Agnes Marilyn “Lynn” Stone Campbell, 65 of Ridge, MD died May 29, 2014, at her residence in Ridge, MD. She was born on February 17, 1949, in Leonardtown, MD, to the late James Emerick Stone, Sr. and Helen C. Yeatman Stone. On December 15, 1978, Lynn married her late husband, Luther Reed “Soupy” Campbell, in LaPlata, MD. Together they were married 31 years before his passing in September 2009. She retired from the United States Government after 30 dedicated years working at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. After retirement, she enjoyed working part-time at Kenny’s Florist in Lexington Park, MD. She also enjoyed crabbing, flower gardening, and going to social functions with her late husband. Lynn is survived by her siblings, James E. “Ricky” Stone, Jr. of Aiken, SC and Sandra L. “Sandy” Sullivan (Paul) of Ridge, MD; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Luther Reed Campbell. James Michael Berkin, 20 of Drayden, MD, passed away suddenly at his residence on Sunday, May 25, 2014, from complications of diabetes and other health problems. Born on June 19, 1993, in Bethesda, MD, he was the much-loved son of Michael G. Berkin and Shirley Kay (Johnson) Berkin of Drayden, MD. James graduated from Leonardtown High School in May 2011. He was an outstanding student at the College of Southern Maryland, where he enjoyed tutoring students and was a member of the student council. After CSM, James planned to transfer to a four year school and then to teach English in Japan. His ultimate goal was to change the world one day by becoming a doctor or choosing a similar career to help others. Having lived in Maryland, California, Maine, and Japan, James loved to travel. He was quite interested in the Asian culture and had learned to speak and write in Japanese and Chinese. As a youth, James was in Scouts, played baseball and soccer, and was active in AWANA, having earned many achievement awards. He enjoyed practicing tae kwan do, yoga and reading anime. James Edwin “Jim” Wolfe, 71 of Lusby, MD, formerly of Camp Spring, MD, passed away suddenly on May 28, 2014 at his residence. He was born on April 14, 1943 in Kattanning, PA to the late Reynolds A. and Uda Wolfe. Jim graduated from East Brady High School in 1960 and went on to work for the FBI as an Archives Analyst. He retired in July 2012 after 45 years of service. He enjoyed singing, fishing, bowling, playing golf, collecting coins and stamps, and was the founding member of the Living Water Quartet. Jim is survived by his lifelong companion of over 40 years, June Shepherd of Lusby, MD; siblings, Peggy Spence and her husband Ronald of PA, William Wolfe and his wife Patricia of VA, and Betty Ranger and her husband Terry of PA; goddaughter, Kaitlyn Barnes and many nieces and nephews. She was born September 4, 1932 in Prince Frederick, MD to the late William Columbus Wood and Margaret Gibson Wood Bowen. Besides her parents, Marie is predeceased by her siblings, Catherine Ann Clay, James W. Wood, and Sylvia Faye Bowen, and a grandson, Christopher Allen Craft. Marie was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Prince Frederick. She was an avid bowler and loved her roses. She dedicated her life to her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Married to her best friend for 63 years, she is survived by her loving husband, Donald Q. Hall. Molden. Agnes was the loving wife of the late Joseph H. Woodland. Agnes is survived by her children; Alice (Thomas) Young, Mary (Thomas) Mills, Annie (James) Holley, Brenda Daniels, Adrian (Thelma) Woodland, James Woodland, Jerome (Agnes) Woodland, John (Bonita) Woodland, Charles (Shirley) Woodland, daughter-in-law Mary A. Woodland, and son-in-law Arthur Graham, 28 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, a niece Mary Curtis whom she loved dearly like a daughter and a lifelong special friend, Betty Douglas. William Robert “Willie” DeMarr, Sr., 87, of Aquasco, MD passed away on June 1, 2014 at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, MD. He was born on September 9, 1926 in Clinton, MD to the late Percy Thomas DeMarr and the late Lettie (Keller) DeMarr. Willie enjoyed re-building old cars, trucks, and tractors. In addition to his parents, Willie was predeceased by his wife, Martha Mae (Grimes) DeMarr; two brothers; two sisters; and his sister-in-law Audrey DeMarr. Willie is survived by his sons, William Robert DeMarr, Jr. and girlfriend, Melinda Baden, John Thomas DeMarr, Sr. and wife, Kathy Sue, and Frank L. Alexander Franklin Fort passed away at birth May 27, 2014 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD, son of John A. Fort and Melissa M. Fort of Mechanicsville, MD. Alexander is survived by his parents; brother, Ash, sister Zillah; grandparents, John and Kim Fort, Ellen and Frank Bowles and Jack Chavis. He is also survived by uncles, Kevin Fort, John Williams Jr., Danny Williams and Frank Bowles Jr. as well as numerous cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Rory T. Barbara Anne Duvall, 78 of Aquasco, MD passed away at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital on May 26, 2014. She was born on November 11, 1935 in Washington, D.C. to the late Charles T. Unkle and the late Margaret C. (Porter) Unkle. As a devout Catholic, one of Barbara’s greatest joys was being a mentor to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the choir at St. Mary of the Assumption of Upper Marlboro, MD and the Ft. Washington Community Chorus. Barbara retired as a Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court. She was an author of a children’s book, and enjoyed drawing, illustrating, painting, and singing at the Kennedy Center during special occasions. