William “Billy” Daniel Shumaker, II, 59 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on September 13, 2018 at Calvert Health Medical Center in Prince Frederick, MD. Billy was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Camp Springs, MD, later moving to Southern Maryland as an adult. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy where he was an Aviation Ordnance man aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga. After the Navy, he became an Elevator Mechanic with IUEC Local 10 until his retirement. Billy enjoyed hot rods and car shows, turkey shoots, the Redskins and Nationals, watching college football, playing golf and watching westerns. He coached St. Mary’s Pigskin Football for many years, leading several of his teams to championship seasons. Billy was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Brooke Purll and Rosemarie Clements Purll. James Richard “Jimmy” Hunt III, 50, of Lexington Park, MD passed away on Thursday September 13, 2018 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 3, 1968 in Cheverly, MD to Joy Faye Tilton of Solomons, MD. Jimmy is a 1986 graduate of Northern High School. He attended the Community College of Southern Maryland and earned his Journeyman’s Degree in 1990. He met his wife to be when he was just 18 years old. On July 8, 1996, he married the love of his life, Jodie Lynn Reeder in Hollywood MD. Together they celebrated over 22 wonderful years of marriage. He owned and operated J. Hunt Construction for over 20 years. He enjoyed taking vacations with his wife to the Eastern Shore, especially St Michaels and Ocean City. He liked to spend time on the boat crabbing and fishing with his father. He was a grill master and served many delicious steaks and racks of ribs. Robert Louis Cusic, Sr. (Bobby), 77, of Mechanicsville, Maryland passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family. Bobby was born on February 23, 1941 at St. Mary’s Hospital to Joseph Elwood Cusic, Sr. and Elvie Ann Wood Cusic. He was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, Maryland and was raised in Scrabbletown. Bobby was the typical mischievous boy and he often reminisced about the antics that he got into with his siblings. Bobby’s work career started at a young age. His first job was working along his father at Patuxent View Farm. Bobby was also a distributor for Mrs. Irie’s/Mann’s Potato Chips. He worked in the parts department for his brother, Billy, at Cusic’s Mechanic Service and was the owner of Bobby’s Auto Repair. Bobby was planning to retire as a salesman for Central Diesel in the upcoming year. Bobby was a member of 4-H and FFA. He graduated from Margaret Brent High School in 1960. Robert Maurice “Moe” Stone, 61, of Park Hall, MD passed away on September 10, 2018, in Georgetown, DC. He was born on May 7, 1957 in Leonardtown, MD, and was the son of the late Catherine Ann Ford Stone, and Robert Louis Stone. Moe is survived by his siblings; Kelly Sonntag of Avenue, MD, Sandy Schlosser of California, MD, and Roberta Sola of St. Mary’s City, MD. He was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident and graduated from Great Mills High School in 1975. Moe was a Hazmat Coordinator for HazTrain for 23 years. Moe began work as a young teenager at his Grandfather’s business, E.L. Stone and Son, a Southern States franchise in Park Hall. He was also helping to take care of the family farm and his love for tractors, farming and big trucks was born! After graduation Moe went to work for Griffin Carpet as a floor installer and spent many years there perfecting the trade! James “Jim” Rupert Grow, “JR”, 67 of Lexington Park, MD formerly of Swan Point, MD passed away on September 11, 2018 at his home. Born on September 12, 1950 in Joplin, Missouri he was the loving son of the late Ethel Gertrude Smith Grow and William Samuel Grow. Jim is survived by his children; Sarah Grow Butler (Joseph) of Lexington Park, MD, Samuel Grow of Franklin, TN, Angela Grow of Lusby, MD and Vickie Grow (ex-wife) of Swan Point, MD. 3 Grandchildren; Emmry Harlow Grow, Madyson Grace Butler and Mason Lewis Harold Butler. Siblings; Ginger Post of FL, William (Bill) Grow of Welcome, MD and Cynthia Grow of SC. He is preceded in death by his sister Nancy Drury. Jim moved from Baxter Springs, KS to Charles County MD in 1968. He was employed as a