Theodore Astor Viverette (Ted) of California, MD, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015. He was born May 13, 1932 in Washington, DC and was the beloved son of the late Roy and Beulah Viverette, and brother to the late Mary Lambert, Sidney Viverette, and Powell Viverette. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Viverette, his three daughters, Mary Shatrowsky, Lisa Viverette, and Patricia Hoover, his two sons-in-law, David Shatrowsky and Paul Hoover, two grandchildren, Lauren and Thomas Hoover, and his dear sister, Lucy Hicks. Ted grew up in Hyattsville, MD, and had many adventures from getting hit by a car at age 6 to getting thrown into a barbed wire fence from an ex-racehorse as a teenager. Ted was also an excellent pool player and enjoyed many games with family and friends. He met his lovely bride, Alice, in 1952, and they wed on June 20, 1953. He joined the Marine Corp during the Korean War and was a dedicated veteran. Ted held many jobs to support his family including banker, police officer, head of security at Kings Dominion, but ultimately worked in dosimetry at Baltimore Gas, and Electric Company where he retired in 1990. Thomas Francis Brown, Sr. 89 of Mechanicsville passed away June 17, 2015 at his residence in Mechanicsville, MD. Born July 11, 1925 in Bradbury Heights, MD, he was the son of William George Brown and Annie May Grimley Brown. During the start of World War II, Thomas joined the Navy as a Signalman on the ship LCI (Landing Craft Infantry) 680. After the war, he remained employed by the Navy and eventually retired as an Air Force Master Sergeant. After serving our nation, he began a second career with the State of Maryland, Department of Parole and Probation from which he retired after twenty years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Freemasons, Camp Springs Lodge #227 and was a HAM radio operator. He enjoyed baseball, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends. Predeceased by his parents; wife, Helen F. Brown; son, Thomas Brown, Jr. and two brothers. Thomas is survived by his partner, Iris Smith; sons, William G. Brown, M.D. (Janet F. Elizabeth Louise “Betti” Russell, 55 of California, MD died June 19, 2015 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital at Leonardtown, MD. She was born on September 25, 1959 in Washington, DC to the late James E. “Bert” Russell, Sr. and Louise Hayden Cullins. Betti graduated from Steven Knolls School in Wheaton, MD. She was employed by Charter House, a senior living center, in housekeeping. She was also previously employed by Vintage Values in Leonardtown, MD. She enjoyed participating in Special Olympics, bowling, basketball, cycling, swimming, and bocce ball. She also attended the Center for Life Enrichment and participated in many community activities. Betti is survived by her siblings, Brenda Dunn of Lufkin, TX, Beverly Hester (David) of Thornton, CO, and James E. “Bud” Russell, Jr. (Lori) of Clements, MD; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Catherine Adell Gaylor, 80 of Waldorf, MD, passed away at Bridge Point Hospital in Washington, D.C. on June 20, 2015. Born September 11, 1934 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Lottie (Lancaster) Conway. Catherine grew up in Southeast, DC. Throughout her life, some of Catherine’s employment included the P.G. County School System and the Days Inn in Waldorf, MD. She was an avid Redskins fan, enjoyed gardening with her plants and flowers and socializing with her neighbors. Her family meant the world to her and Catherine was a vibrant outgoing life force that touched many people. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond S. Gaylor, Jr.; daughter, Peggy R. Gaylor; sisters, Rose Adams, Jean Gray, Joan Goodwin, and brothers, Eugene Conway, Jr., Russell Conway and James Conway. Catherine is survived by her sons, Michael A. Gaylor (Diane), Perry C. Edward “Eddie” Thomas Johnston, 68 of Drayden, MD passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 21, 2015. Born on August 24, 1946 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Margaret Lucelia Bean Johnston and Thomas Edison Johnston. Eddie was the loving husband of the late Carolyn Ann Johnston whom he married on June 3, 1989, and who preceded him in death on February 21, 2010. Eddie is survived by his children; Sandra Johnston Adkins of Lexington Park, MD, Edward (Tommy) Johnston of Bowie, MD, 6 grandchildren; Amanda Johnston, Tommy Boothe, Nikki Dulaney, Jackie Johnston, Lexi Adkins, and Edward Thomas Johnston, II.  