Elizabeth (Betty) Catherine Agpaoa, age 83, of Hughesville MD, passed away on October 7, 2015 at her home after a long illness. Born December 18, 1931 in Washington DC, raised in Ardmore, MD she was the daughter of the late Thomas Calvin Jones and Julia Zabinski Jones. Betty was a homemaker who loved and raised six children. She enjoyed traveling, history, crab cakes, and being with her family and friends. She was also an animal lover and was especially fond of chickens, horses and snow leopards. Predeceased by her brother Robert L. Jones and son William Agpaoa, she is survived by her husband of 61 years Delano (Sonny) Simon Agpaoa; sons Joseph Anthony Agpaoa and Delano Thomas Agpaoa; daughters Julia Anne Gargano, Elizabeth Marie Sanders and Karen Jane Smith; brother Donald C. Wallace Briscoe Berry, 88 of Valley Lee, MD, was called to eternal rest on Friday, October 9, 2015 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. Wallace was born on December 13, 1926 in Oakville, MD to the late Milton and Annie (Gray) Berry. He was the tenth of eleven children and received his education in St. Mary’s County Public Schools. In 1952, he met his loving wife Genevieve Berry. From this union seven children were born and he also raised three of his brother’s children. Wallace was a loving and dedicated member of Hollywood Methodist Church of Hollywood, MD. He was a farmer and worked at the Naval Air Station at Patuxent River, MD until his retirement in 1989 as a Pest Control Exterminator. Wallace loved his family, dancing, farming, listening to gospel music and most of all, he loved people. Anyone who came in contact with him instantly called him “Uncle Wallace”. One of his favorite pastimes was being in his garden from sunrise to sunset. Everybody who knew him wanted to sample his garden. Graves and Kathleen (Unkle) Graves of Leonardtown, MD. On November 14, 1969 she married her husband of 45 years, Chester M. Seaborn, Jr. in Upper Marlboro, MD. She is survived by Chester, her brother, Richard (Junior) Graves, of Valley lee and sisters Barbara Quade of Hollywood and Gloria (Jean) Knott of Lexington Park. Upon Graduating from Central High School in Capitol Heights, MD she later resided in Cheltenham, Prince Frederick and Brandywine with her remaining years spent in Mechanicsville, MD. Janice was a retired Inventory Management Specialist with the US Air Force. Henderson and the late Louise Reid Henderson. Charles joined the U.S. Navy in 1941, serving as Seaman Second Class. He was a Charter member of the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and also a Mason at the St. Columbia Masonic Lodge #150 in La Plata. He enjoyed being with family, his dog snoopy, and traveling during his retirement years. He and his father were the owner/operators of The Henderson Ferry which transported vehicles across the Patuxent River until the Benedict Bridge was built in1951. She was born March 31, 1924 on St. George Island, MD, to the late Edward Ross Henderson and Alma Regina Robrecht. On December 14, 1951, Mary married her beloved husband, James Maurice Lumpkins at St. George Island United Methodist Church. Together they celebrated over 57 wonderful years together before his passing in June 2009. She was blessed with loving family, friends and a church family that all meant so much to her. Marquita Cherie Shalane Wimms, affectionately known as Quita to family and friends, was born on August 28, 1983 to Anthony Wimms, Sr. and La’Verne Granger in Junction City, Kansas. Fort Riley. Marquita transitioned from this earthly life into eternal life on Saturday, October 3, 2015. She was educated in New York’s public schools, North Carolina public schools and Calvert County public schools where she graduated from Patuxent High school in 2002. She did numerous extra-curricular activities such as dance team, step team, and was a statistician for basketball and football. She also played flag football outside of school. Wilmer Pershing Roland, 96 of Friendly, MD passed away on Monday October 12, 2015.> Wilmer is survived by his wife of 74 years, Gene Melissa Roland; son, Wilmer Ronald “Ron” Roland and his wife, Mae of Dickinson, TX; daughter, Shirley Ann Buckler “Nee” Roland and her husband, Lewis; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Wilmer met his wife, Gene when she came to DC to work for the government prior to WWII. They married in June of 1941. Wilmer was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the 1306 Combat Engineers in General Patton’s 3rd Army. His regiment entered England, landed on Utah Beach a few days after the initial invasion and fought the Battle of the Bulge. He traveled all the way to Budapest where he saw Russian women troops wearing bandoliers over their white uniforms. He was in Vienna for VE Day and made his way to Marseille for troop transport home but was redeployed to the Philippines and Japan. Wilmer was a good story teller and if asked would share remarkable memories of his war time adventures. At the age of 94 he was interviewed by “Witness to War”. Douglas Franklin “Doug” Dove, 74 of Prince Frederick, MD passed away on October 12, 2015 at his residence. Born February 7, 1941 in Prince Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Elmer Mertin Dove, Sr. and Genevieve (Elliott) Dove. Doug graduated from Calvert High School in 1959. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman Second Class. Doug was an administrative assistant for the Navy Purchasing Office in Washington, DC for fifteen years. He loved all dramatic arts and loved to sing at church, for funerals and for weddings. Douglas loved his family. He was always attentive to his nieces and nephews and always remembered the birthdays of his family and friends. Lawrence, Sr. of Mechanicsville, MD. Jimmy is survived by his daughter Alexis M. Lawrence of King George, VA, and sister Tessa Garner of Charlotte Hall, MD. He was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident, and graduated from Chopticon High School in 1996. Jimmy worked for A. M. Briggs as a meat cutter; he enjoyed golf, tennis, working out, and loved go cart racing. Born November 19, 1948, in Lakewood, OH, he is the son of the late Joseph Louis and Elizabeth McSweeney Modic. Tim received his Bachelor of Science from Xavier University, following it with a degree in dental surgery from Case Western University School of Dentistry. He completed his dental residency with the U.S. Army in Fort Jackson, S.C. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a dental officer in Korea and Colorado until his Honorable Discharge in 1977. He opened his private practice, the Academy Dental Care in Mechanicsville, MD in 1977 where he worked in general and cosmetic dentistry. On January 31, 1976, he married his beloved wife, Faith Modic. Together they enjoyed over 39 wonderful years of marriage. His hobbies included reading, riding his Harley, and golfing. Born March 11, 1940 in Washington, D.C., she is the daughter of the late Raymond C. and Laura N. Taff. Tish was a school bus driver for many contractors in St. Mary’s County for 14 years. She also worked for Waring and Associates and managed the Take It Easy Ranch Campground. She was very active in SMCWSL, where she was the official score keeper for the league.