Safety Director and Job Trainer for Southern Maryland Electric in Hughesville, MD for 32 years retiring in 2008. Jim enjoyed Crown Royal, John Wayne Movies, Elvis Presley, home cooked meals, a clean house and heavily starched jeans. His favorite Bible passages/verses are Psalm 91 and Isaiah 53:5. Milton “Mac” Elwood McNey, 86 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on September 14, 2018 in Bushwood, MD. Born December 13, 1931 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Margaret Lurch McNey and George McNey. Mac was the loving husband of Theresa McNey whom he married on March 17, 1991 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his children: Milton McNey of Myrtle Beach, SC, Cindy Voorhees of Myrtle Beach, SC, John McNey of Faulkner, MD, Marc Taylor of Waldorf, MD, Katherine (Kitty) Mausen of LaPlata, MD and Christy Stephenson of Key West, FL, also survived by numerous grand and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mac was preceded in death by his children: Tommy McNey, and Terri Edwards and one brother Irving McNey. Mac moved to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1977 coming from Charles County, he retired from the Federal Government as an Electrician in 1992. Dagmar Maxwell, 74, of Hughesville, MD passed away at Fenwick Landing Assisted Living, in Waldorf, MD on Monday, September 17, 2018. Dagmar was born on September 29, 1943 to the late Alfred Hillenbrandt and Helga Emma Marie Petersen, in Berlin, Germany. After her father was killed in WWII, she was raised by her mother and her adoptive father, the late Melvin Giordano. Dagmar was an administrative assistant for the U.S. Census Bureau, until she retired to Florida in 1997. She enjoyed knitting, crafts and crossword puzzles, and was once a member of the Red Hat Society. In addition to her parents, Dagmar was predeceased by her husband, Prentice C. Maxwell, in March of 2017. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Hartung and husband Craig, of Hughesville, MD; her son, Sean Maxwell and wife Lisa, of Bowie, MD; and five grandchildren, Jordan Hartung, Ryan Maxwell, Kyle Maxwell, Alex Maxwell, and Josh Maxwell. John Donald Burroughs, Sr. “Donald”, 97 of California, MD passed away on September 12, 2018 at home in California, MD. John was born o the late William and Mabel Burroughs in Mechanicsville on April 6, 1921. Donald was a member of the American Legion Post 238 and Rotary Club of Charles County. John served in World War II and reached the rank of 2nd Leiutant. Donald was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge, receiving the Purple Heart. He enjoyed golf. John worked as a CPA prior to his retirement. In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie “Bootsie” Burroughs; his brother, Winston Burroughs and sister, Margaret Chenault. He is survived by his sons, John D. John Francis Bozzi, Sr., 75, of Hughesville, MD passed away at Calvert Health Medical Center, in Prince Frederick, MD on Sunday, September 9, 2018. John was born on January 13, 1943 to the late Francis Guy Bozzi and Viola Mae (Wright) Bozzi, in Washington, DC. John was a carpenter for the U.S. Government, and retired after 25 years of service. He enjoyed antique cars, and was a member of the Southern Maryland Model “A” Club, and the Southern Knights Rod & Custom Car Club. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sisters, Delorse Anthony, Anita Dugan, and Linda Davis; and his grandson, John Francis Bozzi, III. James Michael “Mike” Colleary, 60, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at his home in Bradenton, FL. Born in Coronado, CA in 1958, he was the middle son of the late John E. Colleary, Jr. and Shirley Evans Colleary, formerly of Valley Lee, MD and of Brandenton, FL. Mike grew up in a Navy family. His father was transferred to Patuxent River Naval Air Station in 1959. After two additional duty stations in Washington, DC, and Virginia Beach, VA, the family returned to Pax River in 1967 and settled on a farm in Valley Lee in 1972. Mike graduated from Little Flower School, Ryken High School class of 1976, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lynchburg College in 1981. Mike worked at the family business, Colonial Office Supplies, in Leonardtown and then Lexington Park, for many years and then opened his own business, Documenters, in