On Sunday, May 31, 2015, Charlotte Spalding Frere, wife of Charles R. Frere, Sr. of Bel Alton, MD, passed away after a brief illness. Born on November 9, 1925, in Drayden, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Harry Spalding and the late Mary Violet Tippett Spalding. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Mary Catherine Rice, Margaret Shymansky, Christine Hough, and Helen Reynolds; brothers, Henry Spalding, John C. Spalding and Thomas Spalding; and son-in-law, William A. Toombs, DDS. In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Charles R. Frere, Jr. (Diane), Mary Kaye Frere Toombs, Joseph Larry Frere, Thomas Keith Frere (Tae), and Pamela A. Frere; her sister, Mary L. Wise; six grandchildren; five great-granddaughters; and a number of in-laws, nieces and nephews. Charlotte graduated from Glasva High School, and was proud of the track and field medals she received there. Upon graduation she worked for the FBI as a fingerprint specialist. She later worked for and retired from the Charles County School System having worked in several elementary schools. Ruth Ann Gatton, 70 of Hollywood, MD formerly from Sudlersville, MD, passed away on May 30, 2015 at her home. Born on August 1, 1944 in Galena, MD, she was the daughter of Evelyn Roe of Sudlersville, MD, and the late Walter Roe. Ruth was the loving wife of the late Steve A. Gatton, Sr, who she married on April 25, 1970 in Worton, MD, and whom preceded her in death on October 4, 2013. Ruth is survived by her children: Steve Gatton, Jr. (Chrissy) of Hollywood, MD, Dale Gatton (Becky) of Lusby, MD, and 3 grandchildren: Alex Gatton, Jocelyn Gatton, and Devon Gatton. Siblings: Nancy Lister of Church Hill, MD, and Walter Roe, Jr. of Sudlersville, MD. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Roe of Sudlersville, MD. Ruth graduated from Maryland School for the Deaf in 1963, and moved from Kent County, MD to St. Mary’s County, MD in April 1970. She was a wife, mother, and homemaker. Born on October 3, 1947 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Laura Mae Knott Ball Spalding and Charles Henry Ball. William was the husband of Barbara Joan Wilde Ball whom he married on September 21, 1985 in Callaway, MD. William is survived by his children: Christy Yager (Roland) of Lusby, MD, Brandon Ball of Leonardtown, MD, Jennifer Fitts of PA, and 6 grandchildren. Siblings: Sara Woodburn of Leonardtown, MD, and Gary Ball of OH. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Anne Russell and Charles Ball. Bill graduated from Leonardtown High School in 1965, and was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD. Robert C. (Bob) Combs, 72 of Leonardtown, MD died on June 1, 2015 at his home in Leonardtown, MD. Born in Leonardtown on December 23, 1942 he was the oldest of seven children born to Frank A. and Dorothy Schott Combs. Upon graduation from Ryken High School in 1960 he joined the United States Air Force serving in Bitburg, Germany from 1960-1963. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Leonardtown where he worked for ten years with his father in the Frank A. Combs Insurance Agency. Later he went on to form B & J Nursery with his brother John Combs and then later formed Robert Combs Builder and the Newtowne Construction Company becoming known to many as “Builder Bob”. Known for his love of sports, he excelled in softball and skiing but when it came to golf however, it was always “wait til next year”. A much loved husband, father, son, brother and uncle, John A. Beach, Sr., 58 of St. Pauls, NC, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015. He had bravely confronted and valiantly fought cancer. He was born January 14, 1957 in Washington, DC and resided in St. Pauls, NC for the past eight years. John was a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He was a hard working man, that provided and cared for his family immensely. John retired from the Washington, District of Columbia Government as a Master Pipe Fitter. When he wasn’t working, John loved to spend his time with his family and go fishing. Georgeanne Fisher of California MD, died May 30, 2015 at age 67, due to complications from COPD at Washington Hospital Center. She was born July 16, 1947 in Camden, NJ to George and Anne Stewart. Georgeanne found the true love of her life, Herbert Wayne Fisher in 1979. They married Aug 12, 1983 at the Church of the Nazarene in Hollywood, MD. Wayne preceded her in death on May 15, 2006. Georgeanne worked for a small local newspaper before taking a civil service job with the federal government. She recently retired after 30 years of service. Her life was defined by her love of family and service to others. Georgeanne was a long time Sunday school teacher, assisted with Vacation Bible School, participated in bible studies and was a lifetime member of the VFW, where over the years she served as president, Chaplin and treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary. Through the VFW she supported many charities and volunteered at the Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall. Georgeanne always found ways to care for people. Tautalagia “Tuni” Sotoa Numera, age 86, went to Heaven on Monday, June 1, 2015. Tuni was born February 27, 1929, in Pago Pago, American Samoa, the son of the late Taua & Siao Numera. He proudly served his country in the USMC for 27 years, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. Serving combat tours in both Korea and Vietnam, he was awarded several medals for valor; to include, the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, Bronze Star (Combat V), and Purple Heart (with Gold Star). Tuni continued his commitment to our country’s safety, working as a security officer for various government contractors and serving as a member of the Marine Corps League. Tuni had a smile and a story for everyone he met, was loving and generous with friends and family alike. His door was always open and his table always had room for one more. Tuni is survived by his wife, Eleanor; children, Zina Trinidad, Cynthia Winoski, Anthony Trinidad (Cathy), Jeffrey Trinidad (Kathy), Michael Numera, Elena Poe (Timothy), and Christina Numera-Segreti; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Aluese and Apisa. Jeannette Marie “Nanny” Foster, 50 of Chaptico, MD, passed away June 3, 2015, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with diabetes. Nanny was born on July 16, 1964 in Herndon, VA to Marie Cecil and the late Melvin Foster. In 1982, Nanny graduated from McDonough High School. In 1990, she earned a Certificate in Secretarial Sciences from the Community College of Southern Maryland; though she never pursued a career as a secretary. She had a love for cooking and caring for livestock. She worked as a cook in many Southern Maryland restaurants; where she enjoyed watching others enjoy her delicious cuisines. Her greatest career accomplishment was working at White Plains Livestock Farm. There she bought, sold and cared for livestock for over 10 years. Nanny had a natural love for animals, especially horses. Beginning in her early childhood and throughout her life, she enjoyed riding and competing in speed and special events throughout Maryland. She participated and supported local 4-H horse clubs; which gave her the opportunity to work with children. Kathryn B. (George) Greenlee, 94 of New Oxford, PA died at Hospice House of St. Mary’s with family at her side. She was the wife of the late Edward M. Greenlee, who died December 26, 2002. Kathryn was born on November 20, 1920 in Fairport, VA, the daughter of the late Ira Franklin and Nettie Inez (Jones) George. Kathryn was a member of Emory United Methodist Church in New Oxford, PA. She was a member of the Marion Oxfordites, NAFRE, Alzheimer’s research, Project Head Start and VFW axillary. Kathryn is survived by one brother, Donald George of Reedville, VA. Born July 10, 1924 in Virginia, she was the daughter of James Benjamin Freeman and Martha Ney Freeman. Virginia was a retired cafeteria cook for the University of Maryland. She enjoyed country music, especially Hank Williams, Sr., Tammy Wynette and Conway Twitty. She loved driving, shopping and “FeFe”, her poodle. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Francis Patrick (Frank) McCabe, 77 of Solomons, MD died peacefully on June 2, 2015, due to complications from cancer. He was born December 7, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI and was raised on the family farm in rural Whitewater by his parents, Thomas Francis McCabe and Gertrude Ann Malone McCabe. He graduated from Whitewater High School in 1955 and from Parks College of St. Louis University in 1958, with a degree in Aeronautical Administration. He had a career in the federal government, both in St. Louis and in Washington, DC spanning 41 years, retiring in 1999. The last 27 years were spent in the Office of International Affairs at the Federal Aviation Administration, where he worked directly with foreign countries, particularly Russia and China, on a wide range of international aviation issues. His two passions, especially in retirement, were active involvement in local Republican politics for the betterment of his county, state and nation; and sailing his boat, the Kelly Ann, in the Chesapeake Bay and down the Intracoastal Waterway to Florida with first mate Nancy. David Claude “Pee Wee” Abell, 69 of Hollywood, MD passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2015. Born on January 13, 1946 he was the son of the late James Dawkins and Mary Violet Dean Abell. Pee Wee is survived by his sister Catherine V. “Ginny” Arnold of Mt. Morris, MI, and numerous nieces and nephews who took care of him daily. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Agnes “Binky” Taylor, Michael S. “Stanley” Abell, Joseph Bernard Abell, Sr., James Thomas Abell, Sr., Frances P. “Patsy” Burnette, Stephen Ignatius “Steve” Abell and James D. Abell, Jr. Pee Wee worked as a laborer at the Charles Lumber Company in LaPlata, MD. Pee Wee helped to raise Donna Walls and Donald Gray. He was “Pop Pop” to Andrew and Megan Walls and Donald M. Gray. He enjoyed listening to his Blue Grass music and the many family gatherings held at his house. Born October 2, 1940 in Drayden, MD, he was the son of the late Margaret Adams Biscoe and Joseph Walter Biscoe. Jack is survived by his wife Nannie Louise Biscoe whom he married November 1, 1963, in St. George’s Catholic Church, children: Donna (Terry) Sexton of Great Mills, MD, Kenneth (Debbie) Biscoe of Leonardtown, MD and Jaclyn (Matt) Harris of Lexington Park, MD, siblings: Carolyn Wooden of Lusby, MD Charles Biscoe of Greensboro, NC, grandchildren: John (Rose) Biscoe, Brandi (Chris) Radcliffe, Michael Biscoe, Kayla Sexton, great-grandchildren; Christopher Radcliffe, Wyatt Biscoe, Ayden Radcliffe and Jase Biscoe. In addition to his parents Jack was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Biscoe. Bleclic and the late Grace Agnes Moore Bleclic. Patricia was the loving wife of Charles “Chuck” F. Beaver, Jr. and is also survived by her children: Jonathon Lanier of Churchton, MD, Matthew Lanier of Avenue, MD, and 2 grandchildren; Austin and Avery. Siblings; Joan Posey of Indian Head, MD, Mary Frazier of FL, Kathleen Symborski of Spotsylvania, VA, and Lawrence Vallandingham of Morganza, MD. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

