Richard Pirkner “Dickie” Childs, 74, of Chesapeake Beach passed away July 9, 2018 at his residence. He was born October 21, 1943 in Washington, D.C. to James Bennett and Eleanor Atala (Pirkner) Childs. Dickie was raised in D.C. and graduated from Bladensburg High School. He married Reba Wheeler in 1967 and they lived in Silver Spring until moving to Chesapeake Beach in 2000. Dickie was employed as an electronic engineer for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center before becoming self-employed. In his leisure time Dickie enjoyed yard sales, collecting, cars, CB radio, and cigars. Dickie is survived by his wife Reba W. Childs of Chesapeake Beach, grandchildren Haven Childs and Hendrix King, daughter in law Caley Childs King, son in law Brent King, sister in law Bonnie Shifflett, brothers Rudolf and Robert F. Childs, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons Richard Bennett and Randy James Childs and brothers James, Daniel, Phillip, and Herbert Childs.

Bradley Allen Shefka, 64, of Owings passed away at his residence on August 18, 2018. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 8, 1953 to Skinder and Janet (Hanson) Shefka. Brad was raised in Detroit where he attended Frank Cody High School. He attended the Ohio Institute of Technology and married Catherine Houston on June 17, 1972, who preceded him in death in 2012. He married Deborah Holloway on June 20, 2017. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served for 17 years. As an enlisted person he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. While serving he attended Old Dominion University graduating with an engineering degree. After attending officer candidate school, he received his commission as a Coast Guard officer. During his career he served on a Coast Guard icebreaker and on the US Coast Guard Cutter JARVIS (WHEC-725). He ended his military career at the rank of Lieutenant. His decorations included National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon w/2 Bronze Stars, and Sea Service Ribbon, and the Commandants Letter of Commendation w/Gold Star. Francis Aubrey Dickerson, Jr., 55 of Hollywood, MD, departed this life peacefully, being called to eternal rest on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Moochie, as he was affectionately known, was born to the late Francis Aubrey and Agnes Loretta Dickerson on August 11, 1963. Moochie was educated in the St. Mary’s County public school system, graduating from Chopticon High School in 1982. He was employed at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant right after high school. Moochie went on to work as an Explosive Worker at the Naval Ordnance Station, in Indian Head, MD. He went to work at Mechanicsville Building Supply until he had to stop due to health issues. Moochie is best remembered for his witty sense of humor, gentle demeanor, and his love for his family and pets. He simply loved his wife and his kids and did what he needed to ensure that they were taken care of. All of his “”beautiful nieces”” were his favorite. His nephews were his road dogs. Born on October 16, 1947 in Portland, Maine, he was the son the late Evelyn Enman Carpenter and Ralph Stanley Carpenter. Bob was the loving husband of Shirley Carpenter, whom he married on May 31, 1970 in Rockville, MD. Bob is survived by his children; Tracy A. Carpenter (Michelle) of Valley Lee, MD., Curtis W. Carpenter of Mechanicsville, MD., Sheryl R. Carpenter (Fiancé Kurt) of Denver, CO. 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Siblings; Charles Carpenter, Suzie Stevens, and Lola Black. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Patricia Jacques, Shane Dudley, Ricky Dudley, and Mark Dudley. He graduated from Cole Brown Academy in 1966. Bob served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. Agnes Cecelia Holley entered eternal rest on September 2, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Md. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 11, 1921 to the late Lee Herbert and Mary Thomas. Agnes was affectionately known to her family and friends as “Grandma”. She enjoyed family gatherings, bingo, music and dancing. Agnes leaves to cherish her fond memories to her brother Augustus “Gussie” Herbert; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Herbert; nieces, Shirley Hebb, Mary Bannister, Agnes Bannister, Pamela Herbert, Mary Margaret Herbert, Agnes Cecelia Herbert; nephews, Joseph Nelson, Francis Nelson, Raymond Herbert, Joseph Herbert, Michael Herbert, Patrick Herbert, Jerome Herbert, Lionel Herbert, Paul Herbert, Robert Herbert, McKinley Herbert and a host of other relatives and friends. Laura Cecilia Hayden Cusick of Avenue, Maryland passed away peacefully at Charlotte Hall Veteran’s Home on September 3, 2018. Born on August 25, 1936 in Abell, Maryland, Laura was the daughter of the late James Elton Hayden, Sr. and Daisy Harden Hayden. She grew up in St. Mary’s County, graduated from Margaret Brent High School, moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, and was employed by Drug Fair and Peoples Drug Store. Retiring in 1988, she moved back to the “country” and her beloved St. Mary’s County. On May 6, 1961, Laura married the late Walter (Buddy) Cusick at Holy Angels Church in Avenue, Maryland. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Buddy’s passing in 2012. Laura was a devout Catholic for her entire life and very active in her Catholic faith. A parishioner at Holy Angels Parish, she was an “unofficial” church Sacristan, member of Our Lady of Fatima Sodality, and involved with various rosary events, Blessing of the Fleet, and church dinners. Dolores Keefer Farr, 86, of Chaptico, MD passed away on August 31, 2018 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. Dolores was born to the late Paul Arthur Keefer and Ethel Marie Mayhew on July 12, 1932 in Washington, DC. