Lydia Delores Monte, of La Plata, MD passed away on October 5, 2018 at BridgePoint National Harbor, at 80 years of age. Lydia was born on April 9, 1938, in Washington, DC to the late Domnic and Ann Appuglies. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children William Dabney Carr and her second husband John Monte; son, Jimmy Carr; Brother, Tony Appuglies and sister, MaryAnn Knowles. Lydia is survived by her children; Cindy Reed (Mark), Gary Carr (Tammy) and Lorie Berkut (Wayne), nine grandchildren; brother, Sammy Appuglies and sister, Gloria Savage. Lydia was a proud bus driver for Prince George’s County Public Schools from which she retired in 2000. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and dancing to the oldies but goodies, but mostly being with family and friends. Friends will be received on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, from 5:00–8:00PM at Raymond Funeral Serivce, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Doors will open at 10AM, services to begin promptly at 11AM on Thursday, October 11. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD 20735.

Barbara Ellen Burch, age 81, of La Plata, MD died October 5, 2018 at Genesis La Plata Center. Barbara was a Homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed fishing, crabbing, cooking, playing cards and taking care of her garden. Her favorite times were cookouts and family gatherings at her Wicomico River home. She was daughter of the late Samuel Pickeral and the late Annie Irene Pickeral. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Theodore Burch, Sr.; two sons, Sammy Burch and Johnny Burch, Jr.; five brothers, Leroy, Leo, Eugene, Joseph and Purcell Pickeral; and two sisters, Hester Taylor and Alma Shaffer. She is survived by her twin sister, Betty Ann Burch; and one granddaughter, Selena Faith Burch. Friends received on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 5:00pm-8:00pm, with Funeral Service at 7:00pm at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment will be private. Jeffrey Alan Radtke, 50

Jeffrey Alan Radtke, 50, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed into eternal life on October 5th, 2018 after a brave fifteen year standoff against kidney cancer. Born on July 11th, 1968, he was the son of the late Isabell (Williams) Radtke and the late John Radtke. Jeff spent most of his life in Charles County, graduating from La Plata High School in 1986. He served his country proudly in the Navy from 1986-1990 as a Radioman. He was employed as a Service Technician for Washington Gas. He was a member and steward of the Teamsters Union Local No. 96 Jeff loved sports and played football for the St. Charles Bears as a youth and for the La Plata Warriors in High School. He played softball in the SMAFL and two of his teams won championships in the 2000 and 2003 seasons. He was an ASA Umpire for five years, officiating games and tournaments. He enjoyed playing cards, particularly poker. He loved a ride on his Harley. Jeff cared about his community and gladly gave his time and talents to many organizations. Thelma Cecil Fuller, 96 of Chaptico, MD passed away on October 8, 2018 at her residence in Chaptico, MD. Thelma was born on April 14, 1922 to the late Garland McClure and the late Etna Maney McClure in Young Harris, GA. Thelma served on the Altar Guild at Christ Church for a number of years. She always helped out at the Church Festivals. She loved to work out in her flower beds, crochet, cooking, especially yeast rolls and stuffed ham. Thelma worked in the Margret Brent School cafeteria prior to her retirement. In addition to her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her loving husband, (Please list), who died in July of 1963; her children, Wayne Lee Fuller, Frances Y. Gass, Jonathan L. Fuller “Lee”; Bonnie Lou Woodrum and Carl Fuller, Jr. “Buddy”; her siblings, Eugene McClure, Blanch Elrod, Mary Jo Pope and Fannie Bell Dills. Robert G. Borrell, Sr., 80, of Clinton, MD passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018. He was born on March 6th, 1938 to Thelma and Edward Borrell in Washington DC. He spent 30 years working for Riggs Bank and another 25 years collecting and selling antiques with his wife Betty and their business, Betty and Bob Antiques. He was an avid collector of military paraphernalia, especially artifacts from the Civil War and World War II. In recent years, he spent a lot of his spare time volunteering at the Maryland Veterans Memorial Museum in Newburg, MD, as well as serving on their board of directors. His other collections were quite eclectic, running from Black Widow Planes to antique toys, some of which his surviving grandchildren were allowed to play with, some too fragile for careless fingers. At his home, you could always find old westerns and military dramas on the television. In