Lexington Park. Following his wife Marie’s death in 2007, Mike moved to Bradenton, FL, to be closer to his parents who had retired there. Louie Phillip Deane, 53, of North Beach passed away September 18, 2018. He was born November 18, 1964 in Prince Frederick to Elmer Davis and Kitty Marie (O’Dell) Deane. Louie was raised in Chesapeake Beach and attended Beach Elementary and Northern High School, graduating in 1982. He was employed with Giant Food as a warehouse worker and forklift operator. Following his retirement from Giant, Louie followed his lifelong passion and became a Charter Boat Captain, operating Ms. Candi and Pipedream I and II. He was married to Brenda Nicholson and later married Darla Nelson on November 14, 2016. He lived in Calvert County and Virginia, and had resided in North Beach for the past two years. Louie was a member and past president of the Charter Boat Captains Association. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, cookouts, and spending time with family, especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Louie is survived by his wife Darla C. James W. Ivy III, 59, of Waldorf MD, passed away on Monday September 17 2018. Jimmy was born on March 26, 1959. He graduated from Gwynn Park High School in 1977 & was employed by McDonald & Eudy Printers for 34 years as a Printing Specialist. He was a wonderful man, loving father & grandfather, & friend to many. Jimmy is survived by his daughter Brandy, son in law Nicholas, and grandson Mac. He is preceded in death by his parents Margaret & James W. Ivy Jr, & brothers Christoper, Darryl, & Raymond. Doris L. Bussard of Owings, MD, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at the age of 87. She was born on November 22, 1930 in Washington, DC to Irene [Warner] and James F. Chrismore. Doris was a graduate of Eastern High School – Class of 1949. On May 18, 1951, Doris married the love of her life, Ray D. Bussard. In May, 2018, they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Doris worked as a library aide for Prince George’s School System for 26 years, retiring in 1990. In her leisure time, she enjoyed shopping for antiques, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family. She was the beloved wife of Ray “Buzz” D. William “Bill” Bernard Hume of Prince Frederick, MD, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at the age of 89. Bill was born on October 17, 1928, in Amesbury, MA to Bridget [Baker] and George Hume. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, retiring on October 3, 1969, after serving for 25 years. On March 17, 1951, Bill married the love of his life, Dorothy Josephine Pratt. After his retirement from the Navy, Bill worked as a contractor for GTE Sylvania for 18 years, retiring from there in November, 1987. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 238 in Hughesville, MD and an avid supporter of the Washington Redskins. Bill’s first love was his family, second came his country and the third was his boat – the “Silly Goose”. He enjoyed shooting pool, eating crabs, drinking beer, gardening, roller skating, ice skating and bowling. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. Richard Joseph “Dick” Clemens, 85, of Friendship passed away September 18, 2018 at Calvert Health Medical Center. He was born November 8, 1932 in Washington, D.C., to Ernest August and Florence (Tracey) Clemens. Dick was raised in D.C. and attended St. Gabriel Catholic School. He joined the United States Navy September 19, 1950 and was honorably discharged August 26, 1953. Dick married Patricia Lahouchuc May 26, 1956 and they lived in Lanham and Mitchellville before settling in Friendship in 1988. He was employed with Pepco as a foreman, retiring in 1988. Dick was a member of the American Legion Post 206 in Chesapeake Beach, the VFW and the Elks Lodge in Deale. He enjoyed crabbing, antique cars, and watching Notre Dame and Navy college football. Dick is survived by his wife Patricia Clemens of Friendship, children Ernest Clemens of Tracy’s Landing, Deborah Clemens of Brandywine and Jerome Clemens and wife Kristina of Summerville, SC, grandchildren James Hardesty II, Michelle Hardesty, Jerome Clemens, Jr., and Travis Clemens, and great-grandson Samuel Clemens. He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Clemens and sisters Rita Holland and Hellen McCarron.
