Charlotte Morris, 89 of Leonardtown, MD, died on December 4, 2014 at Solomons Nursing Center, Solomons, MD. Born on October 11, 1925, in Staunton, VA, she is the daughter of the late Milton Howard Lambert and Mary Grace Irwin Lambert. On April 21, 1946, Charlotte married her beloved husband, Malcolm Vivien Morris. Together, they celebrated 62 wonderful years together before his passing in November 2008. Charlotte was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She was an excellent cook. She and her husband spent many hours taking care of their organic farm. She was an avid BINGO player and loved to go to yard sales. She spent many hours croqueting, and enjoyed entering her handmade afghans and vests in various county fairs, where she amassed quite a collection of prized ribbons. Above all, her family was her pride and joy, and she loved to spend her time with them. Catherine passed peacefully from this life the morning of December 4th, 2014. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Catherine Shubrooks was born in St. Inigoes, MD to Samuel Shubrooks and Juliet (Milburn-Bennett) Shubrooks. Beginning her education in a one-room schoolhouse in St. Inigoes, MD, Catherine quickly proved to be an intelligent and decisive child. She continued her education at Jarboesville High School in Lexington Park, MD. Following her education, Catherine worked in a variety of jobs from housekeeping to dry cleaning to laundry work. As a child, Catherine was a faithful member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church where she sang on the choir and participated in numerous church activities. Throughout her life, Catherine faithfully lived the scriptural edict, Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever your hands find to do, do with all your might.” At the age of 25, Catherine met the love of her life, Raymond Eugene Chisley. After only 5 years of marriage and much to Catherine’s dismay, Raymond met an untimely death. John Demko, 89 of Dameron, MD passed away on December 4, 2014 at his residence. Born March 2, 1925, in Dameron, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph Demko, Sr. and Veronica Dvorchak Demko. He attended school in Ridge, MD. In 1952, John married June Marie Sharrow, and they lived together in Dameron, MD celebrating over 58 happy years of marriage. He was a brick and block contractor who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, woodworking/painting, and camping. He and June treasured card nights with friends. John was predeceased by his wife, his eldest son, John Robert “Bobby” Demko (Barbara), his parents, and his siblings: Ann Stancil (Carl) formerly of Fayetteville, NC and Joseph (Mary), formerly of St. Inigoes, MD. He is survived by his daughter Debra Drury (Joe), son Jimmy Demko (Rosalie), daughter Diane Burr (Scott), and daughter Dawn Demko (Tony Humenik). Paul Vincent Woodland, 77 of Mechanicsville, MD, was called home on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD. He was born May 22, 1937 in Mechanicsville, MD, he was the son of the late Daniel Woodland and Agnes Harris-Woodland. Paul was married to the love of his life Doris “Regina” Holt, whom he cherished. His Queen Regina preceded him in death on May 12, 2005. As well as his beloved son, David Dwight Woodland on June 6, 2005. In addition to his parents, wife and son he was preceded in death by his brother Daniel “Steve” Woodland. He was a self-taught mechanic, one of the best in St. Mary’s County within the last 50 years. He could make the worst sounding car hum once he put his magic touch on it. Over the last 20 years, Paul mentored his son, Anthony to become a great mechanic as well. Catherine Ada Ridgell, 74 of Ridge, MD passed away peacefully on December 5, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. Born May 1, 1940, in Great Mills, MD, she was the daughter of the late Leo Cullison and Madeline Ridgell Cullison. She attended school at St. Michael’s School in Ridge, MD. In 1956, Catherine married Carl E. Ridgell. Together they shared 25 years of marriage prior to his death in 1981. Catherine was a cafeteria worker for many years with the St. Mary’s County Public Schools prior to her retirement in 2009. Catherine enjoyed creating seasonal crafts for her family and for her daughters to sell at local craft fairs. During the cold winter months, she was often found sitting at the table with a jigsaw puzzle and enjoyed the challenge of finding that “tricky” piece. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and she looked forward to her Christmas Movies on Hallmark, UP and Lifetime Television. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Born September 29, 1935 in Second Creek, WV, she was the daughter of the late Leander Wesley Hall and Dennie (Sturdivant) Hall. Bertie is survived by her children, Ron Hagelin (Sally) of LaFayette, LA, Ed Hagelin (Doris) of Lusby, MD, Debbie Doyle (Bobby) of Gaithersburg, MD, Dorothy Stonestreet of Prince Frederick, MD, Sharon Wilson (John) of Lusby, MD and Randy Hagelin (Regina) of Lusby, MD; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Andy Hall of Lusby, MD, Brad Hall of St. Leonard, MD, Mike Hall of Lusby, MD, Faye Bowen of Prince Frederick, MD, and Barbara Etzel of Severna Park, MD. Born August 11, 1958 in Prince Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Edward Hoover Hagelin, Sr. and Bertie Mae (Hall) Hagelin who preceded him in death two days prior on December 5, 2014. Danny was a warehouse manager for Direct Mail for thirty two years. He was a Washington Redskins fan and enjoyed antiques. He was an avid Coca Cola memorabilia collector. Charlotte Marie Ellis, 85 of Leonardtown, MD, died on December 6, 2014 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD. Born on August 12, 1929, in WV, she is the daughter of the late Charles E. McCoy and Ella Elizabeth Bennett. Charlotte is a 1948 graduate of Great Mills High School. She was employed by Bank of America as an executive assistant until her retirement. She also spent many years involved in local politics in Syracuse, NY. She enjoyed entertaining, gardening and was a gourmet cook. She also enjoyed playing BINGO at Little Flower School in Great Mills, MD. Charlotte is survived by her brother, Gary