addition to television, he loved watching the birds and deer from his porch. He also enjoyed taking pictures of his favorite subjects, including his family and planes. Joseph Douglas “Joey” Miller Jr., 54, of Hollywood, MD passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on December 13, 1963 at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, MD. He is the son of Mary Frances “Fran” (Sharrow) Schmalgemeyer of Hollywood, MD and late step-father, Sherman Schmalgemeyer and Joseph Douglas Miller Cabazola and step-mother, Sharon Cabazola of Latrobe, PA. Joey is a graduate of Leonardtown High School. He was employed by Bill Cannons Awesome Engines in Delaware, where he built race car engines, before returning home to Maryland. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers. When he was 14 years old he received his first guitar from his step-father. He practiced all the time and would fall asleep at night with it across his chest. He learned quickly and soon was playing gigs with local bands until he moved to Delaware. He also used to say, “I wrote the book on useless knowledge,” whenever he would tell people simple unknown facts on things. William Stanley Cusick, 79 of Waldorf, MD passed away on October 9, 2018 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. William was the son of the late Harry M. Cusick and the late Mary E. Rutter Cusick. William was born in Hughesville, MD on February 1, 1939. He worked for the Bell Atlantic Company for 31 years. He enjoyed woodworking and working on cars. In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his son, Daniel M. Cusick; his sister, Mary E. Oliver and brother, Francis M. Cusick. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen F. McCartney Cusick for over 58 years; his daughter, Vicki L. Hendrix (Carl) of Waldorf, MD; brother, Charles M. Cusick of Reno, NV; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Family will receive friends for William’s Life Celebration Memorial Gathering on Sunday, October 14th from 1pm to 3pm with a Memorial Service at 3pm officiated by Rev. Gary Edward Williams, age 57 of Bowie, MD, formerly of Hughesville, MD died October 6, 2018. Gary was born May 8, 1961 in Washington, DC. He was the son of Eleanor Williams and the late James W. Williams of Hughesville, MD. He is also survived by his brother, James W. Williams, Jr. of Abell, MD and his wife Christine. He leaves behind many other relatives and friends. After graduation from Thomas Stone High School in 1979, Gary was disabled after being struck by an automobile. In his remaining years he participated in numerous work related programs. Gary enjoyed spending time with his mother eating out on Sundays, visiting the park, playing cards, golfing, solving algebra problems and spending time with his mother at her home on holidays. Gary also enjoyed visiting with family members and friends. James Bruce Thomas, Jr. “Junior”, 83, of Bushwood, MD passed away at his home on October 5, 2018. He was born on July 5, 1935 in Avenue, Maryland and the son of the late Mary Ethel Ellis Thomas and James Bruce Thomas, Sr. Junior was the loving husband of Nola Mae Bennett Thomas whom he married on December 27, 1977 in Upper Marlboro, MD. Junior is survived by his children James Bruce Thomas, III. of Bushwood, MD, Margaret “Peggy Stauffer of Colton’s Point, MD, and 1 grandchild. As well as siblings Robert “Bob” Thomas, and Dale Thomas. He was preceded in death by his son William Thomas and his sister Jean “Jeanie” Thomas. He was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident and graduated of Margaret Brent High School. Junior worked at the United States Navy Yard Washington, DC and PAE System as a Steam Engineer, retiring in July, 2005. Born on October 27, 1932 in Oakley, MD he was the son of the late Nellie Eleanor Farrell Quade and Joseph Ashby Quade. Al was the loving husband of the late Mary Ann Quade who preceded him in death on September 13, 2010. Al is survived by his children; Donald Quade (Elaine) of Mechanicsville, MD, Dale Quade (Mary Jo) of Hughesville, MD and Dean (Stacey) of Summerville, SC. 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Siblings; Lawrence Quade of Hughesville, MD, Bobby Quade and Sonny Quade both of Calvert County, MD. He is preceded in death by his daughter Linda Quade and his siblings; Jimmy Quade, Alberta Farrell, Mary Helen Morgan, Theresa Gardiner, Nora Quade and Margaret Morgan. Firefighter McCullough passed away on October 9, 2018, after his heroic battle against occupational cancer. Firefighter McCullough will be honored with a line-of-duty funeral, to be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 (details below): Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 13th, 09:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, at 600 Watkins Park Drive, in Upper Marlboro, MD 20774.
