Mary Ethel Barrows, 90 of Charlotte Hall, MD and formerly of Bryantown, MD and Selbyville, DE passed away on November 25, 2014 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. She was born on February 10, 1924 in Benedict, MD to the late Francis L. Stonestreet and the late Annie (Goldsmith) Stonestreet. While raising her children, Mary helped her husband run the family business, Barrows Sunoco, in Hyattsville, MD. Later she went to work as a bookkeeper for the State of Maryland until she retired. Mary enjoyed the beach, line dancing and watching sports. Her favorite teams were the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her son, Gary Alan Barrows; brother, Maurice Stonestreet; and sisters, Margaret Adams and Joan Jameson. George Ralph Clayton, Sr. was born to Ross Edward Clayton and Hattie Mae Clayton (nee Blackwell) of St. George Island, MD on October 15, 1928. He departed this life on November 27, 2014 at his residence in Piney Point, MD. George Ralph Clayton, Sr. was known as Ralph by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, community member and leader. As a child Ralph’s father taught him the importance of working and education. As a teenager he worked at the Swann’s Restaurant to buy school clothes. In addition, he learned to be a Waterman by assisting his father and older brother Floyd Edward Clayton. This skill allowed him to gain employment and partake in recreational activities on the water. He was an avid reader and historian. She was born on September 29, 1957 in Washington, D.C., to the late Joan Marie Kessinger and Joseph Robert Ritchie. Robin, also known affectionately as Buggie and Maw Maw, moved to Calvert County in 1999 from Colonial Beach, VA and was a Pharmacy Tech for a number of years. She met her true love Roy “Ed” Warring in Oak Grove, VA 24 years ago. They had a special kind of love that many people will never experience. Judith Marie “Judy” Ewell, 70 of Hollywood, MD, died on December 1, 2014 at Chesapeake Shores Nursing Center in Lexington Park, MD.Born on November 4, 1944, in Randolph Field, TX, she is the daughter of the late Lt.Col. Thomas Ewell and Louise Miller. Judy enjoyed drawing, painting, listening to music, television and cheesecake. She was a fan of Elvis Presley and Patrick Swayze. Her favorite place to travel was to Disney World in Orlando, FL, where she vacationed every year with her family. She was a thrill seeker, the bigger the ride the better. Daphene Roberts Jones, 78 of Fort Washington, MD, formerly of Accokeek, MD, passed away November 28, 2014 at her residence. Born April 13, 1936 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of William Henry Tippett and Daphene Smallwood Tippett. Her first job was at the Department of Agriculture. She was later employed as a paralegal for Hogan and Hartson, Attorneys-at-Law. She retired in 1998. Daphene was a charter member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Accokeek, MD. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed the Nationals, Senators and the Redskins. A crossword aficionado, she down-loaded the NY Times puzzle and completed it in ink every day. She also enjoyed bowling and travelling. Kathleen (Kitty) Virginia McDonald, 91 of Mechanicsville, MD, died peacefully, at home, on Thursday, November 27, 2014. Kathleen was born on May 20, 1923 in Richmond, VA. She was the daughter of Thomas L. and Nannie C. Hall. She attended school in Richmond where she met and married Wilmot (Buddy) G. McDonald, Jr. in 1946. They moved to Washington, D. C. in 1950, where they both studied photography. They moved on to Alexandria, VA in 1953 where they remained until 1997 when they moved to Maryland to live with their granddaughter. She had a great love for many animals but especially enjoyed cats and kittens. Kathleen loved children and spent the majority of her life caring for children whose own parents were required to work to support their families. She loved and treated these children as her own. All are grown now but many of the families remained friends with Kathleen and enjoyed commemorating with her from time to time. Betty Ann (Harding) Drury was born October 31, 2014 to the late Frederick Leonard Harding and Lillie Mae (Downs) Harding. She was born in Sandgates, MD where her parents worked a farm. Growing up she helped on the farm and later at her parents business, Leonard Harding’s Grocery Store. Betty met her husband Bernard J. Drury, Sr. through a friend and they were married January 29, 1946. They celebrated 59 wonderful years together before his passing on April 28, 2005. They had four children: Bernard J. Anne Coyne Tennison, 84 of Leonardtown, MD, entered into Eternal Life on November 29, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 7, 1930, in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late George Francis Coyne and Marjorie Mulderig Coyne. Anne is a 1948 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and later from Towson State Teachers College. She was a dedicated teacher at Mother Catherine Spalding and Father Andrew White schools for 33 years before her retirement. She loved and always remembered all the children she taught. On December 29, 1951 Anne married her beloved husband, James L. Tennison at Holy Face Catholic Church in Great Mills, MD. Together they celebrated 62 wonderful years together. She was a fan of the Orioles and Capitals. However, her greatest pride and joy was her family, whom she loved to spend her time with, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was born on April 30.1938 in Prince Frederick, MD to the late Milton D. and Blanche Ramsey Bowen. Mr. Bowen was a tobacco farmer for most of his life, and he loved the farm life, hunting and his hunting dogs. In later years he went to work for Dean Lumber and stayed there until his retirement. Born on July 14, 1927, in Bladensburg, MD, she is the daughter of the late William Mangum and Ida Smith Mangum. Nora retired from the federal government, working at the Pentagon as a file clerk after many years of dedicated service. She was a humanitarian and loved caring for her family and children. John Edward Butler, Sr., better known as “Sam” to his family and friends, departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014. He was born on December 12th, 1945 to and raised by the late Charles Sylvester Butler and Martha Ellen Countess in Maddox, MD. He was married in 1972 to the love of his life, Juanita Butler. He graduated from Banneker High School in Loveville, MD in 1964. After graduation, Sam was drafted into the United States Army and served until 1967 receiving an honorable discharge. Sam accepted the Lord in his life at Gospel Tabernacle of Prayer (G.T.O.P.) in 2013. He loved attending church and participating in the praise and worship service. He also enjoyed the sermons preached by Bishop LeRoy McDuffie and the other ministers. He could remember the messages preached from Sunday to Sunday. Sam was a master carpenter, a builder and truly a “Jack of all Trades”. He could build anything and did it with perfection and pride.
