David Alexander Clarke, Sr. 59 of Lexington Park, MD passed away August 15, 2014 at Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD. Born June 29, 1955 in Leonardtown, MD he was the son of the late George Willard Clarke, Jr. and Catherine Coombs Clarke. David was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. On July 8, 1972, he married his beloved wife, Carolyn Sue Goode. Together they celebrated 42 wonderful years of marriage. He was a lifelong waterman; and especially enjoyed eating hard and soft crabs. He enjoyed spending time outdoors; including hiking through the woods, crabbing, fishing, walking on the beach, and hunting. He also enjoyed watching western movies, particularly John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He was an avid Washington Redskin fan. David was a beautiful dancer, and loved country music. However, his greatest love was for his family. He loved to spend his time with his wife, children and grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye. Genevieve Julia Post, 87 of Leonardtown, MD passed away August 15, 2014 at Solomons Nursing Center in Solomons, MD. Born August 21, 1926 in Waterbury, CT she was the daughter of the late Frank Penevich and Julia Burba Penevich. Genevieve celebrated over 50 wonderful years of marriage to her late husband, Alfred John Post, before his passing in August 2000. She was devoted to her husband and loved to care for him and her family. She was a delicious baker, best known for her nutmeg cookie logs. She enjoyed collecting cook books and helping her husband make wooden animals. She was an avid reader, with her favorite book being Gone with the Wind. She enjoyed travelling to Florida with her husband every November. She was devoted to her church, Immaculate Heart of Mary and to St. Jude. She taught Sunday school, was a Pre-K aide, and worked many Lenten Suppers. She also volunteered at Little Flower School. John Frederick “Tex” Turner, 68 of Lexington Park, MD, formally of San Antonio, Texas passed away at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD on August 14, 2014. Born November 20, 1945 in San Antonio, TX, he was the son of the late John D. and Dorothy Rawlins Turner. Tex served a tour in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was the owner and operator of Tex Air, air conditioning and refrigeration company. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, wood working and spending time with his pets. Tex is survived by his two sisters, Linda Adams and Donna Knight and their children; his companion, Kelli Cassidy and her family; his step children, Eddie Hefner, Linda Sue Hefner, Nancy Ann Balta, and Bobbi Jo MaGee and their families. Helena Mae Fenwick was born to the late Edna P. (Bennett) and Simon Corbin on October 16, 1924 in Ridge, MD. She peacefully departed this life at Genesis Health Care — La Plata Center in La Plata, MD on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. A loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend to many – she could always make you feel special and cherished. Helena was a life-time resident of St. Mary’s County, although she spent time living in Florida, California, Tennessee, and Washington state. She was preceded in death on November 23, 2013 by her loving husband Russell Fenwick. Helena had a personal relationship with the Lord which began when she was a young girl. She graduated from Cardinal Gibbons Institute in Ridge, Maryland under the guidance of the Oblate Sisters of Providence and worshipped at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church throughout her life. He was born on May 10, 1933 in Prince George’s County, MD to the late George F. Wilkinson and the late Mary Helen (Tippett) Wilkinson. Lee loved playing bingo, going hunting, and anything else involving the outdoors. He also loved listening to his dogs run and was full of life. Lee retired from Goad Lumber Company. Beverly Blend, 83 of Manning, SC passed away peacefully at her residence on August 16, 2014. She was born on November 25, 1930 in Clearfield, PA to the late Frank Edgar and Elizabeth Annetta Armes. In 1948, Beverly married the love of her life Clifford C. Blend. As a Marine wife, she moved throughout the United States as she lovingly raised her children. She loved studying the Bible, teaching Sunday school, singing, cooking, baking, sewing and was an active member of Whitehall Baptist Church. Beverly retired, after 25 years, from the Prince George’s County Court System in 2005. Beverly is preceded in death by her late sons Clifford “Craig” Blend, Jr. and Wilbert “Bud” Blend. She is survived by her husband, Clifford Craig Blend, her daughters, Sharon L. Payne and Janice E. Thomas, and her son, David K. Blend. Elizabeth Ann Dern, 80 of Prince Frederick, MD, passed away on August 20, 2014 in Broomes Island, MD. She was born on January 9, 1934 in Gastonia, NC to the late Elizabeth Q. and Arvel August Phifer. In her younger years, Elizabeth worked for P.G. County, as the Director of Day Camp. She liked to quilt, paint ceramics and bird houses which her husband used to build. She liked to work in her gardens of beautiful flowers. Elizabeth also loved to talk about and critic food and cooking. Dr. Valentine “Val” Ojo of Tall Timbers, MD passed away August 23, 2014, after a protracted illness; surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 14, 1948 in Ondo, Nigeria, Val was the eldest child of the late Chief Jerome Ojo (Baba D2) and Rose Eunice Ojo. He obtained his early childhood education at St. Mathew’s (RCM) Primary School and St. Joseph’s College (Secondary School), both in Ondo town. Valentine married his beloved wife, Agathachristy Ngozi, in August 1989. An avid reader and prolific writer, Val was a linguist who was very fluent in several languages. He started his undergraduate studies at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and continued to the then Soviet Union where he obtained his first and second degrees. He earned another Master’s degree and the doctorate at the University of Tubingen, Germany (1978). Before relocating to, and settling in the United States with his family, Dr. Ojo was a professor of German and Italian at the University of Ife (Obafemi Awolowo University), Nigeria; and traveled extensively throughout Europe. John F. Stone, Sr., 67 of Leonardtown, MD passed away August 25, 2014 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Born on April 27, 1947 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph V. Stone and Mary Mildred Johnson. John proudly served in the United States Army from July 1966 to his honorable discharge in June 1968. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. John married his beloved wife, Laura Ann Hall Stone on June 17, 1967 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Compton, MD. Together, they celebrated 36 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2003.
