Kathleen Lorraine Easter, 61 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on June 5, 2014 at Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD. She was born on October 3, 1952 in Washington, D.C. to Edward Warren Baker of Stafford, VA and Lorraine Norma Bennett of Fredericksburg, VA. Kathie grew up in Hillcrest Heights, MD and graduated from Potomac High School in 1970. Kathie married her beloved husband Billy on May 27th 1971 and this year they celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary. When she was first married, Kathie worked at National Letter Carriers in D.C. for a year. After her daughter, Adina, was born she decided to stay home as a devoted homemaker and Mom. In 1976 she moved to St. Mary’s County. Recently, she worked for World Gym of Mechanicsville, MD for five years as a bookkeeper. Kathie dedicated her life to her daughter, grandchildren and family. She was extremely talented in poetry, decorating, organization, baking and crafts. The hobbies she enjoyed were scrap booking, word puzzles, gardening, watching her soaps and spending time with her grandchildren. Kathie had a passionate love for animals. Dorothy Jean “Jeannie” Boyce, 47 of Hollywood, MD died June 5, 2014 at her residence with close family by her side. Born September 23, 1966 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of Robert I. Garner and Ethel Marie “Sissy” Clements Garner. Jeannie graduated from Leonardtown High School in 1984. On April 26, 1985, she married her beloved husband, Jeffrey “Scott” Boyce in Leonardtown, MD. Together they had two beautiful children, who were her pride and joy. She worked at Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Washington and various Government contractors at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. She loved staying home and spending time with her family, especially her dogs Bella, Angel and Lexi. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and dear friend. She is deeply missed by many. Amber Dawn Jarboe, 22 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on June 5, 2014. She was born on July 7, 1991 in Clinton, MD to Joseph Paul Jarboe of Mechanicsville, MD and Dawn Marie Zinn of Abell, MD. Amber enjoyed everything with her whole heart. Amber enjoyed spending time with her friends, and loved music, animals, and reading. She greeted everyone with a hug, a smile, and “Hey Guys!” She loved fashion, children, and Taco Bell. Amber was very passionate about helping others in any possible way that she could. After graduating high school, she studied esthetics at the Aveda Institute and just received her license to practice in Washington, D.C. She had hoped to return to CSM to pursue a degree in social work with a focus on addictions counseling. Amber worked as a wellness consultant at Massage Envy in Waldorf. Raymond Brent Bowen, 74 of Lusby, MD passed away on June 8, 2014 at his home. He was born in Prince Frederick, MD on July 26, 1939 to the late Raymond E. and Louise Edwards Bowen. Brent graduated from the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music and was an Independent Baptist Minister who served in the local community at several different churches. He was the founder and pastor of Dunkirk Bible Baptist Church. A native of Olivet, MD, he enjoyed spending his free time on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding rivers. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Ann Bowen, father of Clarice Bowen of Lusby, MD and Michele Bayko of Marengo, OH. Grandfather of Andria Campbell, Mindy Bayko, Benjamin Bayko and John Taylor Bayko, great grandfather of Asher Campbell, he is also survived by his brother, Keith Bowen. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday June 11, 2014, 11 AM at Calvert Bible Church in Lusby, MD. Interment will be private. Arrangements by Rausch Funeral Home, Port Republic, MD.

William Charles “Bill” Schaefer, Sr., 66 of Hollywood, MD passed away on June 8, 2014 after bouts of pneumonia. Born on October 24, 1947, in Rockville Center, NY, he was the son of the late William Chapman Schaefer and Marguerite Ruth (Schnaars) Schaefer. Bill graduated from Roosevelt Elementary in Roosevelt, NY and Amityville Memorial High School in Amityville, NY. He joined the United States Navy in 1967, and his first tour was NANEP at Webster Field, MD. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served on the USS Valley Forge, home ported in Long Beach, CA; and the USS Coral Sea, home ported in San Francisco, CA. After his Honorary Discharge from the Navy, he worked as a carpenter for Dobry Construction. He became certified in architectural/drafting and working the majority of his career as an architectural technician for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Patuxent River, MD, with the 32 years of dedicated service. He met the love of his life, Kathryn Laverne (Russell) Schaefer, while working for the Navy. They were married on March 30, 1968 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hollywood, MD. Robbie Daryl Leonard, 54 of Waldorf, MD passed away from a heart attack on June 7, 2014 at his residence. Born September 27, 1959 in Kingsport, TN he was the son of Robert Glenn Leonard and Betty Jean Frye Leonard. Robbie was an electrician. He enjoyed all sports and playing the guitar. The thing he enjoyed the most was spending time with his boys Steve and Hunter. Predeceased by his sister Kimberly Leonard, Robbie is survived by his sons, Steve Leonard and Robert Hunter Leonard; also his parents Bob and Betty Leonard, sister Donna Leonard and nieces Brynn Bales, Demi Lewis, Devin Smith, and Heavins Smith. David John Rau, 69 of Compton, MD died June 3, 2014 at his nephew’s residence after a battle with prostate cancer. Mr. Rau grew up in the Lower Merion Township outside of Philadelphia, PA. He was born on October 22, 1941, the son of the late John F. Rau and Gertrude E. (Turner) Rau. Mr. Rau graduated from Lower Merion High School and Ursinus College earning a BA in History. Mr. Rau retired from the St. Mary’s Board of Education in 1994. He taught for 30 years at Margaret Brent High School and Middle School. He enjoyed farming and growing tobacco on his farm in Compton. He also enjoyed playing pitch and eating crabs. He left the farm to two colleges to create two scholarships for St. Mary’s seniors, at Ursinus and Springfield College, MA. