Joan Ann Gough Greer, 74, of Leonardtown, MD died peacefully on September 8, 2018 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 25, 1943 in Leonardtown, MD to the late Merrill Ignatius Gough and Nellie Virginia Thompson Gough. Joan was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD. Growing up as an only child, she worked hard with her parents to clear the land on which she currently lived. She graduated from Immaculata High School in Washington, D.C. On September 8, 1962, Joan married her beloved husband, James Theodore “Ted” Greer at Our Lady’s Church in Leonardtown, MD. Together they celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage. Joan was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She loved the water and anything to do with it, such as crabbing, fishing and waterskiing. She had a green thumb and grew bountiful vegetable gardens which she enjoyed canning and freezing her harvest. She was very social and loved hosting family dinners, picnics and holidays. Chantal Marie Petett, 47, of Leonardtown, MD died peacefully on September 8, 2018 at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Harwood, MD surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 8, 1970 in New York, N.Y. to Kenny Sajous of Greenville, S.C. and the late Denise DeGraff Sajous. Chantal is a graduate of SUNY-Plattsburgh, NY where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She held numerous Nursing and Nurse Management Positions over her 26 years as a loving, caring and dedicated Registered Nurse, with the last 12 years of employment with Conifer Health Solutions. On September 3, 1994, she married her beloved husband Anthony B. Petett of Augusta, Georgia in New York, NY. Together they spent 24 wonderful years together. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She had many great qualities including her compassion for others, her great sense of humor, and her strong faith. Joseph Leroy Lacey, Sr., 60, of Abell, MD passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 4, 1958 in Leonardtown, MD to the late Joseph Robert Lacey and Mary Ozella Thompson Lacey. On July 16, 1977 Joseph married his beloved wife, Laura Lacey in Compton, MD. Together they celebrated over 41 wonderful years of marriage. He was employed for over 18 years by St. Elizabeth Hospital before transferring to the Architect of the Capital, Supreme Court Building, as a talented painter and decorator for the past twelve years. He was very skilled and could fix almost anything. He had an elaborate collection of tools which he spray painted green for easy identification. He was an avid and skilled hunter; hunting deer, rabbits, geese, and duck, which was his favorite. He enjoyed hunting with his son and son-in-law. Richard J. Weems, Sr. “Dickie”, 86, of Shadyside, Maryland passed away on September 8, 2018 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Dickie was born to the late Fernando Wilson Weems and Mamie Lena (Jenkins) Weems in Shadyside, Maryland on January 14, 1932. He was born at home on Red Top Farm, the Weems family homeplace. In addition to his parents, Dickie was preceded in death by his son Richard J. Weems, Jr., and his siblings Angelyn Weems Parks, Wilson Dale Weems, Sr., and Marianne Weems Baldree. Dickie is survived by his beloved daughters whom he cherished, Cindy Weems Hill of Millsboro, Delaware, and Carol Weems Bell of Annapolis, Maryland, and his devoted daughter-in-law Jenny Klein Weems. He is also survived by his three younger siblings, Martha Weems Sawyer, Fernando Ray Weems, and Nancy Weems Carpenter. Kenneth James Hubley, 67 of California, MD passed away on September 2, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 8, 1951 in Boston, MA to the late Stephen James “Jim” Hubley and Helen Marie Devery Hubley. Ken is a graduate of Parks College (Now called: University of St. Louis) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was a member of ALPHA ETA RHO fraternity. On August 17, 1974 he married his beloved wife, Jennifer Nora Mitchell in Framingham, MA. Together they celebrated over 44 wonderful years of marriage. He was employed by the Department of Defense as a dedicated Aeronautical Engineer until his retirement on March 31, 2012. He was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts for many years and was dedicated to helping young men become successful in boy scouts. His hobbies including gardening, spending time on his boat and fishing. Joseph F. “Joe” Weingarden, III, age 88 of Waldorf, Maryland (formerly of Lake Gaston, Virginia), died September 5, 2018 at the Charles County Hospice House. Joe, in his early years, served nine years with the Maryland National Guard and worked as a Steamfitter with the local union. For the last 30 years of his working life, he worked as a Steamfitter with the Department of Defense (United States Government). He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Waldorf, Maryland. He liked fishing, bowling, golfing, and farming his farm in Florida. He was known as a hard worker and instilled that in all of his children. He was the son of Joseph F. Weingarden, Jr. and Julia Ray Weingarden. