Lt Col Robert “Bob” Neil Coble, 82 It is with great sadness we announce that Robert Neil Coble passed away unexpectedly on July 12, 2016 after a stroke. Bob was born December 16, 1933, in Anderson, Indiana, to Robert W. and Leone Bussell Coble. He graduated from Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was an Indiana state high school wrestling champion. In 1954, Bob joined the United States Air Force and served his country for the next 20 years—a military career that included combat in Vietnam, assignments to the Presidential Support Unit, and the responsibility of flying President Nixon to China, on February 21, 1972. The flight to China was the first time a President had visited China. During the Vietnam War, Bob was the lead pilot responsible for flying Secretary of State Kissinger to and from the war-ending negotiations held in Paris, France. Bob’s last flight was February 27, 1973, when he flew Secretary Kissinger back to the United States after the Paris Accords were signed by the two nations’ representatives. Gerald “Jerry” E. Seabold
Gerald E. (Jerry) Sebold passed away on Thursday, July 14 at his home in Chesapeake Beach, MD surrounded by his family. Jerry was born in 1928 and, as a young boy, accompanied his family to Washington, DC. He graduated from Gonzaga College High School and then entered the U.S. Army. After completing his military service he married his high school sweetheart, Rita Boteler, and shortly thereafter entered the printing business. He remained in the printing business throughout his career and retired as the Comptroller of the U.S. Government Printing Office. After retiring in 1985, He and Rita moved to Bethany Beach, DE and enjoyed their time socializing with friends, playing bridge, volunteering and hosting their large extended family. In 2001, they moved back to the area after Rita became ill. During Rita’s prolonged illness, Jerry became her primary care giver in their home. Throughout his life, Jerry was a devout Catholic and spent a good deal of time demonstrating his faith by volunteering his services to the church in various roles, including lector, CCD teacher, and CCD administrator. Thomas “Tommy” Newton Gibson III, 74, passed away with his wife by his side on Monday, July 11, 2016, at his home in Phenix City, Alabama after a battle with cancer. He was born to Ella Young-Gibson and Thomas Newton Gibson Jr. on July 23, 1941 in Calvert County, Maryland. Tommy graduated from Calvert High School in 1959 and remained in his hometown of Huntingtown working the family’s small farm part-time with his father and brother Sammy for many years. Tommy accepted a position with General Woodworking Corporation starting as a Carpenter. He remained working there for 30 plus years, retiring as a Carpenter/Forman in 2010. A master carpenter, Tommy built his own house on the Gibson family’s Cox Road property and lived there until 2015. In his free time, Tommy enjoyed working on home improvement and repair projects, tinkering with engines, attending Columbus Lions indoor football games for which his son Jason is head coach, watching classic television shows and spending time with family and friends. Mary Agnes Hall, 79 of Callaway, MD passed away on July 15, 2016 at her son’s residence surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on August 22, 1936 in Leonardtown, MD. She was the daughter of the late Charles N.A. Combs and Agnes Eva Aud. Mary was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. She married her beloved husband, Benjamin Carl Hall, Sr. They celebrated over 60 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in August 2015. She loved spending time with her husband and family on their farm. She was an excellent cook and often prepared large meals for the family. She enjoyed canning the crops her husband grew each year. Joseph Osias George “Joe” Cormier, 91, of Lothian, passed away July 18, 2016. He was born June 21, 1925 in New London, CT to Joseph F. and Mary Alma (Champagne) Cormier. Joe joined the United Sates Navy in 1943 and met Laura Gibson while stationed at PAX River Naval Air Base. Joe and Laura married in 1946 and made their home in Lothian. Joe was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. In his leisure time Joe enjoyed the Baltimore Orioles, wrestling, chocolate ice cream and hot dogs. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his wife Laura Roberta Cormier in 2007. He is survived by his daughters Debra R. Gregory Nathaniel Newberry, Sr. passed away on July 17, 2016 at his residence in Charlotte Hall, MD. Gregory was born in Washington, D.C. on November 21, 1957 to the late Hudson N. Newberry and the late Rosa Lee Pendelton. He was a graduate of Spingarn HS & Howard University. He retired as an Army Officer. He enjoyed traveling, riding horses, playing cards and all games of chance, dancing, singing, writing songs, listening to all genres of music, relaxing in the hot tub, shooting hoops, driving his convertible Mercedes SL500, cracking jokes, hosting pig roasts and entertaining friends and family at home, remodeling the house, fixing things for others – using “MacGyver” out-of-the box problem solving solutions, making people feel special and that what they said and thought truly mattered. Robert “Shot” Vincent Young