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she once taught Sunday School. In earlier years, Dolores was a member of the Sweet Adelines and an avid fisherman who used to tie her own flies and who once landed a 63-lb red drum while 7-months pregnant. She also enjoyed model building, art, bird watching, cooking and Turner Classic Movies. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a draftsman for the C & P Telephone Company. Dolores was married on November 28, 1960 and is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, McLeod Harvey Farr. John Francis “Johnny” Adams, 74, of Waldorf, MD passed away at home after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, August 31, 2018. John was born on July 13, 1944 to the late William Walter Adams and Zella “Libby” Hungerford Adams, in Washington, DC. John was a gearhead. From the time he was old enough to hold a wrench until weeks before his death, his passion was high performance at its best. He was a well-known Exxon Dealer in southern Maryland for many years. He enjoyed auto racing, motorcycles, playing pool, old movies and milkshakes. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers, Bob Adams and Bill Adams; and his sister, Betty Nordaas. Kimberly Jeane Bundrick, 48, of Great Mills, MD passed away at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital on Tuesday, August 29, 2018. Kimberly was born on November 19, 1969 to Marilyn Eulene Laubach and the late Eugene Carl Laubach in Erving, Texas. Kimberly was a substitute teacher for St Marys County Public Schools. She enjoyed collecting Disney, scrapbooking, jewelry crafting, and watching gameshow network. Kimberly is survived by her husband, Christopher Robin Bundrick of Great Mills, MD; Sons Christopher Allen Bundrick and James Tyler Bundrick of Great Mills, MD. Mother, Marilyn Eulene Laubach of Oklahoma City, OK, Sister, Christy Lodrigues of Orlando, FL, and her brother Joseph Laubach of Hattiesburg, MS. As well as nieces and nephews. Robert Louis “Bob” Brady, 80, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. He was born on December 4, 1937, in Washington, D.C., to the late Albert Norris Brady and Emma Louise Grimley Brady. Bob is a 1955 graduate of Suitland High School. He met his wife when he was just twelve-years-old, and they were playmates until after high school. On April 11, 1959, he married his beloved wife, Margaret Ann Kidwell Brady, at Washington Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Together, they celebrated over 59 wonderful years of marriage. He was employed by the Architect of the Capitol for over 30 dedicated years and was the manager of the plumbing and heating division. He retired in 1995 and then worked part-time for True Value/Ace Hardware in Leonardtown, MD, for many years. As a young man, he played guitar in a band with his brothers in Bladensburg. He was athletic and liked to roller skate, played baseball, and was an avid league bowler with his wife. Charles I. Farrell, Jr. “Charlie”, 77 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on September 3, 2018 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland Charlie was born to the late Charles I. Farrell, Sr. and Alice Pickeral Farrell in Baltimore, MD on June 15, 1941. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Alberta Mae Allison Farrell; his siblings, William Farrell, Hilda Woods and Shirley Beavers. Charlie is survived by his son, Allen Jenkins Sr. (Sheryl), of Mechanicsville, MD; sisters, Joyce Allison, Jeanette Allison (Jimmy), Ginny Bowen (Joe) and Joan Lynn, all of Colonial Beach, VA. Charlie also leaves behind his three grandchildren; A.J., Brandon, and Allison Jenkins. Charlie was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was a disabled veteran and worked at NSWC Indian Head as a foreman in the Nitro Plant for the U. S. Government. Later, he was a HVAC mechanic and driver for the Burch Oil Company. Daniel Walter Buckner, 77, of Hollywood, MD passed away on September 3, 2018, at the Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD. He was born on January 21, 1941 in Winchester, TN to the late Daniel Lafayette Buckner and June Matha Reynolds Buckner. Daniel earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland and later earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA. He and his wife, Amanda Jane Buckner, celebrated over 39 wonderful years of marriage. He was employed over 44 years with the Department of Defense as an Electrical Engineer until his retirement in January 2004. After retiring he continued to work for BAE for another five years. He was three months shy of working 50 years. He was an avid deer hunter. He enjoyed taking trips to West Virginia to hunt with his son, Greg. William Charles “Bill” Edick, Jr, 71, of Leonardtown, MD passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 2, 1947 in Rhinebeck, NY to the late William Charles Edick and Julia Marks. In 1966 Bill enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on December 23, 1969. Bill began his career with DynCorp in 1978 as an Aviation Maintenance Supervisor for over 35 dedicated years and Tyonek for another 8 years. On May 24, 1996 he married his beloved wife, Roxanne Marie Haakenson. Together they celebrated over 22 wonderful years of marriage. He was a world traveler, with one of his favorite trips being to Italy. He also enjoyed going to Las Vegas to gamble. He was a grill master and his specialty was steak. Stephen Leroy “Beanie” Bean, 80, of Leonardtown, MD passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD. He was born on January 22, 1938 in Leonardtown, MD to the late Thomas Leroy Bean and Mary Lillian Goddard. Beanie is a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country until his Honorable Discharge. After his discharge he was in the United States Army Reserves. On September 2, 1963, Beanie married his beloved wife Jean Audrey “Jeanie” Farrell in Bushwood, MD. Together they celebrated over 55 wonderful years of marriage. He was employed for 30 years as an electrician for the Department of Defense at Patuxent River Naval Air Station until his retirement in 1993. His hobbies included spending time on the water fishing and crabbing.
