Bruno Capparilli, USN, (Ret.), 79 of Callaway, MD died Monday, May 4, 2015 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. He was born on July 21, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the late Vincenzo Capparilli and Goldie Buffano. Bruno proudly enlisted in the United States Navy and gave over 21 years of dedicated service as an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class until his retirement in May 1974. While in the Navy he travelled extensively, with some of his favorite destinations being the Philippines, Spain, and Taiwan. After retirement, he was employed for over 30 years as an Airplane Mechanic with DynCorp, Inc. On August 27, 1994, he married his beloved wife, Linda Capparilli in Callaway, MD. Together, they celebrated over 20 wonderful years of marriage. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, skeet and clay shooting, and gardening. He was a beautiful woodcrafter, making many pieces, including birdhouse, benches and squirrel feeders. He had an extensive record and decanter collection. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies. He loved serving his country and his long haired German shepherd, “Lady.” However, his greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Joseph Howard Gatton, Jr., 67 of Dameron, MD died May 5, 2015 at Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Leonardtown, MD. He was born on October 2, 1947 in Dameron, MD to the late Joseph Howard Gatton, Sr. and Anna Delores Tephabock. Joseph proudly served in the United States Navy from January 3, 1969 to December 8, 1972. He was employed by ManTech as a dedicated software technician until his retirement. On September 27, 1997, he married his beloved wife, Cynthia Ann Kay Gatton. Together they celebrated over 17 wonderful years together. He was very savvy in electronics and enjoyed working with them. He travelled extensively with his job and enjoyed visiting many countries, particularly, Rome, China, Japan, and Tel Aviv, Israel. He also enjoyed boating and crabbing with his father. He had an extensive coin collection. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 255 and a certified deep sea diver. Michael “Mike” Christopher Fitzpatrick, 61 of Hollywood, MD passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 6, 2015 at his home. Born on April 27, 1954, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Patricia Millar and Eugene Fitzpatrick. Mike was the loving husband of Stephanie Fitzpatrick. Mike is survived by his children: Kathleen Hall (Kevin) and Marykate Fitzpatrick both of Hollywood, MD, and 1 grandson; Ethan Suthard. Siblings; Brett Millar of Callaway, MD and Gayle Worth of Glen Burnie, MD. He is also survived by his two fur babies, Honey, Sweetie, and his special friend Bubba. Mike was preceded in death by his brother Matthew Fitzpatrick. Mike worked as a serviceman in construction for the Washington Gas Light Company for 33 years. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Robert “Bobby” Scott Slaughter, 43 of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Lusby, MD, passed away May 4, 2015. Born September 2, 1971 in Silver Spring, MD, he was the son of James Slaughter and Violet Cates Maxfield. Bobby worked as a plumber for Plumbers Local #5, Camp Springs MD. He grew up in Golden Beach, MD and while in school played football for Chopticon High School and Leonardtown High School. Bobby enjoyed all types of fishing, vegetable gardening and cars. He was a wonderful coach, helped so many children fulfill their dreams in playing football, that’s what he was best at (SYB PANTHERS, LUSBY MD). He wanted to restore a 1989 Mustang with his son. The other love of his life was Ceasar, his dog. Vincent Charles “Vinnie” Warring, 85 of Waldorf, MD passed away at his residence on May 6, 2015 in the company of his family and close friends after a long battle with lung disease. Born November 5, 1929 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late James T. Warring and Martha L. Danforth Warring. Vinnie was a lifelong employee of James T. Warring Sons, Inc.; his father’s barrel and drum company and served as the president since 1976. Vinnie was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bryantown. He was concerned for the Catholic schools in the Southern Maryland region and served on the Archdiocese School Board and was President of St. Mary’s Bryantown Parent Teacher Association in the 70’s. As a young man, while attending St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC, he