On July 18, 2016, Robert “Shot” Vincent Young, also known as “Shot” was called home to be with his heavenly Father. Robert was born in Budd’s Creek, Maryland to the late Julia Susanna Bowman-Young on April 5, 1926. He received his formal education in the St. Mary’s County Public School System. Robert served in the United States Army during World War II and the Pacifica Asiatic War. He went to work at the Naval Ordnance Station, Indian Head, MD as an Ordnance Mechanic. On April 19, 1953, Robert married his childhood sweetheart Gertrude Agnes Greene and from this union of 63 years they have eleven children. He was predeceased by his son, Phillip N. Young and granddaughter, Tonya Werner. To carry on his legacy he leaves behind his wife, Gertrude, his sons, Thomas and Clifton M. Greene, William A., and George V. Richard Wohlfarth passed peacefully after a long illness on July 20th. He was the son of the late Willard Wohlfarth and Catherine Wohlfarth. Rick served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to May 1966. He began working at the Evening Star Newspaper and worked until May 1977 as a Division Manager. He was the Sales Manager for Gannet Newspapers in Poughkeepsie, New York in 1977. He left in 1978, accepting a position as Assistant Circulation Manager for Donrey Media’s Hawaii Tribune Herald in Hilo, Hawaii. He was made Circulation Manager in 1980. In 1983 he was made Circulation Director in Vallejo, California for the Vallejo Times Herald. Rick returned to Hawaii as the Circulation Director. In February 1993 he was named Circulation Director in Waldorf, Maryland for Chesapeake Publishing. The Washington Post bought the newspapers in 2001. He remained in his position until retirement in 2008. In 1995 he met the love of his life Yong Cha, they were together until his death. Nickolas Alan Hurd, 25, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016. Born March 22, 1991 in Clinton, Maryland, Nickolas was the son of Duane Allen Hurd and Janet Renee Davis. Nickolas is survived by his parents, grandfather Gerald W. Davis and grandmother Ksenia Davis. He is also survived by his uncle, Ronald A. Davis and aunts and uncles, David and Becky Burke, Nick and Janet Bayat, Ted and Caroline Bayat, Branko and Sue Bayat and many other relatives and friends. Nickolas was an outgoing, helpful and caring man. He enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing darts, detailing cars, and going to the race track. He was a wonderful friend to all he met. Robert (Bob) Wesley Boyd, Jr., age 68, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Georgetown University Hospital in the arms of his loving family. Bob was born September 20, 1947, in Roanoke, Va. to Robert and Dorothy Robelen Boyd. After attending William Fleming High School, Bob went on to Virginia Tech where he graduated in 1969 with an Aerospace Engineering degree. On April 29, 1972 Bob married Karen Leigh Wright and they shared 44 beautiful years in both heart and mind. In June of 1979 Bob and Karen had a wonderful son, Wesley Woodson Boyd. Since childhood Bob was fascinated by airplanes. He pursued this passion for almost 50 years as an Aerospace Engineer at Pax River. He attended the US Navy Test Pilot School and was Test Pilot Engineer of Class 69. His early work included projects with the A-4 Skyhawk, A-6 Intruder, and F-14 Tomcat. Later in his career he was one of the first engineers to work on drones, culminating his career when his last project, the X-47A Pegasus, was successfully launched and recovered from an aircraft carrier. Born August 31, 1938 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Mountz Deffinbaugh and Anne (Ott) Deffinbaugh. Bob graduated from John Carroll High School in 1956 and from the University of Maryland in 1962. He was married to his wife Pat on September 9, 1961 in Pikesville, MD. Bob moved to the county from Silver Spring, MD in 1995. For thirty three years he was a teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools, retiring in June of 1995. Keith Edward Gilger, 57, of Owings passed away July 20, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born March 23, 1959 in Washington, D.C. to Frank Edward and Anne Ernestine (Duncan) Gilger. Keith was raised in Camp Springs and graduated from Crossland High School in 1977 and then attended Virginia Tech University. He was employed as a construction inspector working on bridges and roads. Keith married Karen Buckley on October 11, 1986 in La Plata and they lived in La Plata and West Virginia before settling in Owings in 2000. In his leisure time Keith enjoyed golf, cooking, sports and spending time with his family and friends. He was also an avid fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies. She was the daughter of the late James Martin Stone, Sr. and the late Janice Gaynelle Murphy. Ann is survived by her husband of 27 years, Truman Reid Hancock; her children Tony Wayne Stone and his fiancé Tiffany, Diane Megan Hancock, Truman Reid Hancock, Jr. and her only granddaughter, also her pride and joy, Aimee Lynne Hancock. Also surviving Ann are her three brothers, James Patrick Stone, Justin J. Robinson, James Martin Stone, Jr. and her three sisters, Janice Mathews, Helen Louise Stone and Mary L. Andrew Bryan “Birdman” Smith, 28, of Chesapeake Beach passed away on July 21, 2016. He was born February 12, 1988 in Washington, D.C. Andrew was raised in Chesapeake Beach and graduated from Huntingtown High School in 2006. He was employed at A. Duie Pyle as a forklift operator and truly enjoyed his work and co-workers. Andrew was an avid video gamer, loved to play poker, and listen to music. He loved all animals and has always had pets. He was very passionate about sports–he could talk with anyone about any sport! He loved family gatherings, hanging with friends, playing basketball at the rec center, and doing anything outdoors, fishing, hiking, going to the beach.