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Joanne Etter Weingarden and his sisters, Jean Mayhew, Lois Fennell, and Carol Moran. Arlene Parker Hughes, 68, died, September 10, 2018 at MedStar Southern Maryland , surrounded by family and Good Samaritans. Born on February 1, 1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Thelma Brown Given and Anthony Parker Given. She was raised in Valencia, PA, were she was involved in 4H, Mars High School Sports and Bakerstown Presbyterian Church. She had a BS from the University of Pittsburgh in Public Relations and was a avid lifelong learner. Mrs. Hughes served in the U. S. Army until she was Honorably Discharged in 1973. In 1975, she meet Charles F.M. Hughes , where she was introduced to photography . She fell in love with her husband of 42 years and shared a passion for photography with him . On her birthday, February 1, 1975, she married Charles FM Hughes at the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, PA. She learned photography from her husband and helped establish the family business. Mildred Elizabeth “Millie” Womble, age 98 of White Plains, Maryland (formerly of Cameron, North Carolina), died September 9, 2018 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland. In her early years, Mildred worked at various positions in her hometown in North Carolina, including Librarian at Massey Hill High School. After her marriage to George Peterson at age 21, she moved to Washington, DC where she held a short-term clerical position with the United States Government. Ultimately, Millie retired in 1980 after 30 years of service as clerk/typist and receptionist at the International Union of Plasterers and Cement Masons, AFL-CIO, located in Washington, DC. Amazingly and all the while, Mildred was the loving and devoted mother to her three children, always keeping her dedication to her church as a primary focus for herself and her family. Over the years, Millie became an accomplished seamstress and poet, for which she received countless awards. Elva Theora “Little Bits” Williams, age 79 of Ft. Washington, Maryland (formerly of Cape May, New Jersey), died September 9, 2018 at Sagepoint Living Center in La Plata, Maryland. Elva was a Secretary with the Social Security Administration for 20 plus years in Chicago, Illinois. She was a Caricature Artist who loved clothes, shopping, and drawing fashion designs for models. She loved to read and dance. She also worked at Jersey Shore in the summers of the 2000’s. She had a good “Soprano” singing voice and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wildwood, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Carroll Burns Williams, Sr. and Jennie Maxine Henderson Williams. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Joseph D. Williams and her sister, Margaret E. Clark. She is survived by her brother, Carroll B. Williams, Jr. and her sister, Anita M. Ross. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services and Interment will be held in Kansas at a later date.

John Edgar “Bud” Humphrey, Jr., 96, of Dowell, MD, passed away on September 9, 2018 at his residence. Born January 31, 1922 in Cove Point, MD, he was the son of the late John Edgar Humphreys, Sr. and Catherine Elizabeth (Joy) Humphreys. Bud married Eunice Virginia (Dowell) Humphrey on January 11, 1941 in Baltimore, MD. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and owned and operated C&B Texaco Service Station in Lusby, MD. Bud was a Charter Member of the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. Bud is survived by his children, Linda Hill (Gerald) of Arthur, WV, Bonnie Zinn-Taylor (Kirk) of Lusby, MD, and Jay Humphrey (Rita) of Branford, CN; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; his sister, Dorothy Hiebler of Pasadena, MD; and his beloved companion Benji. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Virginia Humphrey on April 22, 2018; and siblings, Anna Windsor, Dembeigh Humphreys and Richard Humphreys. Charles Michael “Mike” Foley, Sr, 76, of Saint Leonard passed away at home on September 8, 2018. Mike was born in Washington, DC on February 12, 1942 to the late Harry A and Frances Foley. He was a union carpenter last working building Giant Food Stores. Mike was an avid Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan and he loved to fish. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Shirley and son, Michael, Jr. He is also survived by his sister, Marie St John of Chesapeake Beach, brother Joseph “Peanut” Pier of New York, sisters-in-law Denise Wehland (Norman) of New Windsor, Mary Lou Payne (Gus) of Kentucky, and Jean Bowen of Florida and also survived by many nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces. Along with his parents, Mike was preceded in death by two sons, Kelly Brian and Richard Todd. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 15, 2018 with a memorial service following at 11:00 am.