Wayne McCoy of Leonardtown, MD; her nephews, Charles Curtis Peterson of Highlands, NC and Rhodes Timothy Andrews of Elizabethton, TN; and extended family. James was born on December 24, 1935 in Washington, DC to the late James Harrison Carter and the late Rose Cecelia McPherson. James spent time in the United States Air Force. Later in life, James was a Cab Driver in the Maryland and Washington, DC areas. James is survived by his sons, James C. Young, Jr., Dean Young, Vincent Young, daughters, Adrienne Williams, Jacqueline E. Johnson and Tomiko Hankerson, and brother, Ronald McPherson. Muriel Agnes Pitman Craven died peacefully on December 9, 2014. She is survived by her son Thomas Edward Craven and his wife Linda Craven. She is also survived by her daughter Cynthia Craven Richardson (CA). Pre-deceasing her was her oldest son Robert Lee Craven, Jr. who had lived with his wife Ann Peacock Craven in Orlando, WVA. Preceding her was her loving husband of 58 years Robert Lee Craven. Mrs. Craven had four grandchildren: Stephanie Richardson Baxter, Stuart Richardson, Kimberly Craven Cosler, and Thomas Andrew Craven. In addition Muriel Craven had 9 great-grandchildren: Savannah, Lindsay and Connor Craven; Julia and Jase Richardson; Hannah and Katie Baxter; Ava and Hal Cosler. For many years Muriel Craven was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, DE. She said that her one constant in life as she moved from place to place was her church. She was involved with many different projects through her church and volunteered to assist the needy. Muriel Craven suffered from medical conditions that necessitated her living at Asbury-Solomons in Solomons, MD, near her son Thomas and his wife Linda. Elbert Ignatius “Tart” Hayden, age 95 of Leonardtown, MD died on December 7, 2014 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. Born in Leonardtown, MD on May 28, 1919, he was the son of the late Spencer Ignatius Hayden and Ann Lee Williams Hayden. He was the loving husband of Agnes Marie Hayden. Hayden attended Leonard Hall and St. Mary’s Academies. In 1936 he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1939 he volunteered for service in the United States Coast Guard. Hayden reported for active duty on September 29, 1939, he served the next six years on several ships and many locations. Five years of his duty was at sea. Hayden received his basic training at Curtis Bay, MD. After his training he went aboard a Coast Guard Cutter and did patrol duty in the North Atlantic, home port Staten Island, NY. After six months Hayden was transferred to another ship and continued patrol duty in the North Atlantic, home port New London, CT. This lasted until the end of 1940. Coffey of Dillwyn, VA. and William A. Stone, Sr. of St. Mary’s County, MD. Lori is survived by her 3 children, siblings; Jennifer DeLima, Trish Steinruck, Sara Taylor, and Jason Thompson. She was preceded in death by her brother Billy “BB” Stone, Jr. She graduated from Chopticon High School in 1996; and received a degree from the University of Maryland. John G. Mattingly, Jr. “Jocks”, (63) went to his eternal rest Friday, December 5, 2014 at his home in Pocomoke City, MD. Jocks was born on April 10, 1951 in Leonardtown, MD. He is the son of the late John Gibbons Mattingly, Sr. and Martha Lucille Montgomery Mattingly. Jocks graduated from Chopticon High School in 1969 and worked at Mattingly Auto Service on Hollywood Road where he developed his mechanical skills from the best, his father John and his Uncle Matt. Jocks was employed early in his career as a draftsman during the construction of the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant and later as an engineer for Mantech. Jocks liked fishing, crabbing, scalding oysters, and watching NASCAR races. He loved stuffing and cooking a good ole Southern Maryland Stuffed Ham, playing the banjo Earl Scruggs-style and going to a good bluegrass jam. Jocks knew how to party and when to lay low, and knew every verse from Waylon, Haggard, and Coe. Well versed as well with Tom Rush, John Prine, and Bob Dylan, Jocks liked both Linda’s and Little Feat’s versions of “Willin”. Ann Frances Lee, of Callaway, MD passed away on December 11, 2014 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Born November 5, 1937, in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Walter James and Helen Watt McConnell. After graduation from Cambria Heights High School, Ann accepted a position with the U.S. Navy Department, before retiring to raise her children. On April 7, 1956, she married her beloved husband, William Jackson Lee. Together they celebrated 42 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in November 1998. Ann was very talented, learning to embroider at the early age of seven. She taught herself how to crochet and later learned to quilt, making many beautiful pieces. Exercising on a regular basis for the past 30 years, Ann enjoyed jazzercise at the Garvey Center and Loffler Center. She also enjoyed canning, baking, going to flea markets and taking daytrips. Her flea market finds led to an expansive collection of Depression glass and juice reamers. She enjoyed traveling to Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Florida. Thomas (Pete) Joseph Kidwell, Sr., 82 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on December 11, 2014 in Cheverly, MD. Thomas (Pete) was born in Croom, MD on May 14, 1932 to the late Benjamin Howard Kidwell and the late Elizabeth Virginia Boswell Kidwell. Thomas (Pete) worked as a Master Carpenter/Locksmith with the Prince George’s County School Board. He retired in 1982. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and just keeping busy. After the passing of his beloved wife, Frances Lucille McKenzie Kidwell, he remained living in the family home with his two sons Thomas and Benjamin in Mechanicsville, MD. In addition to his parents and wife Frances, Thomas (Pete) was predeceased by his brothers, John Kidwell, Benjamin Kidwell, James Kidwell, sisters, Marjorie Richards, Mary Smith, Pearl Thomas. Thomas (Pete) is survived by his sons, Thomas J. Kidwell, Jr., Benjamin Francis Kidwell, his brother, William Kidwell, and his sisters, Sarah Hutchinson, Bessy Smith and granddaughter, Elizabeth Louise Kidwell.