James Daniel Alvey, Jr., 56 of Charlotte Hall, MD, passed away on May 28, 2015 at his residence. Born on October 1, 1958 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late James Daniel Alvey, Sr. and Margaret Ann Abell Alvey. Mr. Alvey graduated from La Plata High School in 1976. In 1980, he enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard, where he attained the rank of sergeant, and proudly served his country for over 30 years. He served tours in Bosnia, Cuba and Afghanistan. Danny was also an accomplished welder. He enjoyed sports and classic cars. Mr. Alvey is survived by his mother, Margaret Ann (Peggy) Alvey; sisters, Carolyn Jean Gillingham (Stephen) and Patricia E. Alvey; brother, Michael Alvey (Barbara); and nephews, Kenneth Gillingham, Brett Gillingham and Jared Alvey. Family will receive friends for James’ Memorial Gathering from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Michael Patrick McLoughlin, 24 passed away tragically on June 3, 2015, at his row house residence in Washington, D.C. not far from Dupont Circle. He was born on September 20, 1990 in Fairfax County, VA. to parents Michael McLoughlin of Leonardtown, MD and Mindy Johnson of Valley Lee, MD. Michael attended Leonardtown High School where he excelled in academics and soccer. He graduated from Leonardtown in 2008. He continued his education at the University of Maryland and pursued his passion for sports; playing for various soccer teams throughout the DC area. Michael graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland, College Park, with Bachelor Degrees in Finance and Economics in 2012. Michael was a driven, intelligent young man, with an amazing ability to make people laugh. The family is devastated that he is gone. The outpouring from the community in response to Michael’s death highlighted his compassion, spirit and the many strong friendships he shared in his life. Louise Mary Bohannon, 85 of Leonardtown, MD, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 1, 1930 in Edwardsville, PA to the late John Leonard and Mary Fabiny. Louise was a dedicated teacher at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic School in Camp Springs, MD from 1964 to 1977. On July 10, 1980, she married her beloved husband, Harvey Lynn Bohannon in Arlington, VA. Together, they enjoyed 19 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 1999. She was an extraordinary entertainer. She hosted many gatherings and dinners for family and friends. She enjoyed having company. She was an excellent cook with many specialty dishes, including chicken ‘n dumplins. She also enjoyed taking many family vacations to the beach and lake house. She found the ocean enjoyable and relaxing. Her hobbies included, playing the slot machines, dancing, especially the jitterbug, and working in her flower garden. She was an avid card player. Michael Francis “Mikey” Knecht, an accomplished chef and life-long resident of La Plata, MD, died unexpectedly on June 3, 2015 at the age of 42. Michael is survived by his parents, Michael and Christine Knecht; his brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Mandy Knecht; his sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Kenny Myers; his sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Shaun Harker; and his nephews, Trenton, Griffin, Ian, and Garrett. Michael was born in Washington, DC on May 1, 1973. He was a precocious little guy and a natural comedian – always keeping his family in stitches. He had an early love and respect for all genres of music which followed him through his lifetime. While living in Baltimore, he co-founded the Game Two record label which worked with local, national, and international acts. He also co-edited their magazine Slow Ride. Better known as “Colonel Mike,” he mentored and inspired many musicians. John James (Jack) McAllister, 92 died peacefully on June 1, 2015 at Solomons Rehab and Care Center, Solomons, MD. Jack was born on May 5, 1923 in Dallas, TX to Frank Aloysius McAllister and Margaret Elizabeth Gleason McAllister. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Helen Startt McAllister, whom he married on August 6, 1946 (which he proclaimed the “hottest day of the century”). He is survived by six children, nine grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. His children are John J. Daniel Joseph Hyland, Jr., 65 of Tellico Plains, TN, passed away on June 5, 2015 in Mechanicsville, MD. He was born on January 24, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the oldest of five children born to Daniel Joseph Hyland, Sr. and Rose Diamond. Daniel proudly served his country in the US Army for 23 years, retiring as the Command Sergeant Major, Ft. McNair, Washington, DC. During his army career, Daniel served two tours overseas, 10 years with the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC, Special Operations at Ft. Belvoir, VA and he was the recipient of the Bronze Star. After his army career, he went to work for the postal service as a letter carrier in Arlington, VA then transferring to Titusville, FL where he retired in 2011. After his second retirement, Dan and Di traveled and camped their way to Denali National Park, Alaska where they both served as camp hosts for a summer. Finally, Dan and Di settled down in the mountains of TN where they had a beautiful home built and Dan enjoyed riding his motorcycle AKA “The Blue Eagle”.
