Sarah Gibson, 92 died peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, June 28 at the Sagepoint Senior Living Services in La Plata, MD where she lived under the care of a skilled and compassionate staff for a little over a year. Prior to coming to Sagepoint Sarah enjoyed the love and warmth of her daughter Ilene and son-in-law Ken Robinson who shared their home with her for many years until she needed continuous, professional attention. After the death of her beloved husband Richie in 1994, Sarah joined her older son Donald and his wife Darlene in their home before Ilene and Ken’s new house was built. Sarah deeply loved and selflessly served her family; Richie, Donald, Darrell and Ilene, and was welcoming and generous to everyone she encountered. Perhaps her growing up in an orphanage in Asheville, NC from the age of six until 16 reinforced for her the importance of family and nurtured an instinct to serve others, qualities that persisted throughout her life. There, she cooked for the legions of children in the home and picked up many practical skills that she put to good use in adulthood. Upon leaving North Carolina, Sarah was embraced by her Uncle […]
