Kenneth Stephen Brown, 85 passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at his daughter’s home in California, MD, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 15, 1929, in Chicago, IL, he is the son of the late Andrew Wilson Brown and Roberta Stephen Brown. Kenneth earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago and then his medical degree from the University of Chicago Medical School in 1960. In December 1955, he married his beloved wife, Eva Brown in Chicago, IL. Together they celebrated over 59 wonderful years of marriage. He spent a 30 year career in genetics research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, focusing on human developmental biology and malformations. Much of his work was published and he received numerous awards and accolades for his efforts. He also taught graduate courses at NIH and at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda). He retired as a Captain in the U.S. Public Health Service. He was an avid sailor his whole life. Daniel J. Eiler, Sr., “Danny”, 67 of St. Leonard, MD passed away on February 15, 2015 in Washington, D.C. He was born on August 28, 1947, in Butler, PA to Gisile and the late John Eiler. Danny retired in 2013 from the J. W. Graner Co. where he worked running Heavy Equipment. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved to vacation in Florida. Danny is survived by his wife of 44 years Joyce A. Eiler, they were married on September 30, 1970. Father of Daniel J. Eiler, Jr., the late Eric Christopher Eiler, and Thomas A. Barrett. Grandfather of Christopher Eiler, Danielle Eiler, Kevin Barrett and Anastasia Barrett, he is also survived by his mother, Gisile Eiler, and his siblings, JoAnne Shay (Don), Dixie Eiler, Michael Eiler (Linda), Christine Eiler, Laurie Thompson (Tim), and Jeffrey Eiler (Sherry). The family will receive friends on Friday February 20, 2015 from 9-11 AM at the Rausch Funeral Home, 4405 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic, MD where services will be held at 11 AM. Carl Russell Steinhauser, Sr., 64 of Newburg, MD, died peacefully on February 16, 2015, at his home after an eight-year struggle with Multiple Myeloma cancer. He was born on March 12, 1950, in LaPlata, MD, to Otto “Tojo” Steinhauser and the late Madolyn I. (Cleary) Steinhauser. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Denise, sons, CJ and Jimmy, daughter-in-law, Angela, grandchildren, Carter and Callie and brother, Michael Wayne Steinhauser, Sr. A graduate from Pomonkey High School in 1968. He was a life-long member of Marbury Baptist Church and elected Deacon in 2009. Carl was a member of the 7th District Volunteer Fire Department where he was awarded Fireman of the Year by the Greater Waldorf Jaycees in 1972-1973. Carl proudly wore Badge 52 while employed as a police officer and Criminal Investigation Division Detective with the Charles County Sheriff’s Department. He was awarded Policeman of the Year by the J. F. Kennedy Council in 1974. Roberta Mae DeHart, 90 of Cobb Island, MD died on February 15, 2015 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. Roberta was born on January 20, 1925 in Colorado Springs, CO to the late Donald Barney and the late Mable Parker. Roberta is predeceased by her son, Ronald DeHart, sister, Betty Kilbury and brother, Donald Barney. She is survived by her husband, William DeHart and children, Jeanette Tull and Keith DeHart. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Roberta was a homemaker. She was a member of the Citizen’s Association of Cobb Island and the Dahlgren United Methodist Church. Roberta enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed by many. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Dahlgren United Methodist Church in 17080 14th St., King George, VA. Interment to be held at a later date. Joan Patricia Cochran, 72 of Hollywood, MD passed away February 17, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 12, 1942, in Dameron, MD, she is the daughter of the late Lloyd Thomas Carroll and Viola Augusta Ridgell. Joan is a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. On December 7, 1979, Joan married her beloved husband, Richard Clarence Cochran in Leonardtown, MD. Together they were married 31 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in September 2011. She was employed by St. Mary’s County Public Schools as a Food Service Specialist for over thirty years of dedicated service until her retirement in 2007. She was an avid collector of Longaberger and enjoyed making trips to the factory in Ohio. She was devoted to her husband and family. Her greatest advice to her children was to “live a good life.” She also loved her granddogs, Daisy Mae, Lucy, and Mox. Elsom Wade Glover, 53 of Great Mills, MD passed away February 10, 2015 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. Born on March 19, 1961, in Bainbridge, GA, he is the son of Jeanne Cowart Glover of Bainbridge, GA and the late Roy Kedric Glover. On February 28, 1985, Wade married his beloved wife, Caroline Glover. Together they celebrated 29 wonderful years of marriage. He proudly served the United States Navy for 24 years of dedicated service until his retirement as a Chief Petty Officer. He was currently employed by Global Technology and Management Resources, Inc. as a senior electronics technician. Wade’s family, friends and country were his greatest love. Lawrence Oliver “Boy” Hayden, 88 passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, MD. Born on May 4, 1926, in Dynard, MD, he is the son of the late George Lawrence Hayden and Agnes Jeanette Oliver. In 1944 Boy graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. On May 30, 1950, he married his beloved wife, Ruth Ann Nicholson in Leonardtown, MD. Together they celebrated over 64 wonderful years of marriage. He was a lifelong farmer of tobacco, corn and soybeans. He was also a timber spotter for over 20 years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau for 25 years until 1983. He was a member of the Maryland Chesapeake Bay Affairs Commission and the Potomac River Fisheries Commission. His greatest love was for his family and friends. Mary Elizabeth Keeler, 86 of Port Republic, MD passed away on February 19, 2015 in Prince Frederick, MD. She was born on April 14, 1928 in Sydney, NY to the late Irving and Beulah Fisher Keeler. Mary was an elementary and middle school teacher from 1963 through the late 1980’s, who last taught at General Smallwood Middle School in Indian Head, MD. She loved classical music and was a violinist with COSMIC. She was also an animal lover and advocate who volunteered for many years with the Humane Society of Calvert County. Recently, she was a co-founder of Southern Maryland Pray & Neuter Inc. and the SPOT Thrift Store in St. Leonard where she worked as a full-time volunteer for ten years. Mary is survived by her former husband and father of her children, William McCormack, mother of Fabienne Ament, Marla Londraville, Sarah Dolinar and Ellen McCormack. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicole and Alex Londraville, Johnny and Susannah Dolinar, and Evan and Choloe Ament. Services will be private. Charles William Grove, Jr., 80 of LaPlata, MD passed away on February 19, 2015 in Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. He was born on May 31, 1934 in Baltimore, MD to the late Elizabeth and Charles Wm. Grove, Sr. Bill served four years in the Navy where he was a photographer on an aircraft carrier, taking picture of the planes taking off and landing. After his years in the services, he went on to become an electrician, and worked in the construction field for 50 years before retiring. Bill Loved playing golf. He married the love of his life, Kathryn May, and they have spent 45 years together raising and loving their children, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife who is his whole world, Kathryn M. Grove, step father of Bonnie Krell (John), Paul Manner (Shirley), Richard Manner, and the late Melanie Dyke. Mary Rachael Keaton (Dickens), 50 was born on April 12, 1964 in Leonardtown Maryland to Virgil and Pearl Dickens and was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, February 16, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Rachael, as she was known by her family and friends, received her education in St. Mary’s County Public School and later moved to Virginia where she graduated. Rachael has such a caring heart for taking care of people that was in need, in which led her to working in the field of nursing until her untimely death. Rachael was the loving mother of two daughters, Tralana and Tameka Keaton; one grandson, Carlisle Keaton. Rachael loved spending time with her grandson “Carlisle” who truly meant the world to her. Ronald Jay Ely passed peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2015, at the age of 51. He succumbed to ALS following several years of heroic struggle. Born in Redding, California, February 28, 1963; he lived most of his life in Maryland. While attending Gwynn Park High School and Annapolis High School, from which he graduated in 1981, he began studying and testing his hand at all trades, finding his passion being electrical work. He then attended an electrical program at the Lincoln Technical Institute of Maryland. During a 27-year federal career as an electrician, Ronnie worked at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC; Indian Head Naval Support Facility, Indian Head, MD; and the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren, VA. Known for his attention to detail, meticulous wiring, and positive problem-solving attitude, Ronnie started as a junior electrician and continued to rise to senior high-voltage electrician; ultimately responsible for the Uninterrupted Power Supply facility at Dahlgren. During his career he garnered numerous awards for his ability to troubleshoot highly technical problems under critical conditions. Born on October 5, 1926 in Mechanicsville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Alton Joseph Herbert and the late Bessie Rebecca Buckler Herbert. Viola was a wonderful homemaker and loved to cook, sew, garden and take care of her family. SMSGT Richard Bruce Pleger, USAF (Ret.), 71 of Scotland, MD, passed away February 17, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous ten-year battle with cancer. Born June 12, 1943, in Witchita, KS, he is the son of the late Richard Edward Pleger and Mildred Faye Knott Pleger. On January 19, 1962, he married his beloved wife, Myra Jane Pleger. Together they celebrated 53 wonderful years of marriage. Richard was a Jack of all trades, and he especially enjoyed sailing and riding motorcycles. However, his greatest love was for his country and his beloved family. He was an accomplished Eagle Scout and a member of the American Motorcyclist Association. On July 7, 1962, Richard proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and dedicated over twenty-two years of service to his country until his retirement in 1984 as a Senior Master Sergeant. Allen, Sr. and the late Dorothy (Dehn) Bender. Sharon loved her daughter and grandchildren with all her heart and enjoyed spending time with them as well as her siblings, other family members and friends. Sharon loved to be near the water and playing with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crossword books, coloring and playing cards. Kimberley Ann “Kim” Rubala Cullins, 55 of Mechanicsville, MD has left behind a widely-known legacy of joy, love and laughter. She passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015, surrounded by family, her favorite jazz tunes, and the warm thoughts of her many friends. Born on February 27, 1959 in Denver, CO to the late Mike and Phyllis (Lomicka) Rubala, she was adopted by her loving aunt Marjorie and [late] uncle Frank Rubala and raised in Mechanicsville, MD. In her professional life, Kim was a dedicated employee and advocate of St. Mary’s County, serving as marketing specialist for the Museum Division of its Department of Recreation and Parks for the past 14 years. Her most treasured accomplishment was the creation of the Potomac Jazz & Seafood Festival, hosted annually at the St. Clements Island Museum and drawing thousands of supporters and world-class jazz acts since 2001. Many will also recall her planning and first-hand involvement in various museum fundraisers, including her celebrated recurring role as “Daphne DiMarco” in the annual Interactive Murder Mystery Dinner. LeRoy Joseph Lehman of Leonardtown, MD died on February 21, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 4, 1927 to Joseph and Charlotte Lehman in Brooklyn, NY. He served in the United States Army during World War II and graduated from the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT with a degree in Business Administration. Mr. Lehman joined his family’s business, Lehmans’ Lighting in NYC in 1950, a firm that specialized in hand-made custom-crafted lighting fixtures for the decorating trade. He was a master craftsman who enjoyed dollhouse-building and stamp collecting. After moving to St. Mary’s in 1991 he spent many years enjoying his membership in the Senior Vibes Choral Group. He is survived by his wife, Sally Lehman, whom he married in 1950 and two children, Elizabeth Cooper (Dr. David Cooper) and a son, William Lehman. He is also survived by 3 grandsons, Neal Cooper (Nicole), Dr. Todd Cooper (Vanessa), and Kyle Lehman and a granddaughter, Viki Lehman Young (Andrew).