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Rau Freyman, of NJ; his brother-in-law, Robert Dempsey, of PA; three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Rau Dempsey, and his brother-in-law, Al Freyman. Sandra (Sandy) Rose Pectol, 73 of Great Mills, MD, died Sunday June 8, at St. Mary’s Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was born to the late Ira A. and Mary R. Pectol, November 14, 1940, in Washington, D.C. Sandy retired from the State Department in 1988. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Richard and Marylou Pectol and their daughter, her niece, Rachel Pectol. Dorothy Lee Rosenbaum, 65 of Mechanicsville, MD and formerly of Brandywine, MD passed away on June 9, 2014 at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, MD. She was born on November 14, 1948 in La Plata, MD to the late John Ross and Sophie Ann Perrie. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, camping, cookouts, family gatherings, playing slot machines, and driving her school bus. She was a retired school bus driver for Prince George County Schools. In addition to her father, Dorothy was predeceased by her foster son, Leroy Ogg. Herbert Sylvester Seek, (Pop Pop), long time resident of St. Mary’s County, MD., died on Tuesday, June 10th, 2014 at Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Herbert moved to Charlotte in June of 2013, where he resided in an assisted living complex. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Mildred R. Seek, in 1992. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon G. Smith, of Charlotte, NC., and Sandra L. Seek, of Leonardtown, MD; his granddaughters, Regina (Gina) Moore, of Charlotte, NC, and Brandy Tulley, of Leonardtown, MD, and his Grandson, Charles (Chuck) Smith, of Coconut Creek, FL; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth DeVers of Daytona Beach, FL. Betty Lee Largent, 71 of Mechanicsville, MD formerly of Charlotte Hall, MD passed away on June 12, 2014 at her residence. Born December 25, 1942 in Charlotte Hall, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ada Gray Williams and Roger Williams. Betty was the loving wife of the late Ronel Largent whom she married in Leonardtown, MD on August 27, 1965 and preceded her in death on September 17, 1985. She is survived by her son Jaycee (Debbie) Largent of Mechanicsville, MD, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons; Billy Williams and Ronald Largent. Her siblings are, Constance, Douglas, Dickie, Bernice, Sue, James, Jr., Gene, Agnes, Buckey, Sis, Buster, Anna Mae, Hilda, Steve, Linda, Leonard, Ann, and Sonny. CMDR William Frederick “Bill” Beacham, USN, (Ret.) 64 of Lexington Park, MD passed away on June 8, 2014 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Born on October 9, 1949, in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late William John Beacham and Betty Joan Butler Beacham. Bill earned his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s degree from Emery Riddle Aeronautical University. He proudly served in the United States Navy with 32 years of dedicated service before his honorable discharge as a Commander in August 2006. He was employed by the federal government as a program analyst for the past six years. In February 1976, he married his beloved wife, Rebecca Mae Beacham. Together they celebrated 38 wonderful years together. Bill enjoyed being outdoors, especially loving to work in his yard. He enjoyed science fiction, comedy and action movies. He was an avid reader. He travelled extensively for work and pleasure with his wife, spending time in Hawaii, Florida, Virginia, California, Japan, Australia, Spain, Italy and Egypt. Michelle is survived by her husband, Scott Anthony Long whom she married on December 31, 2007 in Leonardtown, MD, children; Camille Neva Alvey, Halei Olivia Long, and Jocelyn Ann Long all of Hollywood, MD, Beverly Buckler of Leonardtown, MD and Ronald Alvey of Callaway, MD, brother Shawn Richard (Angela) Wathen of Coltons Point, MD. Ralph Wendell Hutchins, 93 of Prince Frederick, MD passed away on June 16, 2014 in Dowell, MD. He was born on October 9, 1920 in Prince Frederick to the late Henry H. and Annie Skinner Hutchins. Beside his parents, Ralph is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Naomi Carroll Hutchins, four brothers and five sisters. Ralph was a farmer all of his life, even though he worked off the family farm during business hours. He worked for the Postal Department from 1949 thru 1979, and then went to work for the Calvert County Government as a bailiff from 1989 thru 2004. He was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church and active in various church activities. He was an avid baseball fan especially the Baltimore Orioles. Ralph published a book “My Life on the Farm and Beyond” which left many wonderful memories for his family. He was a devoted family man who will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