Six great grandchildren: Savannah Hardesty, Kaedence Hardesty, Wyatt Dulaney, Gannon Dulaney, Avery Boothe, and James Abell, III, and loving companion for the past 4 years Carolyn Anderson. Patricia Ann Hilton Raley, 83 of Ridge, MD, died Saturday, June 20, 2015, at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, MD. Born September 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harvey W. Hilton and Philomena Roach Hilton of Park Hall, MD. Having lost her mother in her first year, Patsy grew up in Scotland, MD with her Aunt Mary and Uncle James Roach and her adopted sister, Virginia Roach Waggoner. She attended St. Michael’s elementary and high school. At 18 she married Joseph Francis Raley of Dameron, MD. Francis and his older brother Ross, who married Patsy’s older sister Mary Frances, then bought Raley’s Market from Harry Raley and ran this store until 1978 when they sold it to their sons, Raymond and Daniel Raley. Patsy loved her flowers and provided arrangements for many weddings and funerals in the area. In 1970 she and her sister opened “Sister’s Place” just north of the entrance to Pt. Lookout State Park. Their motto was “We got what you forgot”. They sold camping supplies in the summer and Christmas decorations in the winter until 1989 when the area flooded and they lost everything. Joseph ”JW” Glen Wood, 29 of Mechanicsville passed away June 20, 2015 at his residence in Mechanicsville, MD. Born June 9, 1986 in Prince George’s County, MD, he was the son of Glen F. Wood and Jennifer Tipton Wood. Joseph enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing basketball with his buddies. He loved his children and spending time with his family. The Redskins drove him nuts but he was a faithful fan! Joseph is survived by his children, Brooklyn, Austin and Jaxon Wood and he loved his stepson, Blake Higgs as much as his own, Mother Jennifer Tipton Wood, Father and Stepmother, Glen and Lisa Wood; sisters, Amanda Wood, Sarah Robinson, Shyanne Wood, grandparents, Alvin and Gloria Jean Wood and Bob and Sue Keesee. Marion Della Jones, 86 of St. Leonard, MD passed away on June 23, 2015 at her home in St Leonard, MD. She was born on May 23, 1929 in Prince Frederick, MD and was the last of eight siblings that were born to Percy and Mary Ramsey Mister. Marion was very feisty and a hard worker. She worked at Calvert Memorial Hospital for 25 years. In her younger days, she liked to go listen to her friends play music in a country band. Most important thing to Marion was spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marion is predeceased by her husband, John Wm. Jones, Sr. Mother of Charles Mister, Darlene Williams-Rogers, Betty Jane Jones, Barbara Ann Jones, John Wm. Jones, Jr., Mary Follin, and Janice Marie Jones. Grandmother of 20, she is also survived by 21 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Oliver Franklin Green,”Sonny”, 94 of Prince Frederick, Maryland passed away June 22, 2015 in Leonardtown, MD. He was born on November 1, 1920 in Hyattsville, MD to the late Wm Franklin and Mary Milton Green. Sonny severed in the Army Corp of Engineers during WWII. He was an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus 2809. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 217 in College Park and retired from Arnold Parreco and Sons Excavating and Grading. Predeceased by his wife, Pinkie Green, Sonny is survived by his sons; Edward J. Green and his wife Tracey and Bernard G. Green and his wife Wendy. Grandfather of Shannon Green Smith, Lauren and Casey Green, he is also survived by great grandchildren Deric and Samuel. Born October 22, 1932 in Hollywood, MD, to the late Joseph Michael “Pappy” Miedzinski and Eva Josephine Miedzinski. Raised in Hollywood and moved to Hughesville in 1962. She drove a school bus for Keller Bus Service before being hired as a school bus driver for the Charles County Board of Education from which she retired after 30 years. In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, George P.Saunders, Jr.; son, David A. Saunders (Terry); siblings, James W. Miedzinski, Cecilia Taylor, Mary Agnes Huntt, Joseph W. Russell, Mary L. Miedzinski, Elizabeth Stone, Joseph Miedzinski, Francis