Edward L. Swann, 72, of Newburg, MD passed away at home on September 12, 2018. Born January 26, 1946 to the late Wilson E. Swann and Dorothy A. Wise, Edward Lee was a carpenter and waterman whose hobbies included woodworking, gardening and boating. He loved his dogs and cats, and his morning cup of coffee. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, and a sailor who proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Robert A. Swann. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth C. Swann; sisters, Sharon Macaranas (Glen), Diane Hardesty (Robert), Sandra Ferguson (Francis) and Theresa Simpson (Robert); as well as a brother, Richard Swann; an aunt, Polly Lowns; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Agnes Ann Crafton, 77, of Dameron, MD departed this earthly life on September 13, 2018. After a short stay at the Hospice House, Valley Lee, MD. Surrounded by her loving family & close friends. Agnes was born in Beachville, MD, to the late Albert E. and Nellie Ann Milburn Butler on July 28, 1941. She received her early education & graduated from Cardinal Gibbons School, in 1959. She then married Theodore William Crafton, Sr. Out of that marriage, 5 children were born, 1 daughter & 4 sons. Agnes was highly regarded as someone who was fun and loving, & a nurturing mother, she loved her family, church family, and most of all The Lord Jesus Christ. She attended daily mass, some days twice, until her health began to fail! She was a big “Redskins” fan, often she would be in her burgundy & gold attire, dressed from head to toe! Walter Lee Mathis, Jr. born on September 24, 1943, in Griffin, Georgia and passed away peacefully at his home in Valley Lee, Maryland on Thursday, September 13, 2018, after a long illness. He was the son of Walter Lee Mathis, Sr. and Mary Buggs Mathis. Walter attended public schools in Griffin, Georgia. In 1962, he joined the United States Navy and worked as an aviation electrician while completing rate service training workshops, correspondence courses, and mechanical and technical qualifications training. While on active duty he served with VS-28 Quonset Point, RI and Weapons System Test Division, Pax River NAS, MD. In March 1971, Walter affiliated with the Naval Reserve’s Training and Administration of Reserves (TAR) program and served with VP-68 at Pax. River NAS, VP-64 Willow Grove, Penn., and attended A&C school in Memphis, Tenn. He completed his tour of duty at AIMD, Pax River, retiring as a Petty Officer First Class. Larry Herbert Russell, Sr., 74, of California, Maryland, transitioned from earth to his heavenly reward on September 12, 2018 at his home. Larry was born on June 10, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia to Alberta (Perry) and Richard Russell. He was a native of Virginia who lived in St. Mary’s County, Maryland since 1988. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Norfolk State University. Larry was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as an aircraft jet engine mechanic. Larry married the love of his life, Mary Larine (Vaughan) Russell on June 23, 1964. Ronald Stalnaker, 67, of Hughesville, MD passed away on September 13, 2018, at UMMC, Baltimore, MD. He was born on September 16, 1950 in Elkins, WV to the late Chester Stalnaker and Josephine Robinson Stalnaker. Ron graduated from Pomonkey High School in 1969. He completed the GSA Elevator Training program and was employed by the United States Department of State for 37 years. Ron retired in 2008 as the Branch Chief of Vertical Transportation. After retiring from the State Department he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, taking care of his home, and assisting his wife with her business. He met the love of his life, Myra, in 1973, and married her in 1974. In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his daughter Kimberly Echino (Joseph) and son Lee Stalnaker. Ron was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Taylor Stalnaker, Mason Echino, Rian Stalnaker, Dominic Echino, and Sean Stalnaker. He was known to his grandchildren as “Pop”. His family was his greatest love and he enjoyed spending time with them.
