoruhk, continued creating travel memories. Kathy was born on October 31, 1946, to the late Robert and Anna Callis in the bustling city of Washington, D.C. Kathleen graduated from Surrattsville High School in 1964. After graduation, she worked many different jobs before finding her career in Banking. She became Branch Manager in just a few years. Her family was proud of her and her career, along with her admirable work ethic. Kathy went on to have two (2) children Charles and Brian. After she retired, she enjoyed spending time at home. David Michael “Dave” O’Brien, 75, of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of S.E. Washington, DC, passed away on May 11, 2022 in Callaway, MD. Born on November 22, 1946 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Helen O’Brien and Edward O’Brien. Dave was the loving husband of the late Shirlynn O’Brien, whom he married on October 21, 1967 in Washington, DC, and who preceded him in death on November 6, 2019. He is survived by his children Heather O’Brien of Hollywood, MD, Michael O’Brien (Melissa) of Hollywood, MD, Shannon O’Brien of Mechanicsville, MD, Kyle O’Brien of Youngstown, OH, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Dave graduated from Anacostia High School in 1966, and was a switchboard operator for Bell Atlantic for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He served in the United States Army from June 30, 1966 to July 29, 1969. He served in the Vietnam War and the Tet Offensive, and earned the Bronze Star Medal.
