Ellen Marie (Long) Wood, known as Polly, of Leonardtown, died at her home on Monday, September 1, 2014. Born on September 23, 1931, in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of late Walter Evans Long and Agnes Genevieve (Woodburn) Long. Mrs. Wood was self-employed, but now retired, as a St. Mary’s County School Bus Contractor for the nonpublic schools for over 20 years. She is survived by her brother William Daniel Long and his wife Emilie, her niece Catherine Meyers, husband John, and their son Evan, her nieces, Margaret (James) Kopishke, Mary (Thomas) Saenger, and Eleanor (John) Crawford, ten grandnieces and grandnephews, and four great grandnieces. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, sister Tina, brother “Jiggs”, niece, Carol Long her first husband, Walton Turner, who she cared for until his death, and her second husband and devoted companion, Willard Elton Wood, who she married in December 1974and died in 2005. Lawrence Mark Serra, Sr. 71 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away September 1, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born February 18, 1943, in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Lawrence Serra and Edith Natalie Serra. Lawrence served in the United States Army from September 1966 to his honorable discharge in March 1968 during the Vietnam War. He was a dedicated and valued employee of United Airlines as a Ramp Supervisor for 38 years until his retirement in 2002. For the past 8 years he has been a Chef at the Good Earth Health Store in Leonardtown, MD, providing many healthy, delicious foods. On November 12, 1981, he married his beloved wife, Laura J. Serra in Fairfax, VA. Together they celebrated 33 wonderful years of marriage. He enjoyed the great outdoors, which included walks through the woods, fishing, sun bathing and many trips to the beaches, especially the Outer Banks. He was born on October 10, 1944 in Kathmandu, Nepal to the late Krishna Prasad Aryal and the late Rada Devi Adhikary. Niranjan was an internist who was dedicated to his family and work. Harry Oswald Dixon, Jr., 70 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away September 3, 2014 at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., surrounded by his loving family. Born March 20, 1944, he was the son of the late Harry Oswald Dixon, Sr. and Edna Augusta Sauer Dixon. In 1962, Harry graduated from Margaret Brent High School. On July 13, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Lucy Vallandingham at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morganza, MD. Together they celebrated 51 wonderful years of marriage. He proudly served in the United States Army from February 1966 until his honorable discharge in January 1968. He served during the Vietnam War, earning the Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle) Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He was employed by Bell Atlantic Telephone Company (Verizon). He retired as an Engineer with over 28 years of dedicated service in December 1991. Harry loved to be on the water. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and crabbing. Helen “Nanny Pep” Elsie Pepper of La Plata, MD passed away on September 5, 2014. Helen was born to Chancy and Katherine Edwards on July 18 in Washington, D.C. Helen is survived by her loving husband, Lou. They married on June 22 and renewed their vows at the Washington National Cathedral on their 50th Anniversary. Nanny Pep lived life with an openness that included everyone. She enjoyed laughter and passed that along to her children, daughter Teri Gay, son Timothy Lee (Teresa) and son Troy Allen (Yanti). Her grandchildren were especially precious to her: Crystal (Matt), Robert (Sara), Ashley, Gabrielle and Juliette. Bedford Cook Glascock of Solomons, MD, passed away quietly at his home on the morning of September 8, 2014. During his final days he was surrounded by family and loved ones. Bedford was born in Washington, D.C. on February 3, 1930 to William Bedford and Sarah “Catherine” Webster Glascock. They initially resided at Indian Head, then in his early teens moved to the family’s Strathmore Farm in Solomons. He attended Charlotte Hall Military Academy and at the age of 16 enrolled in the University of Maryland, where he joined the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. During College he spent two summers working construction on the Alaskan Railroad. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served for two years, receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant. In 1955, Bedford married his sister’s college roommate, Judith M. Coleman of Silver Spring. The couple resided at Solomons, raising two children. Judy passed away in 1990. After three years he married Annabelle H. Layfield of Princess Anne, who was his wife for sixteen years until her passing. He was born on March 22, 1926 in Calvert County, MD to the late Suzie Hardesty and Benjamin Creston Garner. Gordon served in the Army and was a pipe fitter for the U.S. Government. Anthony “Tony” Pete Gegor, born August 24, 1953, passed from this earth on September 8, 2014 following a 6 ½ year courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Preceded in death by his mother Victoria Lorusso Gegor and father Andrew Gegor, Sr., Tony is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandy Gegor, his children, Charles Anthony Gegor and Victoria Anne Alvey, husband Larry, grandchildren Richard “Ricky” Andrew Gegor, Dustin Grant Alvey, three brothers and four sisters and special friend Chris Haynie. Tony is a graduate of Suitland High School was a skilled mechanic and owned his own independent trucking business. David Clyde Morgan, 67 of Tall Timbers, MD passed away September 8, 2014 at Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 23, 1946, in Detroit, MI he is the son of Martha Korri Morgan of White Plains, MD and the late Clyde John Morgan. Dave spent his early childhood in Michigan and Illinois and in 1956 moved to Forest Heights, MD, then moved to Charles County where he remained until 1998, when he moved to St. Mary’s County. She was born on August 6, 1955 to the late James R. Brilhart and the late Anna Sedor Brilhart in McKeesport, PA. Cathy enjoyed her ’54 Chevy, was a member of the Southern Knights Rod & Custom Club. She was an avid collector of antiques and stuffed bears. Cathy was a John F. & Jacqueline Kennedy enthusiast. Her beloved cats were her passion. What she enjoyed most was spending time at her cottage as well as the beach. She recently retired as a medical registration clerk from Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital due to illness. She earned her Associates Degree in Accounting from Johnson and Wales University. She was employed as a bookkeeper from 1954 to 1997 with various companies. She took a nine year break from work to spend time with and raise her young children. She retired from R. F. Simmons Jewelry in 1997. She was also a certified bartender. Frank Richard Houser, 70 of Hollywood, MD passed away September 10, 2014 at his residence. Born June 10, 1944, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Milton Houser and Pearl Pearson Houser. Frank attended St. John’s Catholic School and graduated from Leonardtown High School. He proudly served in the United States Army in Germany but was honorably discharged three years later for his health. On February 27, 1971, Frank married his beloved wife, Ruth Houser at Trinity Lutheran Church. Together they celebrated 43 wonderful years together. In 1998, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Mary’s College. He was a lifelong seafood harvester. He loved to crab and fish. Katherine Curran Martin passed away from breast cancer on Saturday, September 6th 2014 in Burnsville, MN with her mother by her side. KC was born and raised in Calvert County where she attended Our Lady Star of the Sea school and later, Calvert High School. She spent three of her teenage years in Florida, where she graduated from Venice High School in 1996. One year after graduation, she returned to Calvert County, where she lived until moving to Minnesota five years ago. KC is survived by her husband, Mike Martin and his three children Sami, Chris, and Caity.