X. Miedzinski. Margaret is survived by her sons, George M. Saunders, Sr. (Shirley), Joseph C. Saunders (Betty), William F. CDR Robert Gene “Prof” Struth, Jr. (USN, Ret.), 61 of Hollywood, MD passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at University of Maryland Medical Center. He was born on January 20, 1954 in Wichita, KS to Robert Gene Struth and Ronna LaShell Struth of Derby, KS. Prof earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in Aeronautics and Astronautics, graduating first in his class. He had attained five Master’s Degrees in National Security, Defense System Management and Aeronautical Engineering. He proudly served in the United States Navy from May 1976 to his honorable discharge in October 1997 as a Commander, with over 21 years of dedicated service. He was from a young age passionate about flying, logging in excess of 10,000 flight hours throughout his lifetime in over 150 types of aircraft. Prof flew F-14 Tomcats for the Navy as a Fighter Pilot. In his career he logged over 2000 flight hours in the F-14, and made 399 carrier landings, with 99 of them being at night. Barbara Sue Fowler, 69 of Lusby, MD, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 9, 1945 in Kenova, W.V. the late Charles and Pauline Hundley. Barbara spent her earlier years as a homemaker, raising her sons. Once they were adults she became a Certified EMT. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She especially liked to bake delicious treats with her sons. Her famous chocolate pie was a favorite. She was very giving and compassionate enjoyed helping people in need. Her greatest love was for her family, whom she enjoyed spending as much time as possible with. Barbara is survived by her sons, Dwaine R. Fowler (Carey) of Lexington Park, MD, Stephen F. Fowler (Angie) of Lusby, MD, and Phillip “Andy” Fowler (Amanda) of Port Republic, MD; and seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Larry Fowler. Born on August 12, 1928 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late James Milton Rowe and Mary Boswell Imirie Rowe. Imirie was the loving husband of Marie Vallandingham Rowe, whom he married at St. Joseph’s Church in Morganza, MD on September 17, 1955. Together they celebrated 59 wonderful years. Imirie is also survived by his two children Lawrence I. Susan Ames Zierman, 69 of Lusby, MD, formerly of Washington, DC and Port Washington, NY, passed away on May 27, 2015 at her residence. Born June 14, 1945 in Port Washington, NY, she was the daughter of the late John William Whaley and Sofia Smiros Whaley Kleinert. Susan graduated from Paul D. Schreiber High School in 1962. She pursued a piano major at Eastman School of Music until 1964, Carnegie Mellon University until 1965 and the Peabody Conservatory of Music with Leon Fleischer until 1966. She pursued a Political and Social Sciences major at Johns Hopkins University until 1967. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from George Washington University in 1970, and she received a Master of Social Work from Catholic University of America in 1974. Susan married her second husband, Frederick William Zierman on November 24, 1979 in Minneapolis, MN. Susan’s earliest passion was for music and it continued to be important to her throughout her life. Professionally, she was driven to address issues of social justice and civil rights. Shirley Christine Dickey, 80 of Hollywood, MD passed away June 25, 2015 at the Solomons Nursing Center at Solomons, MD. Shirley was born April 28, 1935 to loving parents, Elmer Aloysius and Elizabeth Anne (Bean) Stone who lived in the town of Pearson, MD along with her 2 sisters, Betty Ann, Mary Ellen, and brother Elmer. The town of Pearson was located on the property now owned by the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. After the Navy assumed their property, her family moved to Leonardtown where her father continued his tenant farming. Shirley is pre-deceased by her parents, and her brother Elmer. After graduating from Margaret Brent High School, Shirley worked for the AT&T Telephone Company as a telephone operator, then as a teacher’s aide to kindergarten classes at Banneker Elementary School in Leonardtown. Shirley married James Aubrey Mayor, Sr. (1956) and together they had four children – James A. Mayor, Jr. (Theresa), Brian Mayor, John Mayor and Anne (Mayor) Knott.