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Doris Lameo. Barbara is survived by her children, John M. Duvall (Patricia), Paul T. Duvall (Patty O’Shea), Jennifer A. Beamer (Michael), and Cecilia M. Fox; brother, Charles Unkle; and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by the father of her children, John A. Duvall. Mary Edith Brown Hammett passed away on June 1, 2014. She was born in Ijamsville, MD, on July 8, 1911, to James Patrick Brown and Ethel Spill Brown. After graduating as a registered nurse from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburg, PA, in 1933, she worked as a operating room nurse at Casualty Hospital in Washington, D.C., until 1941. In 1938, she married David Hammett in Washington. In 1945, she and her husband returned to St. Mary’s, his birthplace. They lived at Park Hall until his death in 2003. The next year she moved to Cedar Lane Senior Community in Leonardtown. Mrs. Hammett is survived by her children, Suzanne Lawrence and her husband John, of Dameron, Elizabeth Woodard and her husband Sandy, of Drayden, David Hammett, Jr., and his wife Debra Titus, of Laurel, DE, and Thomas Hammett and his wife Marguerite Bonuccelli of Bowie; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Elaine Agnes Johnson Williams, 71 passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014 in Newport News, VA. Elaine was born on January 15, 1943 to the late Joseph Frederick Johnson and Julia Elizabeth Edwards Berry. Elaine was educated in the St. Mary’s County Public Schools system at George Washington Carver. She worked as an Advocate for Social Services where she earned her degree in Child Development. She later moved to Newport News where she married her husband of 32 years, James Williams. Elaine was a member of Holy Trinity Church. She enjoyed traveling with her “Special” group of ladies on different casino trips. Elaine loved playing Bingo and spending quality time with her family. Her famous saying to her family was “It may not be what you want, but it sure is what you need”. Donna Kay Pickard, 56 of Lexington Park, MD died May 30, 2014, at her residence in Lexington Park. She was born on August 22, 1957, in Oklahoma City, OK, to the late Wade Williams and Dalena Howard Ellis. Donna moved to St. Mary’s County in 2004 from Paradise, CA. She was employed as a manager at Dress Barn in California, MD. She enjoyed many sports, including cheering on Jeff Gordon during NASCAR racing, the Oakland Raiders and The Oakland Athletics. She also enjoyed cooking, fishing, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and watching family feud. She was very family oriented, and loved to spend time with her family and friends. She also loved her pet cats, Baby Girl and Precious. Richard Clyde “Dick” Shoemaker, 74 of Leonardtown, MD passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 2, 2014 at his residence. Born on January 1, 1940, in Lancaster, PA, he was the loving son of the late Lillian Hazel Shank and Clyde Frank Shoemaker. Dick was the loving husband of Grace Marie Shoemaker. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ellen J. Abell Shoemaker. Dick is survived by his children: Frank Richard Shoemaker, (Kim) of Magnolia, TX, Erin Kathleen Shoemaker and Cary Colleen Shoemaker both of Leonardtown, Kimberly Jo Guy (Brian) of Clements, nine grandchildren: Cameron, Frank, Jr., James, Johnna Shoemaker, Nick, Preston and Grant Gass, Ashley Jo and Austin Guy. Dick enlisted in the United State Navy on January 16, 1959, during his service to our county he served for 3 and ½ tours in Vietnam from March 1969 to June 1972. He also served aboard the U.S.S. William Victor “Vic” Adams, III, 57 of St. Mary’s City, MD passed away on May 31, 2014 at his residence with close family at his side. Vic was born October 30, 1956 in Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Norfolk, VA to the late William Victor Adams, Jr. and Barbara Adams of St. Mary’s City. Vic graduated from First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach in 1974. After doing some traveling on his own, he returned to St. Mary’s County. In 1982 he began working at Sailing Specialties Inc. (SSI) as a Production Manager and then OEM Sales, until early 2014. Vic was a devoted son, husband, and father, with a huge heart and unending loyalty for friends and loved ones. His hobbies included traveling, boating, skiing, cooking, and NASCAR racing. He also loved music, especially Blue Grass and did some pickin of his own on the banjo. He also enjoyed volunteering at Historic St. Mary’s City.