earned the nickname of “Cheetah” for his running speed and endurance. He also enjoyed the Yo-Yo and displayed his talents often. His passion for electric trains was evident by his collection and enjoyment of smiling faces while sharing them with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born on April 2, 1928 in Great Mills, MD, he was the son of the late Violet Elizabeth and Cleveland Jerome Coombs. Glenwood was the loving husband of Elizabeth Ann Coombs whom he married on September 12, 1953 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Washington, DC. Glenwood is survived by his children: Glenwood Joseph Coombs, Jr. of Park Hall, MD, Gary James Coombs (Mary) of California, MD, Gregory Jay Coombs (Joanie) of Leonardtown, MD, 4 grandchildren: Glenwood J. Coombs, III. (Jay), Christy Marie Coombs, Jamey Lee Coombs, and Regan Elizabeth Coombs, and 3 great grandchildren: Brennen Tyler Coombs, Skyler Danielle Coombs, and Addison Lorraine Coombs. Joyce Careme Young, a caterer and lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, died on May 6, 2015 peacefully in her sleep at the age of 59. Joyce was born in Leonardtown, MD on September 7, 1955 to Francis, Sr and Julia Young. She attended St. Mary’s County Public Schools and was a 1974 Graduate of Chopticon High School. She worked for the federal government until she resigned in 1984 to become the fulltime care giver to her youngest son. Joyce first love was catering and cooking for family and friends. She enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzle books, listening to her oldies, reading all genres of books, watching her favorite soap opera Young and the Restless, caring for her grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends. Joyce was a woman of strong faith and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Joyce is survived by her father Francis X. John Philip Christman of Leonardtown, MD passed away peacefully on May 9, 2015 in Baltimore, MD. Born on October 22, 1943 Alexandria, VA, he was the son to the late Catherine Just and Julian Hackney Christman. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn Leigh Christman. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mrs. Linda ‘Kay’ Christman; son John Philip Christman, Jr. of New Braunfels, TX; daughter Catherine ‘Cassie’ Corinne Edwards and her husband Chad of Spring, TX; brother J.J. Christman and wife Betty, Athens, TN; Charles ‘Charlie’ E Christman and wife Joyce, Hollywood, MD; three grandsons and nieces and nephews. John severed in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on June 25, 1965. He was hired by the Maryland State Police on January 3, 1966. He was initially assigned road patrol duties after graduation from the academy in St. Mary’s County. John had many different assignments to include transporting State dignitaries and criminal investigations. While performing his road patrol duties he started his fixed wing flying lessons. Cdr. John E. Colleary, Jr. USN (Ret.) 88, of Bradenton, FL, died April 17, 2015 at his home with his family. Born January 23, 1927 in Malden MA to John E. Colleary and Marion York Colleary. He married on December 20, 1952, Shirley Ann Evans at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Jacksonville, FL. Cdr. Colleary graduated from Forrest Hills High School in New York. He attended Fordham University before being selected for the U. S. Naval Academy where he graduated with the class of 1950. He earned his naval aviator wings in Pensacola, FL and reported to VA-105 in Cecil Field, FL. While there he met and married his lovely wife, Shirley. He then went to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. and graduated with a BS in Aeronautical Engineering. He was then accepted to Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston where he received an MS Degree in Aeronautical Engineering/Weapons Systems. Next he had a tour aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington before reporting to Flight Test at Patuxent River in 1959. Lucille (Lou) Cook Williams, 89 of Lusby, MD passed away on October 15, 2014 in Washington, DC. She was born on September 9, 1925 in Winston Salem, NC to the late Thelma Grubbs and Joseph Benjamin Cook. She was the loving wife to Jack Williams for 55 years whom preceded her in death in 2003. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her favorite pastimes were; gardening, flower-arranging, decorating, and crafts. She loved animals as well as all living things and, of course, the Olive Garden. She is survived by her loving daughters, Carol Lynn Thomas (Edward Lee) of Lusby, MD, Beth Ann Phifer of Lusby, MD and Jill W. Stackhouse (Christopher Bryan) of Middlebury, VT. CPOS Donald Nathan Lord, USN (Ret.), 74 of Hollywood, MD died May 10, 2015 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 13, 1941 in Tennille, GA to the late John Nathan Lord and Audrey Mae Wyatte. Donald proudly enlisted in the United States Navy after having served in the United States Coast Guard and gave 27 combined years of dedicated service before his retirement as a Senior Chief in August 1985. During his service with the Navy, he served in Guam, Iceland, Greenland, and Italy. After retiring from the Navy he was employed another 18 years by various government contractors providing logistical support for the Navy. On November 21, 1987, he married his beloved wife, Marjorie Ann Hayden. Together they celebrated over 27 wonderful years together. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and watching NASCAR racing having attended many races over the years. He was a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale, Jr. He enjoyed taking trips in his RV, especially to Florida and Tennessee. Robert W. Hamilton, II, 43 of Baltimore, MD, formerly of Lexington Park, MD, passed away on May 9, 2015. Tragically, Robby passed away as the result of an accident on May 9, 2015, on his 43rd birthday. He was born May 9, 1972 in Portsmouth, VA. He was the third child of Robert Wayne and Jane Collins (Schwebke) Hamilton of Lexington Park, MD. Robby’s younger days were spent in Norfolk, VA until his parents moved to St. Mary’s County in 1983. Robby attended Ridge Elementary, Spring Ridge Middle School, and Great Mills High School. He worked in construction for several years and specialized in roofing. He worked locally for Lincoln Roofing and then for Ruff Roofers in Baltimore, MD. Robby loved music. He was accomplished in playing numerous string instruments but favored the guitar. His musical enthusiasm was partially satisfied in his younger years by organizing and playing in several short-lived bands that rehearsed and performed in the garage. Raphael “Ray” Gibbons Connick, 73 of Aquasco, MD passed away at Genesis of Waldorf, MD on May 11, 2015. Born December 4, 1941 in La Plata, MD, he was the son of the late Leslie Earl Connick and the late Mary Louise Tola Connick. Ray was an avid golfer. He enjoyed gardening and fishing at Chalk Point. He provided many fruits and vegetable to friends and family from his garden. Ray retired from Pepco after working there for thirty years as a welder. He also served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1966. Ray was predeceased by his sister, Ginny Goshorn Sasse. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Mary Connick; his sons, Scott N. Born June 24, 1974 in La Plata, MD, she was the daughter of John Richard Bowling, Jr. and Barbara Ann Simpson Bowling. Joy enjoyed being with her girls, playing golf, softball and spending time with her family and friends. She played in the “over 30” softball league. Her life revolved around her kids and their softball and soccer games, the beach and having a good time. Alice Elizabeth Bateman, 87 of St. Leonard, MD passed away on May 9, 2015 at Solomons Nursing Center. Born April 29, 1928 in Wimber, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Helman and Sarah (Harr) Helman. Alice was a volunteer for the Calvert Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Alice is survived by her children, Cheryl Moore (George) of Greenbelt, MD and Joseph Bateman (Pam) of Lusby, MD; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Bateman, and her daughter, Eva Alhambra. Islay Prentice Kesecker, “The Admiral”, 85 of Solomons, MD passed away on May 12, 2015 at Calvert Memorial Hospital. Born October 29, 1929 in Yonkers, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lester Prentice and Islay (MacDonald) Prentice. Islay was a member of the Patuxent Pearls and the Sweet Adelines. She was a volunteer at the Calvert Marine Museum and enjoyed boating, knitting, and sewing. Islay volunteered in multiple capacities within the Asbury community. She especially enjoyed spending time with good friends and her growing family. Islay is survived by her children, Elizabeth Proctor (Douglas) of New Market, MD, and James Kesecker (Elisa) of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Meghan, Max, Mitchell, and Marshall of New Market, MD, Matt (Melissa) of Walkersville, MD, James A.
